  1. Fantastic night for Spurs, what a great story it was.....after a shaky start to first 5 minutes and WHU not converting a great opportunity to go up 1-0, it was Berbatov, the Iceman, scoring seconds later out of clear blue sky with a beautiful header and Spurs were up 1-0. This was beginning of end for WHU, which did itself not any favors by keeping Boa Morte more then 43minutes in game, as he was sent off seconds later....Gilberto, made up for his error against PSV, with a fantastic left footer in 85th minute, before Bent in 93rd, was putting icing on cake...4 - nothing it was Spurs!!

Berbatov, Lennon, Hutton (why did he change his shirt from 28 to no. 50 in middle of game?) Huddlestone, all brilliant. This should give enough confidence for Wednesdays game at PSV, then ManC next Sunday and on top of everything, its Chelsea at WHL on 19th March, can't wait watching CC replay!! :o

  2. What happend in Birmingham was an unmotivated Spurs team, without Lennon and Jenas in first half (Why Juande?) still in recovery mode from all partying after CC win, knowing that League is almost over, but has Ramos considered that it is only 7 points difference to a relegation spot???

PSV at home this week and then a BIG one against WHU this Sunday, 10pm live on True Sport 1. If they can pull a win through then there wont be much to worry about for rest of season....so then...CMON U SPUUUURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Here are a few comparison of todays exchange rates to dollar

    Super Rich 33,07

    Siam Commercial Bank 32,76

    Kasikorn 32,77

    UOB 32,79

Basically there are only 2 well known official money changers in BKK

    1. SUPER RICH with headoffice located behind BIG C Rajadamri and

    2. Vasu Money Changer opposite Coffee World/Subway Sukhumvit 7/1 (tailor shop in front and money changer hidden behind wall in back of shop without any board displaying rates, therefore not sure how "official" this shop is with bib as no passport is requested, just number.

Anyway, made an interesting observation this week. I noticed yesterday that Super Rich is also providing a money exchange booth in Silom Road, right next to OISHI Japanese buffet restaurant. Rates displayed yesterday showed BUY 100USD at 22.90THB.

This seemed extremly low, so I decided not to change there and wait until today and went to Super Rich on Rajadamri. Rate displayed today was BUY 100USD at 33,07THB.

On way back passed again Super Rich booth and noticed that they still display THB22,90, a difference of 17 Satang....hmmmm, whats wrong here??? Still better rate then banks, but whats going with this booth over there??

    Anyone knows? :o

  5. I expect SET to continue its path as it did on Friday and end slightly higher due to further gains of PTT and energy stocks. Election results were as expected and local investors will continue playing small caps on Tuesday. Foreigners will stay on sidelines for now and observe situation with caution. SET is doomed to close around 850points by year end. But as always with everything in Thailand, dont take things too serious.... :o

  6. JAPAN introduces fingerprints

    Thursday, 1 November 2007

Japan tightens immigration rules that require all visitors to be fingerprinted.

Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice of Japan announces new measures against acts of terrorism that all foreign visitors to Japan must be fingerprinted, photographed and interviewed before entering effective from 20 November.

A new law amending parts of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act of Japan was promulgated and is due to enter into force as of 20 November.

The revised law contains new provisions for the establishment of a framework for preventative measures against acts of terrorism. As part of this framework, a new anti-terrorism measure is to be implemented, which requires the submission of personal identification information at immigration control.

Under the new immigration procedures, when foreign nationals are applying for landing, fingerprints and a facial photograph will be taken after which an immigration control officer shall conduct an examination for landing.

In the event of any foreign national, who is required by the new law to be fingerprinted and photographed, refusing to submit to these new provisions, that person will not be permitted to enter Japan , and will be required to leave the country.

All foreign nationals entering Japan will be subject to the new provisions, apart from the following: special permanent residents; persons under 16 years of age; those persons performing activities which fall under the status of residence for ‘Diplomat’ or ‘Official’; those persons who have been invited by the head of any national administrative organization; and those persons who are prescribed by the Ministry of Justice ordinance as equivalent to the prior mentioned.

  7. QUOTE (astral @ 2007-10-25 12:58:53)

Why oh Why is nothing done to manage the floods that occur every year?????????

Because flood defence systems are extremely expensive and most developing countries including Thailand simply can not afford them

Because its not in budget this year and maybe not next year but......seems buying 12 Swedish fighter jets for 34 Billion Baht is of more importance right now.. :o

  8. Would highly appreciate if anyone could give feedback on which 2 brokers mentioned is more user and foreign friendly in terms of speed opening an account, trading platform etc...Seamico is working with SCB and Kim Eng with Kasikorn.

Will be trading most of time from outside LOS, right now in BKK, and therefore need reliable internet banking, which one of 2 from your experience is more reliable and works better???

    Thanks for your feedback!!

  9. agreeing to acquire asiarooms.com, a

leading online B2C provider of hotel accommodation in Asia. Asiarooms.com has

established itself as a significant online retailer of accommodation by applying

leading edge technology and web capabilities in one of the fastest growing

travel markets. Its main source markets are the USA, UK, Singapore and Australia

serving key destinations of Thailand, Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong. In the

current year, the business is on track to sell nearly 4m bed nights. This

acquisition adds to our growing position in the Asia Pacific region and online

accommodation market where we continue to see excellent growth and margin

opportunities for the Group going forward.

and winner is Asiarooms.com. Looking at their About us page, it amazes me that such a reputet company as TUI would buy a Pattaya based online company, with such an obvious and apparent lack of transparency not even offering a simple email address. No names of management team or ownership, which surely must be for some reason.....

  10. We stayed there from the 12th till the 15th of september.

We made the booking over the telephone and was told that they had a standard double room available untill the 14th and they were fully booked after that, we accepted and would look for new digs for the one night stay.

When we checked in we were informed that a "Superior Suite" was available for the entire duration, it wasn't a great deal more in money terms so we accepted.

Now, our room was on the 11th floor, nothing wrong there, but there was a water leak from the ceiling space in the corridor adjacent to our room ( a faithfull mat left to soak it up ), we accepted that.

The room was good, slightly smaller than you would think a superior to be.

The worst part was the shower, you were lucky to get hot water, we told the management and it was the old it will be fixed soon thing.

Complimentary breakfast, probably better going to Subway up the road, or street food

I am not posting this as a winge, just for fellow travellers advice.

    cheers

    bronco

Why is a Thai Visa "Super Moderator" staying at the #1 sex tourist hotel? Thai Culture?

Yes why?? Quiet surprised seeing such a thread being started by a Super Moderator......smells like a bad joke. :o

  11. I'm glad Vietnam Airlines has outphased all their TUPOLEV's after last fatal incident in 1997. They have kept solid record since then...knock wood...

except a small incident last year:

    17. April 2006: Pilots flying a Boeing 777 from Hanoi to Frankfurt lost communication with ground control for more than an hour as the aircraft flew over Ukraine, Poland and the Czech Republic. After Czech air traffic controllers tried unsuccessfully to contact the plane for 25 minutes, the Czech Air Force sent two jet fighters to flank the airliner. The pilots then realized their mistake and turned the communications system on. The pilots were suspended by the airline and made to undergo more training before they could fly again. It's also been said but denied that the pilots had fallen asleep and the crew are supposed to check on them every fifteen minutes, but they did not.

  12. Tourism back on track in Phuket

    Sirima Eamtako, Bangkok (2007-09-19)

TOURISM business is almost back to normal in Phuket within just three days after the tragic One-Two-Go air crash on Sunday.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office director, Ms Suwalai Pinpradab, said the only cancellations recorded were from about 20 to 30 honeymoon couples from South Korea, who aborted their incoming flight to Phuket on Monday as it was then unclear when the airport would be re-opened.

"I have not heard of any cancellations from any tour operators since then and I don't foresee any more cancellation. It's now business as usual in Phuket. People understand that what happened was a mere accident, caused by the foul weather. They have also witnessed and heard of the harmonious and tireless efforts put on by the Thai government and private sector. Rescues have been fast."

Ms Suwalai said looking forward to the last quarter of this year, there would continue to be an influx of tourists to Phuket, Phang-nga and Krabi. All scheduled and chartered flights planned for the three Andaman coastal provinces during the winter timetable would remain unchanged.

More than 2,000 charter flights are expected to operate into Phuket International Airport from October 2007 until March 2008. The airport resumed operations Monday early evening, after a day's closure.

Forward hotel bookings likewise remain strong. Phuket Tourist Association (PTA) reports more than 95 per cent in forward bookings for around 35,000 hotel rooms available in Phuket - some 85 per cent of all bookings come from Europe while the rest come from Asia, Middle East and the US. PTA president, Mr Maitree Narukatpichai, said some markets such as South Korea, Japan and Russia needed more rooms, but occupancy was tight. He said they might have to seek rooms in Phang-nga or Krabi.

He added room rates had gone up by 10 per cent, with a room night at an international five-star hotel costing about 7,000 baht (US$220), a local five- and four-star about 5,000 or 4,000 baht and a three-star about 3,000 baht.

One-Two-Go has activated eight hotlines numbers and one Phuket Co-ordination Centre number and has listed the names of 42 survivors on its website www.fly12go.com.

According to Thailand's Department of Civil Aviation, Mr Chaisak Angkhasuwan, the airline has two insurance polities with UK-based Penloyd. The US$300 million policy covers passengers for death, medical expenses and transport after accident. Another US$5-million policy covers damages on the aircraft and its passengers.

  13. Harding said he landed at Phuket on another One-Two-Go airliner that landed five minutes before the plane crash.

"It was the roughest landing I've ever experienced," he said. "I've never been through anything like that."

Harding, who lives in the resort town of Phuket, said the plane "knocked up against a hill."

    Correction:

Harding said that he took airplane from NEW Airport, however 12Go is only departing from OLD Airport. He and his mate decided randomly to travel to Phuket without having a flight confirmation and went to NEW Airport from where they booked themselves on next available flight......Air Asia, is only budget carrier still using NEW airport...so it was by pure chance that they were not on this flight....
