I believe I already posted this, but I got my check in the mail. I actually got the letter first saying I got a payment, and then a week later the actual check came. It was scheduled to mail on May 15, and came around the week of July 20. Hope everybody who is waiting for a check gets theirs. This is proof that checks do indeed get delivered and its not all a myth!

For those of you who haven't gotten your check yet - its coming. I got the notice letter saying I should get a check first around July 10 and then the actual check came a week later. I deposited it using my USbank mobile deposit feature by taking a picture of the front and back of the check.
-
Two days ago I received the letter saying I was my EIP has arrived. But that check hasn't arrived. I'm going to give is a week or two for the actual check to arrive before I call the IRS.

The IRS Get My Payment website said my check was mailed on May 15 to the address on file (here in Chiang Mai, Thailand). I have not received it yet.

Another week, another update. I was able to enter my direct deposit on the Get My Payment site on May 8, and it told me when I will receive confirmation of when it would be deposited. Next couple days, I check again, and it says I will now get a check mailed to the address on file on May 15. I haven't seen a direct deposit yet, so it looks like the IRS has definitely changed their mind about direct deposit for me and are sending me a check to my Thai address. I'll let you all know if I get it for those who are in the same situation as me.
Filed married joint and owed taxes, living here in Thailand w/ my American wife and kid.

In my case, I was able to enter my US bank direct deposit info, and then the next day the "Get My Payment" site said it would mail my check on 5/15. Its been over a week and still no direct deposit payment, so I'm just going to assume a check is actually coming here to my Thai address.

I was really surprised to find my $1200 check in my Bangkok mailbox today! Now I have to figure out how to deposit it.
Great update! At least there is hope for some of us, and really confirms that they will send a check overseas AND that we are still getting mail at this time.

For anyone with no progress on their $1200 stimulus payment, the IRS is now staffing the overseas taxpayer phone number (267-941-1000) with real people. They are helpful - spoke to someone and it turns out the IRS had truncated my (foreign) address to something totally nonsensical, which was why I could never access Get My Payment. That didn't stop them from mailing a check to this address, but they did outline a process where this check could be reissued to an address of my choice. I also asked about giving them US bank account info, but that window has closed.
Sorry that happened to you. My address on my 1040 is missing the Tambon since you can only add City and Province. Hope that still works.

Very disappointed that this bill seems written to line up the votes. Much to full of stuff any Republican would reject outright.

sorry, don't mean to quibble over semantics.
yes, records will show a check was mailed to you. the records might show it was not yet cashed. you'd have to ask a tax expert on how that would affect claiming the rebate/refund (or whatever it's called) on next year's tax return. what sort of hoops will you have to jump through to "prove" you didn't receive the check?
hopefully them other posters are correct, and this is just a glitch. i'll report back if and when a direct deposit shows up in my checking account. good luck!
Our tax return is built on an honor system. We can report it how we think is correct, but that doesn't mean that the IRS won't define sending a check to you and you not cashing it as you not being paid. If they do define merely sending a check as you being paid, and you get audited, you will have to prove that you didn't "get" the check. If you have the check on your desk, and you didn't deposit the check, I don't think that would fly. Its confusing, but I feel like they purposely make it vague. Either way, if you have a US bank account, most banks now have mobile deposit available on the phone app. Banks have also increased the limit for government issued checks as well. Just last week, our US bank increased our mobile deposit amounts from $2500 to $4000. As these stimulus checks can be $3900 w/ married couple and 3 dependents, I think its pretty obvious the banks have prepared themselves in receiving these funds.

As far as the possible next round of checks, this is from Yahoo News........................
Eligibility for the $2,000 Payments
Eligibility for the $2,000 monthly payments under the Emergency Money for the People Act would be much broader than for the current CARES Act stimulus payments. To qualify for the monthly payments under the bill, you would have to be:
-
A citizen or resident of the U.S.; and
-
At least 16 years old as of January 1, 2020.
The citizenship or residency requirement would be satisfied if a person is physically present in the U.S. continuously since January 27, 2020, and stays in the U.S. throughout the payment period. (A person would fail to maintain a continuous presence in the U.S. if he or she left the country for any period exceeding 90 days or for any periods, in the aggregate, exceeding 180 days.)..........https://www.yahoo.com/news/going-second-round-stimulus-checks-114253578.html
This has been kicked around for a month now. Likelihood of being passes as is stated in article is very very low. However, most representatives (both sides) do think the $1200 is not enough. $2000 per month is a big reach by the DFL from both the Senate and House. I personally think, for any plan to pass, its going to get cut down to something like $1000 a month/3 months max, and $500 per dependent up to 3.

That was the message I got, before the direct deposit to my bank happened.
Thanks! This is me too. I successfully entered my direct deposit information on 5/8 and it said it would give me further details of when it would send my deposit, but then a day later it said it was now going to mail my check on 3/15 to the address I had on file (Thai address). From what you are reporting, maybe this message screen is just a placeholder because this website is not real intuitive. Thats good new. I'll keep everybody posted if it does appear in my US bank account or not. Thanks again all!

Like SilverBlue, the GetMyPayment portal finally worked for me today. The IRS stated that they sent a check out May 1st. I am not sure to where. I think this was activated by a tax return and not my social security. Maybe I will get it this month.
If you used your Thai address, keep up posted if it arrives in Thailand. Anyway, good to know atleast.

QUESTION: OK, let's say we don't get a check. We go back to America in x-amount of years. Can we still get the money then?
or will this check expire? i have a feeling it will expire in due time..
If you do your taxes online, you can claim it on your 2020 return in 2021.

Well, here's some good new for those of you still trying to access the Get My Payment website. I was able to finally get in with my Thai address today and update my direct deposit information. I entered the same address I always entered since the system opened, so my information probably wasn't in the system until today. I filed my income taxes with Turbo Tax on March 30. I used all CAPS and my address started like this 224/104. So for those of you still wondering if its ever going to work, mine did, so maybe yours will too. Soon.
-
Thanks all for the replies. I submitted my taxes with payment on March 30, so I guess I'm going to have to wait a while. Looks like some of you have had success entering your Thai address in, so I guess my info is just not in yet. I'll keep checking when I remember, but am not holding out for it. At worst, I'll just claim it in next year's return, or maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised to get it in the mail.

Up until they did the maintenance on their site, my Thai address worked fine for a couple of weeks.
Now, it does not work and I tried entering many different ways.
If anyone receives their stimulus check by mail here in Thailand, please let us know.
Were you able to change your direct deposit information or are they sending you a check?
Also, did you write out the entire house number with street name and everything, or just the house number? Do address like 35/202 work? Or do I have to write in 35202? Any information without actually giving us your address would be great. Thanks!

I am expecting a package through USPS in the next couple days. The office let my buddy send one, so I expect it to get here. He said that USPS would not even mail it if they saw shipping was blocked. I don't know if its automatically flagged or not.
Anyway, yes, I'll be on the lookout for a mailed check to my Thai address since that's what's on both my 2018 and 2019 return. I'll report here if I get it.

Just an update (5.1.2020) for those of you who are in the same situation as I am. I definitely qualify for the stimulus, have an American wife and 3 kids. We paid taxes in both 2018 and 2019 so the IRS doesn't have our direct deposit information to our US bank. Our identifying information from our 1040 forms (SS#, DOB, Address) still do not match what's on file with the IRS. Not sure if they will mail our check overseas, or how it will get here since I presume our address is the culprit for not matching. Will let you all know if that check does arrive.

A foreign address does work, but you only enter your street address and no tambon or amphur info. Also, do not use commas between your street address and no city as well.
Hope this helps.
Did your Thai address work? I have entered mine like you said, and its still saying my information does not match.

I wouldn't also mind if a check is coming to me when I'm in the US physically to receive it. But if one is not on US soil, ie expats obviously, then it's another hassle to a) make sure the check has securedly arrived and b) get it cashed/deposited somehow.
I have on my 1040 my Thai address, and its not completely correct as there was no place to enter the Tambon on the 1040 (everything else is correct though). I'll be crossing my fingers that it will get here. I would prefer it was deposited in America, but oh well.
If nothing else, I'll just have to claim it in 2020 with my 2019 tax return.
-
It was probably mailed, but that doesn't make sense since they said checks wouldn't get mailed out at the soonest until next week.

OK, well no luck still. I have tried 6 different new ways entering my address on the "Get my Payment" site (including my spouse's SS and DOB). I don't think foreign addresses are going to work. However see this IRS page for a couple reassuring "FAQ" answers:
https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center#receiving
A9. Payments will be made throughout the rest of 2020. If you don’t receive a Payment this year, you can also claim it by filing a tax return for 2020 next year.
And this one...
Q31. As a U.S. citizen living abroad, am I entitled to a Payment?
A31. Yes, U.S. citizens living outside the country are eligible for the Payment. Anyone eligible to file Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR is an eligible person if they have a valid SSN and can’t be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer. Nonresident aliens who file or would file Form 1040-NR or Form 1040-NR-EZ are not eligible for the Payment.

I have tried several times as well using the "Get My Payment" site and it doesn't work yet. I entered with exact information on my 1040 and have not been able to get past the first page. It says my information does not match what is on file. So I was reading on some forums at home as well, if you filed married jointly with your American wife, you can also try her information as well (effectively giving you 6 attempts).
I talked to a TurboTax CPA, and they said if your address on file is foreign, they will send to the foreign address. Thats what they did in 2008 as well for the Bush stimulus checks.
I'll let you all know the results of my attempts.

Can't be too sure about the second EIP check. Right now, nobody can come to an agreement on this bill.
