  1. Would you mind sharing where did you apply for your tourist visa, and how was the process?
  2. Went to jomtien today and got a covid extension (under consideration stamp). I didn't have a tm30 and tried to get one under my gf address, but didn't have blue book photo. Thankfully, the lady was nice enough to tell me that if I show a hotel booking she will give me a tm30 that way. So went out to the lobby, quickly booked a room in agoda, got my tm30, then got my ticket for counter a1, and no one questioned me or gave me a hard time for previous covid stamps. Process was long, arrived at 08:00 and finished at 15:30 (they kicked us out at 10:15 and said they'll start calling us at 13:00), but I can say that compared to the situation at lak si, this office was way more friendly and accommodating. Everyone's objective there seemed to be to get you what you need to get the stamp you need. My existing covid extension wasn't set to expire until 9/21, so they accepted my application 30 days early.
  3. Went to Laksi today for a covid extension, and I get the lady a lot of you all are always talking about here. Long story short, she says I've been here too long and she won't give me a covid stamp (I've been here since the beginning of the amnesty period and the covid extensions). I tried to politely state I would prefer not to travel at this time, then she said she will give me a 7 day extension which I did not want, so she starts being dismissive of me and tells me now I have to go see the supervisor. So the supervisor wants to know what do I do in Thailand and I told her my partner works here, she asks if my girlfriend is Thai, and I answered Filipino, but looking back I wonder if I would've answered Thai if that would've been sufficient for her... So then she tells me that I should fly to the Philippines, to which I asked why would I do that if my partner is here? After some discussion I get the hint that if I can just show any flight ticket they will give the extension, so I just asked can I buy a flight right now on my phone and would that be enough for her to give me the extension, to which she says yes. I briefly considered my options of going to Pattaya or another office, but then considering my whole day there plus time and travel to try this again on another day, vs the cost of a ticket to saigon which was 1600thb, and I just decided to buy the thing and get it over with, and 30 minutes later I was out of there with my under consideration stamp. Anyways, I'm not here to complain, as actually the supervisor seemed like a very polite and even caring person, and ultimately I got what I came for. I just thought I'd share as a heads up for others, that denying covid extensions at Laksi is definitely something the officers are doing there. Buying a flight ticket seems to satisfy them, but YMMV...
  4. Hi all, my girlfriend is a teacher and has recently changed schools but she has found the new school to be a very hostile work environment and is wondering how to get out from under them. As of now, she has signed a contract for a year with them, but the school has not filed for her work permit yet as they were waiting for her to get a bunch of paperwork done, which she just completed Friday, and her work permit with her old school hasn't been cancelled yet as they agreed to wait on the new school first. So my question is, if she were to decide to leave this current school what would her options be? Could the new school stop her from trying to work elsewhere because she signed a contract with them? A few scenarios she is considering are to go back to her old school because her work permit is still with them and her old boss has indicated there is an opening for her, or she is thinking of leaving the country for a month and coming back in under a tourist or exempt and take her time applying with various schools, but the question on our minds is what power or ability does the new school have over her with the signed contract? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
