  1. I'm now working with a Non-Immigrant B visa, but I'm planning on going to learn scuba diving some place down south, and they claim they can help me obtain a Non-Immigrant Education visa.

Would it be possible to change my visa type while still in thailand?

or will I have to leave the country and go to a consulate?

thanks for reading! anyone with any info would be much appreciated!

    peace~

  2. That was not too clear. What I meant was being taught Thai language IN Thai by a Thai lecturer in the Thai side of the university, NOT a course set up for English speakers. Then you would definately learn a lot, and for a lot less money.

very interesting idea...i might check that out! thanks for the reply mate.

  3. Hi Lithobid!

I've just found your forum posts about your studying and class notes at Payap. Excellent stuff!

I am also thinking about studying there in the near future, and now I'm looking for some feedback from previous students, to help me with my decision.

how was your experience studying in the intensive Thai program?

do you feel it progressed your Thai language ability effectively?

thanks in advance for any feedback!

    Cheers!

    Bo

  4. Hello Everyone!

I've been searching online to find opportunities to study the Thai language at a university here in Thailand.

So far I've found 3 options.

    1. Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok (EXPENSIVE!!!)

    2. Chiang Mai University (They have yet to e-mail me back with details)

and 3. Payap University in Chiang Mai.

This third option looks rather worth it, and seems like something i would be able to afford as well.

I was wondering if anybody here has either done this program at Payap themselves, or knows of anyone who has done it.

1.If so, did you or that person have a valuable learning experience while studying?

    2. Also, if any, what are the ups and downs of studying in that specific program?

I have been living in Thailand nearly 2 and a half years, and my spoken Thai is at what I would consider a high intermediate-to low advanced level.

So I'm also wondering whether this course would improve my Thai Language skills, or simply reinforce what I already know.

any feedback and information would be much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Bo

  5. hello everyone. i will be in thailand by november 15th. I have been trying to ask for a letter from the thai organization i will be working with, but i have not heard from them yet. If i enter thailand on a visa on arrival 30-day visa, will it be possible to go to Laos or malaysia to apply for a non immigrant o visa? by then i will have my letter of invitation for the thai government along with my teaching credentials as a volunteer. does anyone think i'll have a chance? thanks! :o

  6. hello all. I am currently in Lao on a visa run. I have just finished up the last remaining days of my non-immigrant O 3 month visa (single entry) and plan to stay in Laos for about 2 weeks. I know now I should have gone to an immigration office somewhere in thailand to try an extend my nonimmigrant o visa to a 1 year multiple entry, but for opne reason or another, this didn't end up happening. so anyways, i plan on traveling back to thailand on december 1st, and now i do not think it is possible to aquire another long term visa without getting a letter from my NGO. I have tried emailing them but i am not even sure if their letter will help with all the new visa requirements that have just been made. is my only option then to get a 30 day tourist visa or what? because i plan to be volunteering teaching english for the next 3 months... anyways, any suggestions are very much appreciated! thank you very much! peace and safe travels...

  7. hello... i am currently in thailand in the small village of ban nakhor, in the province of ubon ratchathani in the northeast... i am planning to stay for 6 months working as a volunteer teaching english in some of the schools and helping to work in the ricefields. But i've realized that when i applied for my visa in america i only got the non-immigrant education single entry visa. so i have apply for another visa before november 27th. Does anyone know if there is a way other than having to go all the way to bangkok to get a new visa? any suggestions about ways of acquiring a new visa would be much appreciated!! thanks!

  8. Possibly not Brit. But likely you are correct. He could TRY to get a non-imm-ED Multi entry instead of his current 3 month, this could be helped along if his dates for arriving and finishing the volunteer program extended past thhe 90 day mark. Failing that he COULD ask the abbot at the temple he studied at to help with an extention. Probably won't happen but it IS possible. Likely wouldn't cover him for a year though.

I did my first 2 years in Thailand on legit non-ed visas

thanks for the advice jd... so in your first 2 years, you say you were able to stay with your multiple entry education visa? and is it fairly easy to extend visas? sorry, i'm new at this, this will be my first extended stay in thailand... i eventually want to live there, anyways, thanks!

  9. Hello all! My name is Bo Collins and I'm 19 years old. I just recently became a member of this forum. Starting September 1, 2006 I will be working with an organization in Thailand called Greenway where i will be teaching english to school children and buddhist monks, and perhaps get to participate in working in the ricefields. My program lasts 3 months, afterwhich, i'm planning on exploring thailand on my own time, but ama bit unsure as to the legal issues regarding my visa extensions and such. Anyways, I currently have a 3 month visa for education purposes... I am hoping to stay in thailand for atleast a year without having to leave the country multiple times. what would someone recommend i do after this program is over, because I want to travel around thailand and study with buddhist monks for a couple of months and really immerse myself into the roots of the thai culture. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!! Peace and Love! :o
