  1. Thanks for that, I feared that would be the case! Next time I come over ("hopefully"! in February!) I will see if I can try and blag them into putting motorbike up to 250cc on the I.D.P.!
  2. Wonder if any Brits know the answer to this question please?! I have the "old style" U.K. driving license, (green and pink paper one). On that, it says can you can drive motorbikes up to 250 cc (Ive never taken a motorbike test in the U.K. but back in the day we could drive up to a 250 cc on L plates). Would I get a motorbike license on the basis of that? I usually just use an international driving license..........car one, not for a motorbike!
  3. ????? Ive seen lots of nonsense posted on here.. This though takes the biscuit!! Its not even "amazing"....its ridiculous. Pay me back the money I paid you in March 2020 for my cancelled September 2020 flight then moneybags Thai Airways! What a load of old tosh!
  4. "Laid out the welcome mat"? Yeah right! they couldn't have made it more annoying, time consuming, etc. if they'd tried! I was "hoping", that I may return this Winter....Alas, all their "restrictions" etc. have put me right off. Even if I was inclined to do all that nonsense? There doesn't appear to be much open there anyway? Welcome mat indeed! Its about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit.
  5. He is luckier than me then! I paid in March 2020. for a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok for September 2020. SO far..Ive received? Nothing! No refund or no travel voucher!
  6. WHAT!!!!!!!! 11 billion profit in 6 months? Cool, if they are making that much money, then they should be able to refund the money I paid for my flight to Thailand last year! Yeah right! Ive as much chance of getting that back as winning the North Korean lottery! Im no economist, I cant see anybody in the world ,(outside of the Thai government of course!) "lending" them any money! Amazing Thai Airways.....the best way to throw away money in the whole world!!!
  7. That's fantastic. "Approving" about 6500 out of about 40,000 applications. Yes, soon they will be spending their gazillions of pounds/euros/dollars etc, and spreading their wealth into every pocket and corner of Thailand. Or maybe not! I'm an eternal optimist, when I see and hear about Thailand's "plans/ideas/Thailand Pass/C.O.E....when I look at into how many hoops must be jumped through, just to be allowed into a country, with many, many ,millions of its people not fully vaccinated, and many of those vaccinated are with? shall we say inferior vaccines? Then when they do finally manage to arrive into the magical kingdom, what awaits them? Not much in the way of fun and entertainment etc to be honest. Which lets face it, I'm assuming that's what holiday makers are looking for in the first place? As Ive mentioned, I'm an eternal optimist, but I despair with each and every passing day, about the future of tourism and more so, for the millions of poor Thais who rely (or should that be relied?) on tourism. Its (tourism that is) is dying a slow and painful death, not at all helped by the idiotic antics /ideas/plans/requirements blah blah blah. just to even apply to get there. Let alone the travelling etc, then when they get to the airport? They will be met by officials going totally over the top with the haz mat wearing "officials" etc etc. At the end of the day? I "assume" the vast majority of tourists entering Thailand are well vaccinated? I " assume" they are coming from countries, with way better vaccination levels than Thaialand? I "assume" they will have been taking covid tests before even flying etc etc etc? Then they arrive at the airport to be met with all the palaver they have to face?!!! Amazing Thailand indeed. I appreciate and understand that "face is everything in Thailand. What I don't understand though, is that if face is that important in Thailand. how come they don't realise that with all the totally over the top antics/hoop jumping etc . they are looking like a laughing stock world wide? Serious question, Is this "face" thing only relevant about what Thais think abut Thais? Doesnt it count if the rest of the world can see what a bunch of rubbish this all is, and they are losing? " face" worldwide? I was hoping to be able to get back to Thailand in the new year, probably February time, Im a real "fan" of Thailand...but even as much as I desperately want to go back there? No way will I be going back when all these "requirements" etc, are still needed, and many places aren't open, not able to get a drink blah blah blah So the way I look at it? If a real "fan boy" like me, wont put up with all this nonsense..just to get back there,? what chance a "normal/first time to Thailand tourist etc." will go there? Amazing indeed! Sorry...! rant over!
  8. More like 40 years ago! The first time I went to Thailand, was in the early 80s, used to spend the winter times, back packing in Thailand.staying 99% of the time in Samui, Ahh those were that days!
  9. * He said, with the adequate, timely and equitable support, through technology transfer and cooperation and, most importantly, the availability of and access to ample green financing facilities, Thailand can increase our Nationally determined contributions (NDC) to 40% and reach carbon neutrality in 2050." And nobody in the audience, believed a single word of it!
  10. Great post..... If only those in charge had any common sense whatsoever. it would benefit Thailand and its people massively. Im desperate to come back to Thailand.. No way in hell though, am I desperate to go through all the hoops, just to enter Thailand. THEN! To be greeted by a massive overkill on arrival. to then have another test, go to some hotel, wait for the results ("personally" I wouldnt put much trust in the results anyway!),. THEN! When (If!) you manage to do the above, off you go.....be aware though, lots of things arent open, if you want a sociable drink etc. (yes I know you can buy a drink in 7 or similar! who wants that? Certainly not the mega millionaires T.A.T. want in!) then tough luck. I love Thailand, i was "hoping" next year January/February time, it may be open "properly".....with each passing day, I get less hopeful though!
  11. I think your guess is spot on! The vast majority will "stay put" and not visit Thailand right now. I "guess" its nothing to do with paying an extra £50 ? either. A lot of things are deterring real tourists coming to Thailand with the restrictions still in place, lots of places not open, not serving alcoholic beverages, getting "Thai pass" , special insurances, having covid tests, blah blah blah, added to the fact, i "guess" many potential tourists, are looking at the vaccination levels of the Thai nationals, and are thinking? Hmmmmm lets leave it for a bit....see what happens. So yes, I suppose, paying an extra £50 for one night could well irk some would be tourists................its just one of a myriad of things that are preventing any real number of tourists, coming to Thailand and spending their hard earned money right now.
  12. Easiest question I will be answering today (this year probably!). A big fat resounding no.
  13. Ive booked to go to the Canary islands, for 4 weeks, January/February. I arrive back into U.K. February 12.............IF Thailand is "properly" open by then (I mean properly open, with NO restrictions etc. ) I will go back to Thailand the week beginning February 14. NO WAY IN HELL! would I book any sort of plane ticket etc, to Thailand until everything is sorted out to being "properly open". SO in reality...............it looks like, when I get back from The Canary Islands on Feb. 12 2022..........I will be looking to book another trip to Canary Islands/Spain etc ! Maybe this time next year, Thailand may be properly open....maybe not. The only trouble is. by this time next year, there will be not much "tourist wise"! left standing/open by then!! People (tourists/holiday makers etc) just will not put up with the never ending nonsense and mumbo jumbo. coming from the mouths of Thai authorities , The amount of hoop jumping etc. just to step foot into "Amazing Thailand", is getting more and more ridiculous with each passing day. R.I.P. To the tourism industry of Thailand,
  14. The crux of the matter in this, and in most of Thailands problems are, what hs said in the last sentence. " “My point of contention is that the prime minister is adopting ‘security as the first priority’ to deal with a public health issue which, I think, is inappropriate,” said the government MP, adding “I have no problem with the individual (General Nattaphon, former secretary-general of the National Security Council), but I have problem with the logic.”
  15. That clown couldnt "solve" a crossword puzzle.........let alone "solve" the covid in the south!
  16. Hmmn, It looks like I "may" be able to go in February then. There again.......I may not! Depends on how many times they change their minds re. quarantine etc etc really!
  17. Im waiting until the restrictions to enter Thailand are all lifted. When will this be? God knows! Certainly not me! Surely to god, those "in charge" in Thailand, must know, the vast majority of tourists arent going to return until these restrictions are lifted? A holiday is "meant"! to be a time for you to de-stress", yet Thailand, continually keep coming up with preposterous "restrictions/plans/sand box this/quarantine that/hardly anything open/blah blah blah". These "restrictions" etc, are also changed/altered etc, on a seemingly daily basis...and they expect millions to come , after having to do all the nonsense above? Yeah right! Ive booked a 4 week holiday in the Canary Islands (granted not as hot as Thailand!, but much better than winter in Blighty!), for January/February 2022............IF Thailand is "properly" open by then? I will go there in February. I however, think it wont be open "properly", until this time next year....By then.....It could of course be "too late" to save Thailands tourism industry. Ive been visiting Thailand for nigh on 40 years now. so Im well aware of what goes on, the "face saving" etc. etc. Im still amazed though (yes! even after 39 years!) of the utter tripe that comes out of these peoples mouths!! Amazing Thailand indeed. People WILL choose other destinations worldwide, to spend their holidays in ..Thailand is not the be all and end all of "Tourism" . I know that, millions of "tourists" worldwide know that. Such a shame those clowns in charge, in Thailand dont know that, and think people will jump through various hoops., just to be allowed entry into Amazing Thailand. I love Thailand, I HOPE it re-opens soon...I somehow doubt it though. I think this time next year, "may" be O.K. Of course though, anything could and will! happen by then....Thailands tourism is "teetering on the edge" for its survival, What it sure as hell doesnt need! , are the ridiculous restrictions, just to enter the country, thats before they even jump on the pane at their airports in their own country!
  18. Also a silver member, for years no way will I ever use them again.....they still havent refunded me for my trip last September,,,(not that I ever expect it to be refunded!). I just hope, that if and when, they get back up and running, many many previous customers boycott them. They were good for me because of their flight times/arrivals from UK., plus the direct flights. "Service" though had been going downhill for many years. I dont mind stopping of in the Middle East (when/if things get back to some sort of normalcy)..so no real hardship for me.........I hope they get (Thai Airways that is!) everything they deserve..........
  19. You've been posting this virtually daily for weeks now. I sure hope it does happen. Will it happen? Who knows?, I doubt it though. I would be frankly, amazed, if Thailand "fully" opens up for tourism this year. There is nobody more desperate to come back to Thailand than myself . Even me though, I wont go back until, everything is open, no "quarantine", no C.O.E. etc. etc etc. "Hopefully", early next year, may be possible.....as I say though, who knows...certainly not me! The fact that people "book and plan" their holidays etc etc etc, seems to be lost on the clowns in Thai Tourism/Govt. etc, they are expecting millions of people to flock back into Thailand, as soon as "they " say they can.................Thats not going to happen....as much as Id love it to be true!
  20. It would take about? 100 "Elliot Ness" type characters . to even scratch the surface of the corruption in the R.T.P.
  21. I certainly hope it is indeed feasible. The only trouble is, its pretty well the "norm", now for saying 70% of vaccinated people isn't enough, its more like 85%...the other thing is, how many other poor souls will lose their lives until then? I sure wouldn't like to be in Thailand now, if I wasn't vaccinated. My heart goes out to all those desperate for a proper vaccine.
