  1. you got that right. why would anyone want any of these <deleted> beaches in thailand overrun with junk. issan is just right. build own place, put own pool in, that's all you need. the problem is going worldwide with the appropriation of public beach, many beaches limited, then the 'bivouac' goes up with endless crammed lines of loungers and umbrellas leaving nothing for others.

  3. Another symptom of total ineptness of the junta ..

They can’t even do a temperature reading correctly ..

I went at the beginning of month to local immigration.  She placed the therma pistol near my head and then read it, showed it to her compatriot, chuckled, did it again, repeat, shook the gun as if it was broke and did it a third time.  She gave up.

In the past week going to the supermarket 2 visits same day separated by about 2 hours in afternoon, my reading was 34.4C.  This indicates such a low temp that I should be suffering from hypothermia.  Again, pistol point was near head, maybe several inches AWAY.

None of this made sense.  Well, of course.  My 'temp' was the ambient outdoor air temp. @ that very location, in the shade.  Further, I had just walked about a mile in heat greater than this, full sun, with no hat, both visits.  This thermography digital should be reading the temp of my SKIN.  You need to place the head of the pointed end on your forehead.

And one wonders why they are so backward with immigration.  Dah!

'A forehead (temporal) scanner is usually 0.5°F (0.3°C) to 1°F (0.6°C) lower than an oral temperature.

' With a gentle stroke of the forehead it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. '

No one should have any concern about what is to be involving stays, visas, overstays et al. when Larry, Moe, & Curly Joe are in charge.  Just sit back and relax and enjoy the show.

  5. " Tracking is done via your phone, so you may think you have gotten away with it until that knock on your door comes ... "

I like this.  It’s funny to an older person.  In that they are trying to foist this upon american people. I don’t own a fone so no one has made provision for that.  I guess I’ll be turned back at the airport or forced to go to a duty free to buy one.  Or, just carry a defunct tablet, put the app, then self-delete. Fat chance!  NOT! .. better yet .. don’t come here!  Now there’s an idea!  I’ve always said if you make it difficult for me to Give You Money, essentially Being Ungrateful! then ..  I’ll vote with my feet.

It’ll never fly in u.s., considering we go to the supreme court over a religious minded baker being forced to make wedding cakes for gay couples and we fight over every angle being proposed such as in guns & the 30 million illegals sucking up our $.  A very different culture, we have.  We enjoy & fight endlessly for our freedoms.  So, if it’s freedom you want then you have to seek it out and at times go elsewhere.  This includes 'tracking'.

Another is, we just defy.  I think maybe, we may be the last country where we just say NO!  ..  other than lawless 3° world types south of our border or in africa, where defying or ignoring law is a national pastime.

So, if Thailand & the rest want to have these moron ideas, and they have been ongoing especially insofar the 1.5 million foreigners remaining in their country during this crisis, then fine by me.  I understand there are some with many vested interests in the place they live having established households and business and family.  That’s a tough one for them.  For others, like myself, I don’t fret & plan for the future.  I’ve traveled and adventured for decades and will return to those better, laid back places, sometimes lawless or with a past history of having been, as in South America.  If you want a great time in a beautiful country with women who will fall in your lap and are culturally more aligned and easier to communicate, with a very low cost of living and Tropical like here, then flee Thailand when you can finally go and look at Colombia.  Look around at other great places and spend your $ where the people are grateful and make it easy.  When you arrive Colombia you get automatic 90 days. Or, Europe.  The Europeans appear to be opening up faster than the rest.  When I leave Thailand it’ll be for good.  Couldn’t care less.

  6. The ¿question"? may be academic with consideration to another 'I heard'. Just several hours ago I had a talk with another farang specific to this very subject and he offered a letter he had received from a friend who lives in Chiangmai but is 'stuck' in Da Nang, VN.  The crux of the 'letter of transit from da nang' was that the word there is that starting 2 July Thailand will start offering only 2 types of visa, one a 30 day entry and traveler must exit Thailand, no extension, or another, a 90 day, 2-entry visa.  Further, writer bemoaned that he’d like to have long stay in Da Nang but that type of long stay is not available and would liked to have done it insofar as pollution in Chiangmai and was now bemoaning the same proposal, just outlined, for Thailand.  Letter writer expressly stated that there’d be only 2 visas offered from that date, proposed, and no others.  What I write here is all I know so I cannot answer any speculation nor have I any other info.

Here, here!  I so much agree with your very astute and worthwhile comments.  Besides the humourous comments yours is the only sober one.  To add to it, alcoholism, cancer from tobacco products, death from vaping, opiate addictions and overdose, obesity and ancillary issues associated with and abortion are just other forms of much needed eugenics.  If we didn’t have inferiors in societies offing themselves and unwanted crack-addicted fetuses, then much like life without pollinating but annoying flies, worldwide, mankind would perish.

  8.  I think they will make an announcement that the emergency decree will be phased out over a period of time before it ends (one month?). "

or maybe sooner ?  Just for FYI .. 2 days ago on Sunday afternoon the police came to my guest house.  I’m the only one here and have been for a month or so.  Not many remaining in nong khai.  So, landlord comes up my stairs and he usually never does that, says police need to speak with me.  They were .. "Your papers, please."  They said they were checking all foreigners documents/passports and then proceeded to take fotos of biometric page, visa, visa extension, and tourist white stub.  They said the governor wanted to know about all foreigners remaining.  I feigned disinterest and indifference, especially when they were wading thru all the stamps and visas that border guards worldwide stamp in no particular logical order.  Say nothing, do nothing.  After doing all this they then asked to see receipts from when I first got here.  Landlord fumbled thru his book and I reminded him what date and his response was "oh yeah," knowingly, since I travel in and out to Europe and he quickly understood to show latest entry instead of, for sure, confusing them.  Still fumbling, I told them the date, they accepted that, didn’t need to see receipt, left.  I watched them drive down the street, cross a main road and go to another, a hotel.  I talked to an acquaintance east of me by 350 meters, next day, and he said same thing happened to him, there.  Only him and three or four other remain on huge premises.

why they were doing this task I haven’t a clue.  I can only guess.

For the remainder of the 30 days, you only need your passport. However, if you have all of the needed documents, you will probably be able to apply for a further extension on the same day. This would save one trip to Immigration.

Good.  It does appear that it is differing office to office.  On another thread the writer went for second extension & got the full 30 days.  So, there you are.  Yet, on another thread is some dubious pronouncement ostensibly from some 'immigration' office, not signed, saying the reasons why reams of extraneous paperwork, fotos, and 'bring your owner' blah blah blah .. on and on.  I would recommend to any readers here to just ignore the questionable stuff, as just mentioned.  Further, why would immigration proffer a 'proposal' yet to be delineated and formalized, that would penalize one group of arrivals before March, and ostensibly give a clear road to those after. This alone should make anyone question the validity of the 'immigration' announcement as to ..  'why' they are doing this  .. and to be patient?  Nonsense, just use your heads .. ignore it .. and if you have the time before needed extension, just wait.  There have now been 2 seemingly easy, second extensions, quite believable. The first even showed a foto of what was posted that you needed, nothing extra except the embassy letter.

I went today and I was on a tourist 60, already used up my extension last month so I’ve had 90.

the only things I brought was

    passport

    photocopy of passport

photocopy of tourist visa and previous extension stamps

    1900 fee

1 passport photo (yes only one)

    uk embassy letter printed

The lady didn’t even say one word to me about any of the documents apart from sign all the pieces of paper.

they stamped me for 15 day’s , they want me to go back in 15 days and they will stamp me again for the other 15 days. So 30 in total. It’s a pointless exercise and it’s creating more foot traffic into their office during this pandemic but this is Thailand and the tourist industry is going to drop dramatically in the future after how they have dealt with this I imagine.

Mmmmmmm .. May I humbly ask what area of Thailand you went to this office?  The reason for my enquiry is because another poster says the bounty of 9 pieces of evidence is required in Thai locations in center of country but seemingly not Bangkok.  If you would feel comfortable naming location, fine, if not, I understand.  I’m way up northeast nong khai .. very quiet office .. thank you kindly

Which office did you extend at?

    - Visa support letter from embassy (original and copy)

I believe you, but it defies logic that if your 400 miles from bangkok and get your letter from embassy by email pdf, then they expect you to make a trip to bangkok embassy for original?

does anyone expect that if you called your embassy, and could actually speak to that particular office that they'd say "right-o, we'll have that in the post forthright, no worry."

they mean visa exempt, probably don't even know what they call it themselves. why would someone on a tourist visa after march 1st be going to immigration now. they would have the end of april/beginning of may until they have to get an extension.

You got it right on.  I came in feb 12° .. 2 mo. TV .. went early la migra for extension on mar 13° taking me to May 11°.  Your good description & my example I think shows the validity of what you say and how they looked at this thinking how they could just alleviate the crowds at oficina la migra, then hoping continuing attrition will take care of it.  Not.  Many on 30 day tourist exempt have left for 2 reasons : they never planned over Max 3 weeks holiday, the rest booked it home .. high-tailed it.

i agree.  but unless the need is there to get your extension right away, I am thinking that no one will need to point out the futility, especially if it’s true I need to bring an extra person with me to IO.  Their pronouncement helps about as many as they can count on their fingers and toes and when they see that the line of 3000 is still there .. as reported in one news story .. they’ll have to re-think this.  Nonetheless they are showing that they’re not very bright.

  14. Unfortunately your on the cusp.  Hard decision to make.  What was apparent at the moment of her saying to me, the explanation from her that they were "waiting on the word from above, everyone has the same problem, you are not alone" she then said I’d need 5 or 6 documents (otherwise.) I didn’t understand why she was telling me this and that was part of my 'ancillary questions' to the 2, man and woman immigration officers, and their continuing reply, "just wait, just wait." When that raised my eyebrows there was quick talk with my landlord and he repeated again to me, what she said about the word coming from high.  She also spoke some English.  It wasn’t until I got back to my place that I fully understood that they were really saving me angst and grief and extra work .. and maybe Baht.
