  1. As Lite Beer states correctly i'm not married & under i'm 50-when i first applied to Hull my reason for applying for non O (which i stated on the official form) was extended stay & to look for employment-could i not use the same criteria again to apply a second time?

You could but not in Asia. Only in UK.

So the UK is the only country in the world where a yearly Non-O will be released(for lets say visiting friends)? Thanks

As far as I know yes.

I think you can go to Australia and mail your passport to the Brisbane consulate for Thailand and get a new Non-O.

I had a friend who got a non-O that way. Another went to Perth and got it in person and got a non-O in a couple of days. These were older expats who couldn't meet the 800,000 B qualifications though and presented income declarations and or cash, I think.

How have you manged to stay in Thailand with no job and no visible means of support? Savings?

Lot of people buy fake visas on Khao San Road too!

Just depends on how badly you want to stay. If you had a fake visa, I wouldn't advise leaving the country. But that would be hard to do too, since you'd need to make a visa run every 90 days.

    Good Luck.

  2. I agree that คับข้องใจ would be the best term to display a typical Farng's frustration....as opposed to anger or showing your temper...that is the distinction that is important to a Thai. They will readily appreciate the term คับข้องใจ and perhaps you won't be type classified as a hot head.

I like Newt Nit. Easy for Americans to remember too. Newt Gingrich is a nitwit. e.g. Newt nit.

  3. Remember, for a retirement extension the rule is:

    800,000 in the bank

    or

    65,000 a month

    or

a combination of income and money in the bank totaling 800,000. When using the combined option the money doesn't have to be in the bank for 3 months.

Would that mean that if you had an income of 300,000 and 500,000 in the bank, then the 500,000 doesn't need to be in the bank for 3 months?

Yes. That is the way the rule is worded.

    (5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less

than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application

I was just turned away at Chiangmai Immigration because bank money hadn't been here 2 months, using combo method!

There's a lot of misinformation spread here. Better to check directly with Immigration people.

  4. 1. You want a one year extension of stay from Immigration. You are not interested in an OA visa as that is issued by a Thai Consulate in your home country.

    2. You can apply for extension of stay during the last 30 days of any non immigrant visa entry. You need to meet the 65k Embassy letter of income/pension or the 800k bank deposit w/letter held 3 months or a combination of 65k and bank account to meet 800k yearly requirement.

    3. You can use your current entry or make another before the 27th of November and extend at the end of that period. It is your permitted to stay that is extended so no need for an active visa.

Thanks for this useful information, Lopburi

  5. My Multiple Entry Non-immigrant visa will expire Nov. 27 and I'd like to switch to a straight retirement visa (O-A). Should I start working on this with immigration in October, or go out and get another 3 months Nov. 26 and then make the switch in February?

Will I get an extra 3 months, or will they (Immigration) say in February, your visa has expired so go out and get another Non-O?

I'd like to avoid the long trip from Chiang Mai to Penang, but then again I'd like the extra 3 months too.

Thanks for any info on this. :o

  6. I just had a successful visa run to Penang. I'm not married and don't have 800,000 B to qualify for the retirement visa, so I got a non-immigrant O visa, multi-entry 1-year visa.

I'm 64 with a small pension of about $10,000/year, a few thousand US dollars in a US bank and only 50,000 B at Thai Farmers here in Chiangmai. I presented my US consulate sworn proof of income, downloaded savings info on US account and my Thai Bank book. Paid 550 RM with a 50RM commission to the guys at NJ Book Centre on Chulia St.--the main drag in Georgetown. I stay for 18 RM at the nearby Oasis Hotel. It's kind of a dump but adequate for the 3-night stay I needed to get the train back to Thailand from Butterworth.

Oh, no letters from bank managers required, just the book and statements. I suppose you could pump up the balances a little and then withdraw the money for the trip too. But don't say I suggested that!

Mohammed told me "no problem" when I presented my paperwork and I got the fresh visa 2 days later good until Nov. 27, 2008. With a visa run at the end I'm good till '09.

    Tell me about happiness!

Also recommend the Ship restaurant for great steak/seafood dinners and not all that expensive by US standards. About $20 for prawns, steak, salad, corn on the cob, potatoes and a delicious 3 scoop chocolate sundae. Drank ice tea. Liquor, wine and beer are high there.

  9. I know this thread may not be really Thai Related ( mod’s please remove / move if you think so ) but ive been reading

The Visa section for some years now and get the general feeling that the Thai visa requirements are or seem to be

Getting more daunting and perplexing for Expats who only want to stay longer in Thailand weather retired, living with

Their Thai Partners, setting up a business or just want to live here.

I am from the UK and ive only lived in one another country (Spain) before coming to live here with my Thai

Wife, I am just now wondering if other Expats living in other country’s are finding their visa application

Situation any easier compared to Thailand, may be some feed back from forum members who may be living in other

Countries or who have lived in other countries may shed some light on my question …

Are the Visa requirements for us Expats here in Thailand really that bad ….. Compared to other countries..?

    Thanks ....

In SE Asia, Malaysia give 3 months on arrival for FREE! Just cross the border to Singapore or Thailand and come back and get another 3 moths FREE. Cambodia charges US $20 and then the same amount to extend for each month indefinitely. Laos and Vietnam are $$$.

    Don't know about other countries.

    Cheers :o:D :D

  10. Hello All,

how should I consider my chances on a scale from 1-10

to get another 1y multiple entry Non-O issued in Penang?

    Here are some facts:

The last 3 years my visa was extended by Suan Phlu due to work permits

    After that I got unemployed

I went to Penang last year and was issued a 1y multiple Non-O

    without any questions or problem.

Worked 3 month this year with work permit and a 1 year extension (Suan Phlu).

Lost my job due to company shut down.

My visa was still good and I could simply cross the border to receive another 3 month stamp

My son is Thai (14y) and I am 57 years old, not married to a Thai.

Unfortunately I do not have 800.000 Baht in my bank for the retirement visa

and I am not old enough to receive my pension.

I am holding an EU passport.

Shall I try Penang or fly to my home country in Europe?

    Thanks in advance.

I've heard Panang no longer offers the 1-year, multiple O visa, but Kuala Lumpur and Singapore still do. That's a lot shorter trip than going all the way back to Europe in the winter!

    Chok di :o
