Thanks for the update.
That explains why my Elite visa has been in the process of "Immigration check" for two months now. My country is just so unsafe ????????????
I'm in arguably the "least safe" country of the USA and mine processed in about 10 days.

A good number of Thailand Elite members are in their 20s / 30s and not eligible for retirement visa for a long time yet. Neither are they interested in a marriage so the Thailand Elite Visa does fit a number of use cases. If you are over 50 and not planning on flying in and out all the time the retirement visa is indeed the way to go.
Im in this group and the TE visa is a perfect fit for me for several reasons.
I've been approved for several months now but I'm not going to fork over the cash until I'm confident that I can actually enter into Thailand with it.
I really appreciate all of the feedback and information in this thread, it's very helpful in fully understanding the situation.
Please keep this thread going or if there is a different chat I would be grateful to join and also share my experiences.

So only a certain number of EV holders are permitted each day... and we are only allowed on repatriation flights which are like 3 per month here in the usa... so how long a wait is it? And how much are the tickets that EV holders must pay for these flights?

I'm sort of ok with that if they aren't inflating the prices.

I was dealing with Thai Embassy in Washington DC on a Retirement Visa. They were rude and worthless.
I have been dealing with the Thai Embassy in Los Angeles now and they are very helpful and responsive.
I've had the opposite experience, the LA consulate ignores my emails but the DC embassy responds quickly and is helpful.
I'm wary to take a repatriation flight if that is all that is offered, there's just been a steady stream of uninfected (tested before departing) visitors testing positive in quarantine while in Thailand. I'm also interested if the flight prices will be inflated since we are dealing directly with commercial carriers.

Many of these news articles seem sketchy to me (paid ad placement masquerading as a news report) but there are official numbers somewhere too. One thing is certain, the majority of these visa holders are already inside Thailand. Still, a quota of 200 to be allowed in will be exhausted quickly.
I heard from TE that it will be 200 TE visa holders allowed in per day, not 200 in total. Is that incorrect?
TE is targeting end of September to allow TE visa holders in.

So spoke with Thai Elite and they said that for 20 year visa, they issue 5 yr visas that renew. For each of those visas there must be at least 5 years left on passport before the passport expires, otherwise the visa expires with the passport.
So with a 20 year visa, I just need 5+ years left on my passport each time they issue me one of the 5 year visas.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this makes sense, thanks

No, extra time visa wise will not be given.
The Elite visa follows the expiration date of one’s passport.
Even if you have just obtained a five year visa and your passport expires in, let’s say, 2 years, then your visa will expire in two years and you will get a 3 year visa on your new passport.
Also, if you have a six month remaining on your visa, then the officer will not give you one year as they have to follow the date of expiration of your visa.
that works the same way for every visa , I do not see how elite visas would be different. Thanks but this doesn't make any sense, if the maximum age of my passport is 10 years... how would they ever sell a 20 year visa?

With so much uncertainty now, and plans to return to Thailand when it reopens, I'm thinking to get a Tourist Visa or Educational Visa from a language school if they're open... then grab the Elite Visa while in Thailand when/if prices drop... or just before Visa ends (whichever comes first).
I feel much safer in Thailand than in the states and cost of living is dramatically lower.

I'm wondering, in light of the current/future tourism struggles, if there may be a discount or special offer on obtaining the elite visa in the near future.
3 months later, still haven't seen any discount ????

To compare the deaths rate to the total population I will add numbers so that there are 16,000 people (meaning 2700 becomes 16% of the total).
20% of deaths from flu are those under 65, so I will add 20% to the total deaths, and that now totals 16 deaths (+3).
But there are more people, so more would have been infected, and therefore more would have died – even though all the ‘new’ people are under 65.
The Covid deaths rate for under 65s is far less than over 65s (2 or 3 in Australia’s 81) I will add another 16 and double the total.
32 deaths of 15,000 people equals 0.2% - and I wager that will be close to the eventual numbers when they do have all the stats completed (in 2021).I agree with what you said, and I hope the powers that be will start to open the world back up.
You can supplement the Diamond Princess stats (mostly elderly) with the USS T. Roosevelt outbreak (mostly young) to get an even better picture of the mildness of this disease.
In the T. Roosevelt outbreak, of the 600 testing positive, a whopping 60% show no symptoms.

I'm a bernie or bust voter... but the way Trump has handled coronavirus might actually lure me, and others like me, to the polls in November.

I'm just going to deny all handshake offers moving forward, no compelling reason for us to shake hands. Maybe offer an elbow bump if I really like the person.

Right, because the only options in a pandemic are either complete mental breakdown or decide to be ignorant.
There's no area in the middle where you can practice safer habits and make informed decisions to avoid catching a disease.

Good! I hope every country in the world adopts this.
We should all be wearing face masks whenever we step out of the house, the easiest and least painful way for us to hammer covid-19 together.

A month has passed and I'm still hoping for this, or a favorable weakening of the baht to the usd, or both!

I saw this coming back in January and got out of dodge, why these people waited until the very last second is beyond me.

"packed churches all over our country" ... in 18 days.... when we are projected to be losing 1,000 Americans per day to CV-19.
Unbelievable.

face masks are very useful, everyone should be wearing one at this point.
