Let's pretend the question is real.

Is it really racist to think twice who you want in your apartment and building?

I live in a building with people from all over the world (at least pre Covid times). And most of the time all is fine.

We always had a restaurant in the ground floor, mostly Thai food.

A few years ago the Thai restaurant was closed. And then a black guy rented the place. And then it became an unofficial disco. Many (only) black people in a relative small room, loud music, open till late. There is a public toilet in the building maybe 30m away. Sometimes in the early morning there was toilet paper on the floor between the toilet and our new disco.

I think it took a couple of month to get rid of the new disco. I guess latest since then lots of people in the building would think twice if they would rent any place to a black guy.

Now is that racist? Or realistic? Or maybe just cautious?

And yes, I know there are some nice black people out there. I know some of them and I wouldn't mind if they were my neighbors.

In the 14 years I've lived here there have been a number of white farangs arrested for child pornography and pedophilia. What if Thailand decided to ban all western farangs. "Now is that racist? Or realistic? Or maybe just cautious?" And yes I know there are good White people there. I wouldn't even mind having some of them for neighbors.

  2. I came to Udon on Tuesday, highway 2 was not bad only saw some flooding before Nakon Ratchima but the Nakon Ratchima bypass road was 2 feet deep for about 2 km's and took 1/2 hour to get through those 2 km's. I plan on going back on Saturday keep me posted on how the trip went for you on Friday. Do you do the bypass or go through town.

    I'll keep you posted.

I normally go the bypass way but I saw on the news that it was safer to go through Korat.

I haven't seen any news on that particular stretch of road in the last couple of days so am assuming it will be OK??

From what I've read on the local forum and talking to friends the bypass is a safer bet at the moment. Coming through town on the 2 is limited to high profile vehicles while cars can get through on the bypass. The water has been quite deep between the Pegasus hotel just past Mackro and the main junction in Joho. From what I've heard currently the water's max depth on the bypass is a foot deep or 25cm by the new court house.

  3. In Korat it started raining around 4:00 am and rained fairly steady at my house all through the morning. The official rain tally for Korat is 45mm through 10:00 am but I'm guessing we got slightly more than that as we have had a few more moderate showers over the last 3 hours. Just in a nick of time as I had the sprinklers on all day yesterday. Let's hope this is the beginning of a trend. :)

  4. I bought a PCX two weeks ago and have to say I am very impressed. For those who do not like it's appearance well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have received many compliments about it both from expats and Thais. I had been driving a 3 month old Wave and it's night and day better.

I do have a question. As the motor shuts down during the idle stop the lights remain on which of course is logical particularly at night but what affect will this have on the life of the battery? Sometimes I'm stopped for several minutes at certain intersections. I know battery technology like everything else is improving but was just curious to know if the battery fully recharges as you are driving?

  5. Near Korat there are 4 golf courses: Suranaree (Army), 9 holes and dual pricing, Rooks, 18 holes and dual pricing, Tiger (Airforce), 9 holes and no dual pricing, Voyage, 18 holes and no dual pricing

The dual pricing at Suranaree (Army) has been eliminated (well at least for now).

  6. rather than worry about the whether it is plastic or stainless - you should be more concerned about the filtration system and there is really only one system that should be used.

most plastic is made based on its intended use (all plastic has a code - number - which describes its compound and stainless will not corrode

sorry - but you need to to do some legwork here and figure it out - not too difficult.

hint - think about what happens when fish move from one water source (SEA/FRESH) to another water source (fresh/salt)

I've already researched the filtration system and decided what I need to filter from the water. My question was with regards to fiberglass vs stainless steel. I know high quality ss will not corrode but on some other threads people have reported having ss water tanks corrode and leak. On the Mazuma ss filters there are several (I believe 5 or 6) valves which have to be opened and closed in various combinations to filter or backwash. On the fiberglass filter by Water King there is a single valve on top which is set to either filter or backwash. Quite simple, I was wondering whether there were any down sides to a fiberglass tank. Since in your opinion there is only one filtration system that should be used, perhaps you would would like to enlighten us.

  7. I am about to purchase a water filter to filter the incoming moo ban water to the house. I would like to know if there are any functional or other differences between fiberglass filters and the stainless steel ones. I am leaning toward fiberglass as I would worry a little about the stainless rusting depending on the water content and the quality of the steel.

  8. I need to buy a water tank for the new house. I wanted to get some opinions about the pros and cons of the construction material of the water tanks. Which material is best or does it matter?

  9. Thanks for all the reply's. I found out the problem. When I went to the bank I told the bank rep I wanted to transfer the US equivalent of 32,000 bt which she told me was something like $864.00 US which I knew was in the ball park. After reading some of the earlier posts I decided to recheck my paperwork and found that the amount transferred was actually $782.00. I verified this by logging onto my account. Not sure why the mixup with my bank occurred but we are all human. I am glad to have this resolved simply. I appreciate all the attempts to help me.

  10. I am purchasing a home for future retirement in a liitle more than a year. I would like to know the best way to transfer larger amounts of money like say 500,000 bt. I transfered a smaller amount of 32,000 bt and my g/f account was only credited for 28,700 bt. I transferred money from USA and my bank charged 45.00 US and apparently her bank deducted almost 10%. I am sure there has to be a way around paying 10% to the Thai bank which really seems excessive.
