I was in the same position as you. Could not decide. Asked in a few communities. Parents. Girflriend. Everybody said "are you nuts, go back to Germany, you want to die here?" blah blah... I came back to Germany yesterday. I could not regret it more! The cases in Thailand start to go down already. They do not plan a 24hr curfew. I guess in a month or two everything will be back to normal in Thailand. But I think traveling to Thailand will be not possible for quite some time.
So, stuck here in depressive cold Germany while the media is driving the Covid train try scare the hell out of people. I would not wonder if Europe will be in the Covid fever for this year 2020 and traveling is impossible.
Its up to you. But I regret it badly that I listened to all the scared people. In reality there is not much risk. In 2018 86.000 people died from the Flu alone in the US and over 500.000 world wide!! Where was the panic?
EDIT: And can you imagine the risk of flying! I was in 23 hrs curfew with my Thai GF in Thailand and felt very safe. We went out to buy food and spent the rest of the day home. Was very nice and enjoyable.
Yesterday I flight with 300-400 people. Sit next to each other. The women sit next to me coughed the hell out of her lungs. Its so stupid you cant imagine! I was sure everybody in the plane get its own row. But the real case is, if one person had corona on that flight, we all might got it now. And then when you exit the plane, you have to have a social distance of 1.5m to people you sit next to for 13 hrs ????
Reading through this thread, I wish I would have asked here and would have stayed then. More optimism here. On other communities they called me nuts as if you will die for sure if you stay.

I am considering to fly to Bangkok and rent a condominium. Phuket or at least Patong makes no sense at this point. Almost everything has been shut down.
I cant estimate how the situation will look in a month or two here in Thailand. That worries me. I mean life has to go on. But I can imagine crime could skyrocket. Especially against tourists.

I am currently in Patong and feel safe here. Me and my Thai girlfriend only leave the room to buy food. Use masks. This morning she wake me up and told me the phuket government want to close all hotels in Phuket. Or at least are not allowed to accept New customer.
The fun thing is, the Phuket Airport will shut down on April 10th. So what the Phuket government do think where we tourists who cant get a flight can sleep? We can not exit Phuket by water, land or air. And also we are not allowed to stay in hotels. I am amazed by their wise and well thought decisions.
I have the feeling hate against farang will grow very soon here because the Phuket government try to blame us for the virus instead of themselfes for not shutting down the country way earlier and welcome Wuhan tourists with open arms.

Hi Sele, I'm from Germany too but on another Visa. Yes, unfortunately our German embassy is not giving us any letter to extend our stay.
Die Deutsche Botschaft Bangkok stellt (entgegen anderslautender Informationen in den sozialen Medien) keine Bescheinigungen zur Visa-Verlängerung aus

All people has this problem right now. The only hope at the moment for us - is that the situation will change in the next few days. I doubt you can't get a flight right now back to Germany or they will cancel it. But it's worth to take look at bsp. Lufthansa. Or consider a flight to another country. Im sorry that you are in this situation. It should not be like that.
Hi Bestie,
thanks. Actually I dont want to go back. My plan was to stay here a few months and do a visa run between. I booked the run to Ranong but they cancelled it on friday. I think it's not safe to fly now. Wait hours in the airport between hundrets of people, then sit with possible infected people.
I am ready to overstay and pay the 20k in case.
But let's hope the situation changes soon and the thai government give visa. But I think they are only after money because they know people have to overstay and pay 500 a day.

Hi, German here, currently in Patong. My Tourist visa ends tomorrow (extended 30 days already). I went to the Patong Immigration today and showed them the Document on page one. They only laughed their ass off and gave me 7 days for 1900 baht.
I was in the German embassy in Phuket this morning. The German Chef their answered me in a strong hard tone that they dont give any documents to extend the stay. The threatment made me feel back in Germany lol. Missed that. Not.
So What's next after 7 days? Overstay and pay 20000 baht at the airport?
