    Goes to show how ineffective some of those inserts can be I suppose. Or maybe it's the app on your phone? I've just ordered a set of inserts that I'm hoping will tone down the bark o' me Zards -- they're the racing version without db killer. I still want to be able to snap my wrist and wakeup inattentive drivers when needed, but I certainly don't want to annoy the likes of Pist-on Bloke should he happen to be on the sidewalk in town while I'm passing by.

    Yeah, we get that Pist-on Broke (but seriously, you're starting to sound like a broken record) ... we get that you hate loud exhausts with a passion but they probably annoy you more than most. I'd really like to see you harp on about something you like with a passion.

    More so about making noise, and the greater part of that crowd are going to be younger testosterone-driven knuckle-heads. The part you're missing is that apart from the "hey, look at me" bunch, there are the enthusiasts who enjoy tweaking their machines to perform better. And part of that necessitates a free-flowing exhaust, which entails more noise from the tailpipe. It's not done to annoy anyone. In fact, if you think about it, the decibels arrive and depart rather quickly. Unless you're prone to keeping pace by following. In which case one has to ask, do you or do you not want to prolong that sound?

    Right, that's me off me soapbox. Now where's that derby?

  4. Thanks for replies and insights. Yes, optimal scenario would see my gear coming as baggage, but as mentioned, restrictive flight measures means less inbound traffic.

     

    I'm already kitted-up with weather appropriate gear bought locally. My not-so-near but terribly dear, leathers would be for late night excursions during those rare times of year when it can get a bit nippy in Southeast Asia.

     

    Bringing in new bits and bobs would be my primary focus, so tax and duty is the quantifiable unit of measure I'm interested in. My leathers can wait. What's a pair mini LED signals going get hit with? Is that a different rate than say, a custom fuel cap, or a tail-tidy? Is everything motorcycle a flat rate ... and if motorcycle doesn't figure in the description? A light is light -- does it matter what it goes on? Flat rate or lumpy descriptors ... 

  5. How are parts and accessories treated when importing to Thailand? I expect parcels are subject to inspection, and applicable duties and tax are levied prior to delivery to home address. Is there a set rate for motorcycle parts? How are accessories treated, say for instance, clothing / riding gear? What about if it's used gear (I'd like to ship my leathers, boots, etc. to here)? Are there "creative" ways to bring in new or used bits and bobs? Is the process arbitrary or do the custom's agents follow international HS codes?

     

    Appreciate any comments from those who have experience in this area.

    Are you sure that they actually do the service according to the owner's manual?

    From my experience with Honda dealers, if you would just drop of your bike and tell them to do a service, all they would do is an oil change and then consider it done. I wouldn't be too surprised if for example they never changed the spark plug.

     

    Good point re: service ... I'll have to do a closer inspection of receipts. It gets a tad confusing when there's four scooters kicking around here and they're all going to the same dealership. I never pay much attention to which one is getting what done at what time ... I just pay and drive away.

  7. What about the hydgroscopic properties of ethanol fuel? Say the bike was sitting for a week or so with less than half a tank of fuel. What with the high humidity, is it possible the moisture content could be affecting the performance. I put that out there because a short while ago I noticed a loss of performance with my scooter while in a rush to get somewhere. The bike is service regularly at the dealership since new (50k+ on the clock). It crossed my mind while out that I hadn't used the bike in a week or more. I stopped and filled up the tank (it was at about half capacity or a little less). From that point onward it ran like a top. Wadda ya reckon, a fluke or might there be something to it?

    In order to pass the Land Transport inspection, I need to have a chain guard fitted. I don't have the OEM part and it will take 3 weeks to get it here in Phuket. Fabricating a cheap knock-off is also an option but requires more misery than it's worth -- finding a shop that understands and is then be able to execute in a timely fashion. So, if anyone has one kicking around and is willing to lend / rent it for half a day, I'd be very happy to hear from you.

  9. For whatever reason the search for Mitsubishi Thailand's website, today, provided an option to display in English. I sent my enquiry and will now attempt a phone call to see where that goes. Here's the link if anyone cares to record it: Mitsubishi Electric Thailand

    And, just found another link that points to Mitsubishi Electric Kang Yong website. I gather the first is corporate head office and the other is ... well, maybe manufacturer for some Mitsubishi products in Thailand?

    I won't be taking the new "R" pump apart because I'm hoping the dealer will exchange or allow switching to the Hitachi 300XX model for the difference in price. I will still go ahead and repair the older "QS" model and would sure like to know where that great-looking stainless tank can be had. I'll buy one if possible for my "QS" refurbishment. 

  11. This WP 305R model has the delivery pipe going into the housing which itself has a flange to mate with the upper portion (where it diverts to the area containing the check valve - see photo). That upper flange is where slight movement occurs. Pipe is stationary while upper housing flexes downward with torque from motor starting.
