I shot a series there a few months ago, but returned with the drone to get the full perspective, as it really is a sprawling location. There are 45 numbered buildings that look to have been completed, with the foundations of a dozen or so more left when the project was abandoned. The full series is here. I also have video footage but have yet to upload it anywhere.
I have been to this place a few days ago. I published a YouTube video (here) and posted something about it on Reddit, and I had an interesting comment from some Thai guy, who said: <<I think this is one of the “Baan Eua-Arthorn" (literally home with care) which is government's housing project for the poor. You can see finished one here. You can read more about Baan Eua-Arthorn here.>>
So, as I understand after some fast reading, these are government projects for low income people, that did not fit the needs of low income people who did not wish to live there, leading to a waste of government money.
This would explain that these buildings appear newer than the 1997 crisis period.
It also explains a strange configuration of the apartments inside the building, which have opening (windows) towards the central corridor: as the low income people supposed to live here cannot afford A/C, this help having well ventilated rooms.

What used to be the Palm Street Place strip mall, Bangkok (yes, I eventually escaped from the prison-island named Phuket and made it to Bangkok ????).
Some motorbike-taxi driver came to me, telling me the place was not safe, was to be demolished, and that he would call the police if I stayed. I don't know if he just considered himself sort of owner of the abandoned place, or if he was mandated by the real owners to watch the place.
I had seen 90% of the (small) place so I just left.

New World Mall
I recently entered through the basement, and as I didn't have my diving equipment, I eventually gave up going farther...
(more seriously, I think I saw the way to do some climbing and enter the higher levels, but did not fell like doing it, alone and with some cumbersome equipment)

Phuket abandoned resorts tour, #3.
As Phuket is still in prison-island mode, this is the best subject I can cover now...
Obviously this one hasn't been shown here yet. 3 small buildings around a small body of water, and 4 big buildings, more and more reclaimed by the jungle.
Not a particularly famous spot, nor particularly easy to find. Note the interesting bridge made of wood pallets and old doors and planks ????.
Une fois n'est pas coutume, real photos, not snaps from video. YouTube video to be published, just need to do the editing.

More photos from the "other" abandoned resort in Phuket, but this time using a drone (newly acquired and... registered ????).
Not very original, but I am stuck now with what I can find in Phuket (the island is still cut off from mainland...).
The video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/2_O-rSoYkt4

The other big abandoned resort in Phuket. This time, nothing related with the tsunami, as it is located on the other side of the island.
This place is much less known than the one from the previous post, and not as easy to find and to access. You have to go to the end of a remote, very steep small road, and I ended up there one day out of pure luck.

Hello,
First post here for me. BeyondFred, because my name is Fred, and I have a YouTube channel called "Beyond Beaten Tracks", dedicated to places where most people won't go, mostly underground and urbex:

Don't expect too much, I started this not so long ago ????
The photos below are snapshots from my videos.
This is a well known site, an abandoned resort in Phuket. It has be shown here already (post #53). But the interesting thing is that, two years later, the metallic structures of the roof seem to have disappeared -- maybe some aliens lifted it using their UFO?... ????

Kickstart, Samsemsam, thank you for the comments and the extra info.
The Tucksin point, if verified, is a noteworthy one...
