I just returned to Australia and have done the figures on returning next year. To comply with the current entry requirements the absolute minimum cost will be around 80,000 Baht if i can find a flight into Thailand for $1000.
I dont see anyone bothering to do that, particularly tourists or teachers. I will be handing my Permanent Residency book back after 15 yrs of paying through the nose to keep it, the wife has said enough.

Thanks UbonJoe. I received the RE Entry in April, flights cancelled 4 times and only made it back on Monday.
They way things are going here I dont think its going to be as easy as you claim. However I will keep an open mind.
I did see a brochure online saying extensions are ok, but I think the date of exit might unfairly punish people like me, as I had to return to care for my Mum, which I do every year on rotation with my other siblings.
I have written to the Thai Consulate in Sydney for clarification at any rate.
Im fairly confident they will have no idea and just say be in Thailand on due date.
Thanks again, cheers

I am trying to get definitive advice on the extension of Re Entry visas for a Permanent Resident, due to my home countries travel ban.
I have looked all over the web and found one brochure saying there in an amnesty on late returns, but when I questioned the immigration officials at the Airport on departure they were not aware of any amnesty.
I have written to the local Consulate in Sydney Australia for advice, as I am now in Australia caring for my ailing Mum.
Can anyone on Thai Visa direct me to some sound printed advice on this problem?
It would seem ludicrous that my PR should be lost for something out of my control.
I have had it for over 15 years and its not cheap to maintain, to lose it like this would be devastating for my wife, daughter and granddaughter who reside in Thailand.
Thanks in advance to any replies.

I did this in 2003/4 takes about 12 months. You need to get an exit visa every year if you want to leave Thailand. 5800 baht. No restrictions if you just want to stay. Except a 5 yearly alien entry in your alien book. Tbh after 15 yrs its been a y50/50 proposition for me. 200,000 not cheap these days

I have a Resident re-entry visa that expires in April.
I asked Immigration about extension and they said no.
Fortunately Aust govt said I can leave.
I'm just waiting until they allow self isolation which in my opinion is safer than the current setup, and cheaper.
Particularly as I have a taxi driver son and secure house.
