  1. You are posting in the wrong forum but will move for you. And believe you must be talking about immigrant visa issue rather than tourist visa which you can obtain directly from the Embassy. You can not apply in Thailand unless you have lived here for a year I believe is the current policy. You have to make application for approval to issue a visa from whatever they call themselves this week - from the regional office service your state. They then advise you/Embassy of approval and you can then contact Embassy for visa issue. It take a few months to a year or more depending on office you have to use. So the question becomes where did you submit your application and do you have receipts?

Thank you for moving me to the correct forum. Sorry my post is somewhat confusing. I am talking about a immigrant visa for my Thai wife to enter the United States. I have an O visa based on marriage and have been in Thailand 1 year in just a few more days. The quote from the lady in Homeland Security was made in December 2007. But mainly I have been wondering if other folks have been getting the same run around that I have been getting from the US Embassy & Homeland Security. I have no luck in getting any information from them regarding the status of my wife's petition since mailing in the packet. The packet was mailed to the US Embassy in Bangkok to the address they providede us. But never heard a word from them to this day.

  2. I was wondering if any American guys out there have had any problems with the Embassy regarding a Visa for the wife.

I submitted my petition last December and have yet have not received one word back from them. I went to the Embassy twice and homeland security twice. They would tell me nothing. Not even if they recieved my petition. I was given a phone number to call, which I did several times and left my number but never received a call back. I tired e-mailing the embassy and received a msg back telling me to mail Homeland security in Bangkok, which I did, they then told me to mail to Homeland security in the States, which I did. They asked for a case number. I told them I have never received one, so they sent me back to Bangkok Embassy and went throungh the whole round trip twice more. To this day I still know nothing about my case. Could it be just me or do they give this kind of service to others as well? Maybe I did something wrong but they never said so. Also the lady in homeland security said no visa will be approved unless I have been in Thailand for one year with no breaks. Has anyone heard of this rule and if so does making a visa run count as leaving the country in this circumstance? Sorry to make this so long but hopefuuly someone can shed some light on this for me.

  3. I have a 3 entry tourist and went to Nong Kai just before the first 60 days expired and asked for the usual 30 day extension. I was refused, but was told they would give me a 7 day extension for 1900bt. I decided to forget the extension and just go across the border and return for 1500bt. Later I was told by another officer from Nong Kai that the guy just wanted a little tea money. Anyone else run across that problem at Nong Kai?

  4. I bought many bottles of vitamins with me when I arrived in Thailand. No problems with customs. Last month I had a large box full of vitamins sent to me. They spent 10 days in Bangkok and 9 days in Udon before they let me know to come to the post office and pick up my box, and to bring along 500bt for tax.

  5. (This thread about ladyboys counted already 13.208 visitors.

I noticed that threads about sex are most popular in this form, but that so many people are thrilled by ladyboys I didn't know. It makes me curious.)

    Limbo,

Very simple. Most westerners have never seen a real LadyBoy and are curious.

I had heard of them but was shocked when I saw how much they looked like real women. In many cases much better. I never believed though that I could ever be fooled by one and would surely know the difference. One proved me wrong. So I no longer rely on my judgement. I just ask them outright. Never had one get mad or insulted (yet). They usually just smile and say yes. Someone asked if there is competion between the Ladyboys and the regular girls. Yes there is, in many cases.

The ladyboys often get many of the customers because they are so outgoing. They are quick to meet you at the door with the big smile. But at the same time, many of the ladyboys have friends among the girls too. While ladyboys are not my style, I have no problem with buying one a beer and chating for awhile. Most that I have met are friendly and have a good sense of humor.

  6. Simba,

I go along with unbiasedbob. I opened an account at Bangkok Bank with nothing but a 30 day entry stamp in my passport. They also offered me a Visa Card, which I foolishly turned down. If you decide on this bank, I would suggest that you also apply for their Bualuang Card. Especially if you plan to keep the account after you leave Thailand. With this card you can do internet banking with them.

Without it all business must be conducted within Thailand, in person. They will not send you a statement or give you information about your account over the phone. You can not even apply for this card once you leave Thailand. At least this has been my experience. Someone else may have some further information to add.

  7. Sorry about your bad luck. You let your heart get the better of your brain. Never let your guard down no matter if they're pretty or nice. This is what they do for a living, and some farangs provide them with a very good living. This has happened to most of us at one time or another. Live & learn.

  8. Simon, with all the hours you work you might not be around come retirement time.

When do you have time to enjoy yourself? Life is short enough. I have many hobbies and little projects to keep me busy. But for me, retirement means freedom. I get get up as early or as late as I wish. Go or come when I want.

I don't have to answer to anyone. No longer have to worry about a boss expecting everyone to kiss his butt. I can lay around and watch TV all day or go fishing, swimming or just travel around. I get a steady tax free check every month. Time is not that important any longer. The only time I check the time is to see if it's lunch time. :o Of course I should add that I don't have a wife to tie me down either. I had the chance to retire at 37 but blew it.

    Always regretted it.

  9. Would anyone know Gary Berg? He is a good friend of my cousin and he has lost touch with him for about a year. He was in Bangkok the last time he was heard from. If anyone knows him, please have him get in touch with me. Thanks.

  10. Dondi, don't suppose you could let us know who turned you down? Wouldn't want to use those hotels. I have never checked in with a lady and have never had a problem with a Thai lady who came for a visit. If they're with me when I'm going to my room we just walk in. If they stop by alone the front desk calls me and asks if it's ok for them to come up. Never any kind of problem using several hotels.

    Hope you have better luck.
