  1. Good point mellow1. Maybe then LOS will have to review its policies if it doesn't like it. But doubtful.

Here is a list of the jobs that are not open to foriegners in Thailand, though I didn't see chef's on it, unless I missed it. Either way the list is restrictive.

  2. Not quite, UG.

    Just looking for a debate.

I'm sure there are multiple perspectives for the topic.

Why is it that a debate is a debate, until Israelis are involved, then anyone who takes the other side view is labelled an anti- semite?

And racist? If you're implying I am, I find that a bit premature of an assumption.

A fact is a fact, and maybe 'nationalistic' is the better euphimism for this policy..

  3. There are at least 3 foriegner run real estate places in town now.

Are they responsible for inflating prices? To gain a bigger fee?

I have to say i believe so.

Without mentioning any particular site, there was one that featured what looks like one of those shacks the rice farmers keep at the edge of a paddy, for rent at 5000 baht per month!

If all these property and real estate folks keep telling owners they can get more, they've falsley raised their hopes and inflate a market.

They do provide a good service, they can be helpful for finding places, but the prices need to be realistic.

Especially with land purchase prices. They are absolutely absurd relatively speaking. Million baht for a rai.

  4. I'll be building a 2 story home in Chang Rai, that has a lot of sliding glass doors and windows to take in me view.

Is it a real security risk? I mean do burglars here tend to break windows to get in?

Other than putting ugly prison gates and bars, how else can i keep protected?

  5. dictionary says FUSS: 1. To trouble or worry over trifles.

so in actuality you are the FUSS, chiang rai guy, being that you are troubled and worrying over the definition of said word.

  6. You can;t beat the gut feeling you get from visiting a place firsthand and spending a few days talking face to face with locals and the westerners living there.

Sorry but i find it strange that youd consider retiring to a place youve never visited, and then upon a visit to thailand you cant check out both places because youre too busy in krabi and phuket?

Its like ordering a mail-order bride... oops, sorry guys here that have! no offense!

  7. For fun, nothing beats melting a tub of butter in a microwave oven, and seeing if you can tweeze your eyebrows before the body of butter completely melts. Also fun is measuring elastic bands and recording thier data on an traditional index cards.

  8. The food was good, and the owner seemed like a fair enough fellow, but his missus there must have thought I didn't speak thai, and for the full hour i was there she was on and on with her girlfriend talking rubbish about every other girl in town, the girlfriends of other farangs, etc. A right gossip hag! It was like listening to a Thai soap opera, but bloody worse! And the whole time she was looking up and down MY missus thinking God knows what.

Last time I spend me pension there!

Dear Nigel, 'gossip' in Chiang Rai may well be worth a topic in this forum, but as soon as persons are mentioned or clear indications are given who is meant there is a risc that the discussion in itself comes close to gossip as well.

So is this is something to talk about, then in general terms please.

    Limbo
