Ok look lucky timing for me. I was due tomorrow.
I have been a little bit confused actually by Richard Barrow, he is talking a lot about people having already a first extension, or he his talking about the long term visa extension (1 year)...
Anyway, i feel lucky today.
My thought though for all those who have suffered from this madness.
Very lucky, you. I'd say buy a lottery ticket if the lottery wasn't cancelled. I was there yesterday with at least 1000 others, I left it until the last day. I was waiting for that announcement, but it had been internet gossip for weeks already, and i didn't want to risk it staying just a rumour

You got a 30 day, right? If so, a visa exemption. So they wouldn't ask about your financial situation. 60 day tourist visa you need proof of funds. I've never applied for anything else, but people will tell you there's a lot more you need to provide for retirement visa, marriage visa, etc.

It also means that if your visa expired on 26th March and you did not extend, you are forgive and will not have to pay fines. That is what Amnesty is, I just hope that is how the Thais understand it!
That's what i thought too. So on March 26th you had to see two weeks into the future to know they would announce it retroactively? The 1000s of people who showed up to extend between March 26th and now, or whenever it actually becomes official, didn't need to?
For example, if this announcement was the same but said april 26th, people planning to go within the next few weeks would not have to bother. Mentioning March 26th now makes no sense to me, like other people have said, if your visa expired March 26th, you're gone or have extended it already

Jeez- the ink isn't even dry on this, no official translation has been published, and the first post in knocks it.
No wonder 'they' have contempt for foreigners with attitudes like this.
Why not wait for a full translation before rubbishing it. I despair of people on here sometimes.
That sounds pretty cold. You have no sympathy for foreigners who have been hearing rumors like this for weeks, and are anxious to get details in order to stay above the law?

Looking like it's finally here, once put into law. So if someone is on a SETV/METV and already extended for 30 days before 26th march expiring 1st week of May, they will get an automatic extension. Is my understanding correct?
I thought it means that if your visa expired on march 27, you would get another 30 days, so until april 25. But that means you would have extended it on or before March 27, or have overstayed by two weeks already. That's why I'm confused, hopefully somebody can explain it

Arguing about whether it's easier to get a UK or Thai visa seems so pointless now. The issue is being forced to queue up with hundreds of people to cram into an office during a global pandemic, while at the same time the police are trying to encourage social distancing.
For the record, I got 60 day Thai tourist visa in February. I had to show proof of both inward and outward flights, as well as proof of being able to support myself, in the form of a copy of a foreign bank statement containing at least 20,000 baht. I also had to show proof of accommodation for not less than half of the 60 days, and that had to include the first two days. The guy beside me at the consulate wanted to move around and hadn't booked hotels yet. He was sent away despite having everything else in order

What is the significance of March 26? Announce a date two weeks in the past, meaning the 1000s of people who went to immigration since then, did so for no reason? I can't read Thai, but I must be missing something here

This new info is great news, I'm happy for the many people that won't have to experience what I did the other day. Contrary to the old saying, I would wish that on my worst enemy, but not for the other billions of people currently living on this planet.
I'm always trying to focus on the bright side of things, at least this way i didn't have to put much thought into a username to join this forum
