Another problem is availability of 72hr PCR tests unless you live in a big city might require a hotel the night before this will be harder as more labs stop doing them.

Correct. I live in a medium Swiss with excellent infrastructure. I just visited 2 hospitals and 3 pharmacies until I was able to secure a PCR test possibility for next Friday afternoon after 3 p.m. (my flight leaves the next Monday at 2 p.m., hence within 71 hours).

On Saturdays and on Sundays almost nobody does PCR tests.

This testing nonsense has to stop.

  2. I want to arrive in Thailand on March 3.

The new Thailand pass with only one PCR test can only be booked starting March 1, which is too late.

Do you think I can book the old Thailand pass NOW which still needs one PCR test on day 1 and another PCR test on day 5, and later just cancel the PCR test for day 5?

Are there hotels with PCR packages that can be canceled (Pattaya)?

I arrive for the Sandbox on the 3rd October and have also paid for 14 days SHA+ and 3 tests. I sent a similar enquiry to the London embassy last week when this news broke and have not received a reply.

I am therefore assuming that my CoE is still valid and I will attempt to get part-refunds on arrival but, quite honestly, it's not a huge amount of money and as long as I can gain entry to Phuket then I will not lose any more sleep over this whole PITA.

Just leave everything the same. Send an email to your Hotel and ask them to refund you for the second week now or when you arrive.

I assume the Hotels, PCR-Test centers etc. must have received strict instructions to reimburse the 2nd week (and the 3rd PCR test). Everything I read the reimbursement was now problem. My hotel in Patong reimbursed within 3 hours yesterday.

So far, there is NO PROOF that vaccinated people can not pass on the virus.

This is CORRECT and the WHO has repeated this several times. We will know the truth only after several months. Until then we can expect ASQ to be required also for vaccinated people.

And if vaccinated people really can pass on the virus, then we can expect ASQ to remain in place for everybody until a large majority of the Thai population has been vaccinated. Maybe this is why Prayut is now urging his people to buy as much vaccine as quickly as possible.

When applying for the Non Imm O-A Visa, which can only be done at the thai embassy in your home-country, you need to provide evidence that you have health-insurance that will cover you in Thailand and meets the minimum Immigration Office requirements (i.e. 400K in-patient / 40K out-patient coverage).

A thai IO-approved health-insurance policy (issued by a TGIA insurer) will be accepted but might be difficult to get when you are in your home-country.

Therefore there is also the possibility of applying with a foreign health-insurance policy.

In the case you have an international health-insurance policy which meets the requirements, you need to convince your insurer to fill in the Foreign Insurance Certificate (FIC) stating that your policy meets the requirements.  But since that FIC refers to thai legislation which foreign insurers are not familiar with, it is difficult to persuade them to fill in that FIC.  The only reports of applicants that succeeded in having that FIC filled-in and accepted by the thai embassy where they applied, were when the applicant had a good personal relation with his insurer agent.

But that's not the end of the ordeal.

When the thai embassy issues your Non Imm O-A Visa it will also contain a note stating the expiry date of your health-insurance policy.  And thai border-immigration will only stamp you in for a permission to stay that does not exceed that policy expiry date.  Which means you cannot make use of the 2nd year your Non Imm O-A Visa previously could provide you (unless you were able to convince your insurer to put a 2-year date on the validity of your foreign health-insurance, and this being taken over on the embassy note in your passport).

Also, you need to be aware that your foreign insurance is ONLY valid when applying for the Non Imm O-A Visa.  Once you are in Thailand and need to extend the permission to stay of your Non Imm O-A Visa for reason of retirement, your foreign insurance will not be accepted.  The PoliceOrder clearly states that only thai IO-approved policies from TGIA insurers are accepted.

Non Imm O-A Visa holders that applied for a 1-year retirement extension reported that:

    - IO requires an original certificate from your thai IO-approved insurer stating that your policy meets the IO requirements;

    - IO will then look up the policy in the TGIA database, and will not accept your application unless your policy details are in that database (so a thai insurance policy from a non-TGIA insurer will not be accepted).

Considering all of the above it is no wonder that applications for the Non Imm O-A Visa have fallen drastically, and that those on 1-year extension for reason of retirement based on a Non Imm O-A Visa are taking alternative roads to long-stay in Thailand without this insurance scam.

And luckily it is fairly simple to do so.

    >> I compiled a comprehensive guideline with all options/details to apply for or convert to a Non Imm O Visa, which does not require any thai IO-approved health-insurance.

Feel free to PM me if you like to receive a copy.

well it could not include the boom boom industry as that is all off the books.

Boom boom, bar fines, entertainment of the ladies, support for the sick buffalo or their family, tea money from entertainment venues to police etc.  all not included. Maybe another 5-10% of the total economy

Many Embassies now seem to have posted that O-A and O-X visa holders (and presumably people with re-entry permits for extensions based on those visas) can apply for COE but none I have seen seem to list non-O. People who have called and asked have report different responses from different countries. Seems to be an areas of confusion."

Ditto the German Thai Embassy in Berlin.

The Swiss Embassy in Basel explicitly excludes O - Visa on their website:

Remark: Holders of Non-Immigrant O (Retirement) who have received annual stay permit from Thai Immigration are NOT entitled to enter Thailand under Thailand's COVID-19 measures. If you wish to apply for Non-Immigrant O-A visa, please see more information at https://thaiembassy.ch/Content/Embassy/160.html

I would almost do this to get back “in” until the last part...

    Charter flight? <deleted>

What happened to my ME NON O?!!! Why a NEW visa?

I think this is oriented to Chinese as they can set up charters back and forth w local airlines quite easily.

    CORRECT!!!

The whole process has been designed for the Chinese. Only they have the low infection numbers and the organization and willing people to suffer through this procedure. It was tailormade for the Chinese elite living and working in Thailand, so they can get their relatives and friends from China in.

Of course, this is just speculation, no facts. But when looking at it this way, only 1.200 people per month starts to make sense.

The total daily intake on the STV is ~40 people (globally) - how many of those 40 people are going to be travelling from the same destination on the same flight? 1, 2? Which organisation is going to run a chartered flight for such a low number of people? Even if they did - who's paying for it?

For an international charter flight to be profitable you need at least 200 people. This means around 6 charter flights per months. Big question: who will be the countries who can organize domestic quarantine, tests etc. and have Corona under control? Answer: China and Taiwan.

The hidden plan is to bring in only those 2 nationalities. The ultra wealthy Chinese elite in Bangkok has won once again.

Forget about India, Middle East, US and Europe.

This seems like a different plan than the special tourist visa approved last week.  The plan the cabinet approved last week specifically required a 2 week quarantine in Thailand, and it also required pre-paying accommodation for the entire trip.

I have a feeling they have already realized that zero people will come here with the conditions of the original plan, so they are floating this new one with quarantine in their home country and proof of funds instead.

But then Thailand would lose all the money their hotels are making with state quarantine.
