  1. Tourism not happening for a long time.....

But.............pricing will go up to make up for the loss of wealth. Thai way.

Already had 4 cries of help, 50.000 baht the best cry...

"Lend me but do not know when I pay back" 5555555

Wonder how the 'sharks' are getting their loans repayed from the bar girls....or is there a glut of 'clicks' parked around Patong.

Bosses running thousands of tourist to Phuket’s beautiful islands make billions every year and pay their workers a pittance.

Sadly these guys should realise the ‘power’ they had and refuse to work for below minimum wage.

Only themselves to blame unfortunately and hopefully will come out of this     more aware.

300 a day is the new minimum

  3. No customers and the staff are cued at Sarisin checkpoint trying to get off the island...

    So why would you open....?

You do realise this is a global problem and not just thai centric...ie. no external travel..

No internal travel...globally for most countries.

Gee, had to bite my tongue hard to write that.

And what planes will they be coming back on, ??? Air canada just announced no international flights till Christmas.

    Yes he's dreaming....

Australia are not opening borders till a cure...

Australia compulsory 2 week government paid quarantine on entry...for citizens.

So his Oz mates will be parked on their <deleted> for a year or two yet. Fortress Oz.

Oh maybe allowing flights between NZ and OZ at a later stage. The 'downunder bubble'.

Thailand will not be receiving OZ/NZ tourists as Governments are not chancing it with dodgy testing from third world countries.

Cotton and surgical masks were not effective at filtering SARS-CoV-2 during coughs from patients infected with the virus, according to Seongman Bae, MD, of the University of Ulsan College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, and associates.

  6. Lot of posters dont get it.

Phuket in relation to western tourists will be off limits until a cure is found...Australia are enforcing their borders..Most cases come via air or sea, understandably governments are distressed with 2 week government quarantines mandatory making for vacations a non event...Governments are not trusting figures coming out of some countries....what posters forget is the cost to western countries and the debt incurred and the fact that they are gun shy...

Phuket tourism in a western sense is finished until a cure is found or the globe gets herd immunity which would take many many years.

Even , being very optimistic, its all good in the next 2-3 months there will not be any tousits for at least 6 months after or more

Try 2 years or vaccine....no country will allow returning citizens in without quarantined 2 weeks...take that out of your annual leave. Not happening. Home countries will be the vacation hotspots.

and there you have it... sorry to say that many many businesses will go down through no fault of their own. Who knows when travel will get back to normal. I think it will take a while.

2 years minimum or until a vaccine or mandatory quarantine for 2 weeks hardly worth short stay long term stay different story.

Nothing much is taking off at the moment and it seems you have left it to the last minut to arrange your travel back as many countries have shut down their airports for all incoming traffic so it looks like you're stuck unless you can charter a learjet...

Lolita Express? Seems it could fly anywhere in the world unchecked.

Most people saw this coming and would have gotten out or hunkered down. And 60 or so infected cases in Phuket is a lot. You face being quarantined even if you could get out. Oh, and isn't most or all of the Phuket hotels and guest houses shutting their doors now?

Better tell the US president that......3/4weeks ago the world was still in denial...2 weeks ago still in denial....hindsight, yep good old hindsight....Agree, for a small island, the number is a lot....but mass tourism does have its negatives. The OP should have got out though, if he's short on cash.

  11. Hotels open everywhere in the world ... I am in one (Qatar).

Phuket/Patong are closing so they don't have to pay staff as the bottom figure was already red lining from the past 12 months..They could remain open and put staff to work overhauling/cleansing rooms but again profit is the bottom line and not the wellbeing of staff financially....an observation, not a rant.

Here the staff are cleaning room by room, with bathrooms scrubbed with toothbrushes, I kid you not.
