I'm just trying to book a flight and getting some amazing deals on flying out of Manchester UK to Shanghai, however problem seems to be flying from Shanghai to BKK return which seems to be priced normally £400 plus, apart from Air India at £250.

Anyone over there got any ideas or know which carriers fly on a regular route between the two ???

My Tilac is setting up a small shop (nothing major) in Bangkok (Huay Kwang), and i was wondering if anyone new of any good (cheap) wholesalers.

It's just the genetal sort of mini mart stuff she's after purchasing.

Any advice (especially from anyone with a shop) would be much appreciated.

Any ideas on general proft margin would be handy also, she's not looking to become Tacksin overnight but i just want to ensure she'll make money ok, and not lose out.

It's one of them small shops below an apartment block which is quite full, rent about 5k / month.

I was just pondering a case that my gf thought would be funny and I could not

understand the funny side of it.

In fact after a long consideration I thought I could see the funny side but not

from my perspective.

It went as follows, over xmas we applied for a tourist visa for her to visit the UK

she knew it was very important to me as I spent most the holiday preparing

and trying to push her down to the embassy !

Anyway eventually we got an interview for the day after I had to leave !

So I went home , then hard to phone her UK time approx 4am to check she

was going to the embassy and that she got the visa.

Now, she thought it was funny firstly to pretend to be angry and tell me she wasn't

going and then after she had got the visa to pretend she didn't get the visa.

She thought it better to wait a couple of weeks until my birthday and then tell me,

luckily I found out as I told her I'd phone the embassy myself.

I'm sure all you other guys see the funny side of this and possibly now I can

but at the time it was f**kn serious, just wondered if anyone had any

similar experiences ???

I was thinking of setting up a small business import to UK with help of gf,

but after a recent small shopping transaction have been a bit discouraged as

follows:

About 4 months ago I ordered some tailor made thai boxing shorts with my name and th gf's name in thai written on them at one of the boxing stadiums.

My gf done the order and they told her they would call her when readu, they also

had my email and phone number.

After about 2 months and I'd called them I just forgot about them, until last week !

My gf went back to the shop to buy me something and there on the rack

"for general sale" where my personalised shorts with my name on !!

Has anyone else found that dealing with the thais is at the least not straight

forward any examples would be helpful !!

Got UK visa in jan, interview was approx 2 weeks they tried to say four but I phoned up and asked if they could do it sooner they phoned a couple of days later and fitted us in earlier.

I've just got a visa for my gf to visit UK and aparently now is a good time to try as not too many applications due to cold !

Firstly go down with your gf to the embassy and take a completed application form, ask them at the counters inside for the list of proof you must bring with you (they give you an orange piece of paper with all on).

They will also give you an interview date for you to take everything down, please note you must take all the originals and one copy.

They are basically looking for evidence that she will return so anything such as

Jobs, proof of income including bank statements etc., wageslips, although

we managed with just a letter.

Land, if she has any get the documents translated and this will help, we told

them she was planning to build on it so good reason to return.

Cash, we managed to gather 100k baht together and placed in her bank but

just watch how you place it in, it may be better if your short of time to lump

it into one account then close that account put the full sum into a second

account (assuming she has more than one bank) so when they ask they

just see one account closed and placed into another and hopefully wont

look back to the large amount put in (if required).

Dress, make sure she dresses smart, when we went down my gf was amazed

with how many girls that looked like they'd came straight from the bar in pattaya!

She fully understood then why so many get knocked back.

Polite, always be nice if you get there back up by arguing it aint gonna help matters.

Flight cost, if they asl whose paying say you are or they will look at her money in

her account and deduct the cost of a flight before assessing.

Your 6 months of bank statements and 6 months payslips.

Proof you have somewhere to stay, ie. your if staying at your family then

proof they either rent (landlords permission) or if own mortgage statement.

At the end of the day, it's ok telling people you can support her etc. but they

need the paperwork so they can tick the boxes to say they have the correct

form of proof.

Photos, etc. just to back up your relationship places you have been etc.

Remember to take your originals, ie bank books , colour photocopies of passports including every stamped page.

We also had to have her family book officially translated !

Oh yes ! And we also gave a pigs head to a temple buddha, apparently this

was all for good luck I didn't believe it but hey its worked !!

Just as a note, I had a terrible time getting my gf there as she was scared of

a "blacklist", I asked about this and it's a load of crap just be persistent with

the gf its important they get it right. Also they may ask where you met or

something and they will view "nightclub, bar, sukhumvit area, etc." as bad.

Apparently i met my gf in mcdonalds ! Whatever !

I agree with the points made about the jealousy and understand why she is the jealous type after what she has told me regarding previous relationships and the fact her dad decided to leave her mam for another wife at an early age for her doesn't add up to much.

But she is always sorry 1,2 or 3 ! days later, but she seems to becoming to terms with it a bit easier and I'm starting to learn the "mai pen rai" attitude !

Also agree with what our saying Ned about projected anxieties, this thought did cross my mind on a couple of occasions and I wondered if it was a form of defense so if she's angry with me I won't talk to her for a day and she's left alone to do whatever !

Still, I'm gonna stick it out as the other side of her is truly wonderful and as a

precautionery measure I've learnt how to say duck in thai, if she mentions it once (chicken flu or no chicken flu!) I'm off !!

Just wondered how many of you other guys have experienced the living apart and if so wos it a constant fight !!

My gf seems intent that if I don't answer the phone or worse still I've changed

SIM card and she thinks my phones off ! on completely accusing me of

going short time !! (I know the girls in UK are easy but not that easy !! )

(She has both numbers but she is LAZY TO SAVE DIFFERENT NO. )

Anyone else experienced this and if so is their a solution or even an end to it ?

It looks to me as the answer is to ignore her for about 3 days, but I'm

uncertain if this method is going to work ?? or make things worse !!

from bangkok ?

How much does yours cost you ?

Also is the tourist visa 30 days or can you extend it to 90 days ?

Geeit heres my advice for what it's worth.

Go down Nana Plaza and tell one of the nice girls their your a property investor but need someone to help ou as you cant own land in thailand.

I'm sure they will be only too glad to help you invest in their sacred soil and may

even fight at the opportunity presented to them.

I got a Nationwide "Cash Card Only" account no switch , etc.

Just set up the account in your name and then give the card to your gf

and transfer your life savings !

No costs for withdrawals overseas so you can be satisfied that all your

hard earned dosh is going to a worthy cause / thai bf (only joking!) and

not some city slciker bank institution or worse still raising funds to

pay the goernments tax bills !

Just make sure on the account that you opt for Cash Card only, I'm

sure your gf will be extremely pleased to receive your cashcard !

You won't go wrong with a canon or a nikon but my advice is take the canon.

Something like a Canon IXUS 3 or 400 will be well within your budget and if you

really wanted to you could get a canon direct printer so no need for a pc. However

i know in the UK the card prices are expensive so it might not be cost

effective.

I would stear clear of Olympus as my first camera was olympus an not upto much,

the likes of casio and other non primary camera makers also won't be upto much

when it comes to picture quality, at the end of the day cameras can have as many

fancy buttons but if the lens and the processor ain't good your never going to

be able to get a good picture.

Best bet is to get a magazine learn all the terminology then find out exactly

what you need from a camera, make a shortlist in your budget and then

over to the missus for the one that looks "cute".

doing it from the thailand side, is "thai air" expensive from over there as I'd

Had an interesting conversation with a thai taxi driver who could speak incredibly good english.

He told me that thai women are nomally not jealous it is just those exposed to and work in the "night entertainment industry".

Has anyone any experience of normal thai ladies as oppose to night time

workers, and can the conclusion be drawn that they are only jealous due

to the environment they have become exposed to ?
