For what its worth I really doubt this. Being outside Australia you might not see it but I think pensioners have more political clout than you give them credit for. A decision not to increase and A Current Affair and all the radio stations would be on the warpath. If liberals said no increase, and labour said keep the increase for example, I think it would be enough for labour would win.

If they were to limit increases they might use a  method similar to that they used ín 2015 where they changed the index to increase the pension from the higher of the CPI and Pensioner and Beneficiary Living Cost Index, and then benchmarked to average weekly earnings, to just the increase in CPI. That was aimed to save $450 million over 5 years.   As it happens wages haven't increased much so CPI increase has probably been pretty much as good. Haven't  got the figures though.

I think they might be more likely to change the age of eligibility which would affect future generations but not those currently getting it or those currently over 55. They might also tinker with the assets and income tests.

Correct and they have been doing exactly that for a long time.

When I compare the rules and issues over 10 years ago to those of today, the difference is astonishing and all are negative.

  2. Judging by the amount of medications and blood tests and scans that my parents both have (in 80s) then me think back home is way to go. I couldnt afford all those pills and tests if I had to pay for them - neither could they.  Subsidised medical care is back home - here would be very expensive and long trips to hospitals/clinics for scans and other tests. I reckon both would have been dead long ago if not for all the medications and stuff. The issue is when to leave and go home 75? 80? 85? 90? I guess if something happens that decision is made for you. But seems more often than not Expats get sick and cant leave - then too late. No matter where or when, my ashes will be in wife's village, she has a spot already for us both.

  3. Good stuff - thanks you. Facts and reason beat emotion in the end all the time.

WHO based their initial predictions on MERS/SARs with the infectious rates of Influenza. They got it wrong, but they did that for the right reasons.  But what is wrong is that they wont back down and admit they wrong. That is why bureaucrat must never be allowed to do this ever again. And that is what WHO are - medical people who have become bureaucrats - they are not in the field anymore - they are in the office - and they got it wrong but wont back down - claiming they might be wrong if they do. The only way to move economy forward is to force the WHO out - they wont go themselves.

Coronavirus pandemic: Covid-19 testing, death rates, and risk ...

Absolute rubbish - until they conduct full study the covid numbers are guesses - the flu numbers are well established over years of study.  Most people being tested and positive for cov are those unwell - most people dont get very sick. If you only counted people get get very sick from flu, then the death rates would be same.

I doubt Biden will win but who knows? he's getting lot's of rest at the moment so lots time to practise the debates. Things like which President he served under, which day it is and where his wife is sitting.

Biden is getting senile - the same thing started happening to my Mother. That he is still being pushed as the Dem person shows you who and what they are - about being in power and willing to do anything.

But get real, this is just a 'practice run' for 2024 when they chose a real candidate. Very few Pres. lose 2nd term election - election,   No point wasting good candidate now - Trump is certainty.

Thailand relies mainly on two big sectors, agriculture- and industrial production and tourism. The influx of short time tourists remain undented since the strong bath don´t affect so much for a fourtnights stay. And that´s what the Thai goverement is aiming for. The strong bath becomes more of a problem for long time stayers. The export should hurt with a strong bath but since Thailand is not a democracy the ruling class can keep wages low enough for export to still keep up and. The ones paying the price for this is of course growning numbers of working poors and expats on a fixed pension. The ruling families benifits from cheap travel abroad, cheap import of luxury goods and good value for foreign investments. In countries like Thailand the ruling families always secure a quick getaway from their country if the masses becomes unruly or they get outmaneuvered by competing couping forces (Taksin).

Good story - so true. One day the Thais will realise that they needed to support Taksin - but they were divided between red and yellow - now maybe they will learn who the real 'enemy' is - and it is not other Thais.

  8. THE CONTROVERSIAL EXPERIMENTS AND WUHAN LAB SUSPECTED OF STARTING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

"Tracing the origin of a new virus is not easy. It took researchers at the Wuhan Institute more than a decade to trace the 2002-2003 SARS virus to remote bat caves in Yunnan province. It's not surprising, then, that in early February, China's Academy for Military Medical Sciences "concluded that it was impossible for them to scientifically determine whether the Covid-19 outbreak was caused naturally or accidentally from a laboratory incident"

  9. Tara Reade’s Former Neighbor Says She Described the Assault in Detail in 1995.

"A woman who used to live next door to the former Senate staffer who has accused Joe Biden of sexual assault says that she remembers being told about details of the allegation in the mid-1990s."

  10. Where are the stories that will undo Biden - the sexual assault allegations? Why is the media and TV so quiet about it?

The Hypocrisy on Tara Reade Is a National Disgrace

"During the summer of 2018, with Brett Kavanaugh under the national spotlight, Biden was unequivocal in his demand that Americans must believe women as a matter of unwavering reflex. “For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally,” Biden argued, “you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real, whether or not she forgets facts, whether or not it’s been made worse or better over time.”

As Biden now argues, Tara Reade’s accusations should be “respectfully heard” and “rigorously vetted.”

  11. I wonder if after all this Covid political problems that the media and liberals are causing to Trump, that if he is re-elected in November that the media and the liberals will accept that the people have decided that they are wrong. Will they then take the next step to admit that they should really just accept the people's decision and let it go until 2024. That is what most of us conservatives did when Obama was in the Office - we accepted the decision - we didnt like it or him - but we accepted it.
