Home is where the heart is @Rotweiler
I go back to Vancouver once per year to visit family, but Thailand has been my home for nearly 20 yrs. Is it perfect? No. But the Canada I grew up in and still love has been slowly disappearing. I have had a few minor bad experiences/inconveniences in Thailand for sure, but for the most part it has been largely positive. If one gets to know their neighbours and build a local social network, it is easy sailing here. It is also safe IMO. But like any place, if one hangs around unsavoury types, expect unsavoury events to follow. IMHO, long-term expats have learned to take everything in stride and enjoy the positives and accept the negatives. The moaners that cry, "Back in my <insert country>, we do it this way..." reminds me exactly why I came here in the first place as a younger man: to experience a different way of life and living.

Check your receipt. There should be an EMS tracking # for that cost. I hope.

How do these planes flying out get here?
????
Pilots. Wings. Aviation fuel. Only cargo. No inbound passengers. According to Cdn Embassy (BKK) email as of 15 Apr 2020 several carriers still taking passengers out of Thailand (Lufthansa, ANA, KLM, EVA and Qatar). I believe Korean Air also operating though flight schedule has been reduced.

Germany has regular evacuation flights on Condor. Other EU countries will take any person from a member state. E.g. this morning there was Finnair. They took non Finns too. This old guy may not be looking for a flight but money.
May be someone can check out German embassy website/facebook for him. Embassy always has emergency no.
Lufthansa still operating out of BKK as well. This from Cdn Embassy as of 15 Apr 2020:
"Please note that for all of these transit countries, passengers will only be able to transit at the airport and NOT enter these countries.
DEPARTING THAILAND
One stop transit connection:
• Lufthansa: Bangkok – Frankfurt (Monday, Thursday, Saturday) / Frankfurt – Montreal 3X per week (Monday, Thursday, Saturday)
• Lufthansa/Air Canada: Bangkok – Frankfurt (Monday, Thursday, Saturday) / Frankfurt – Toronto Daily
• Lufthansa/Air Canada: Bangkok – Frankfurt (Monday, Thursday, Saturday) / Frankfurt – Montreal (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; Saturday)"
Though the email is geared towards Cdns looking to evacuate/re-patriate (and I snipped flights transiting thru Asia and the ME), I include this as evidence there is ample opportunity for said German pensioner to return to Germany.

Here's what they should do to people like this. Simply lock them all up in 1 small room with a toilet annexe and tell them not to leave for 14 days on punishment of imprisonment. I can pretty much guarantee if 18 people are locked in one room isolating for 14 days, they wont want to do it again
Or Suan Phlu IDC. Visited someone there nearly 20yrs ago. My best guess was there were about 40-50 ppl in that cage. No toilet annex except a stout wall for "privacy." It resembled more of a kennel for stray dogs.

Sticking to the OP: Trump isn't wrong in his assessment of the WHO. Disclaimer: I am not American or a Trump supporter. Just calling things as I see them. The WHO has done a grave disservice to citizens around the world by withholding information/parroting CCP propaganda. And before the mob attacks me, I implore everyone to research "Dr. Tederos" the Marxist-Leninist strongman of Ethiopia, now head of the WHO and his ties to the CCP. Stay home and stay safe everyone. The truth will prevail, as always. The question is at what human cost?

Poverty is cruel.
Indeed. So is stupidity. Both sadly seem to be abundant.

Rolled up to my local shop about an our ago to pick up my "order." They were doing brisk business. After loading my tray the vendor came to my window for payment and mentioned starting tomorrow they are only doing deliveries as they are attracting too much attention (there were about a 1/2 dozen locals congregating in front waiting to be served and many others who were quickly picking up their "orders" and buzzing off).
