  2. To the Git….

What a stupid post, you’re really jumping through something and or just making a wild guess.

Do you understand how offensive this is, you must have forgotten your manors when you got out of bed this morning.

The Old Git, “which I might add seems appropriate” was seen again this morning cruising down Sukhumvit with his tight fitting leotard sleeveless variety suit, apparently with a blue cap now strapped around his neck .

Thai law enforcements have been setting up road checks around Sulhumvit and questioning all motorists and personnel for information after a spray of complaints have been received over the last week in the vicinity.

The Old Git has a tenancies to tell stories and bore people to death, although there is no-crime here which has been committed the Thai law enforcement would like to address his dress code and due to his latest addition, "being the blue cap" now feel he is not part of the correct Super Hero Team inside of Bangkok and would like to question him regarding these complaints.

Law enforcement agents are offering a reward for any information regarding the Old Git and location, Call local Hotline: 02- 866GETU.

    Wild enough actuailzation.

  3. Try white polyester type sacks - around Baht 23 - 28 each (new) and about Baht 8 -11 (used - depending on condition, meaning: holes!!") - they're not as good as the real McCoy gunny bags (which will last for years and years if treated with care), but they'll do.

As gotlost says - better stored loose in bulk. Store in sacks if you are retailing (i.e. selling the stuff on a regular basis) - keeps better stored loose.

    Maize and All,

New polyester bags (50kg)from Roi-et area only 8-Baht each.

I can guarantee this price as I just bought 200.

For us we use these bags around three seasons or three years, as we only do rice once per year, I can't ask for more from an 8 Baht bag.

Keeps better stored loose, well in my opinion this is just not practical.

There is no advantage for me here so not practical to change are ways.

  4. Hi Svenn,

Hate to see this opportunity fade away. So what about, baby accessories shop come book shop as an idea.

Or you could go with my personnel favorite of a screen printing T-shirt factory.

All sizes and colors available of cause Saying, “Vote for Chopperbopper, Sinbin did” or “Vote for <deleted>” or mix the two name together which has a nice ring tone to it, hel_l I might even buy a shirt if made available.

The sky could be the limit when I start thinking about it now, screen printing could be the ticket, brainstorming again what about “hook line and stinker” or just plain “desprate” as our friend said, last but not least “normal western man wanted who have a job and can read and write them selfs ???” you probably could do this in bright colors with a three dimensional style for the ladies , but then there is just the simple screening kind being the letter 1 on the front of the T-shirt and the word Joke on the back, now where is that address to post it to I wonder.

  5. A couple of years ago we always got this very nice sweet smell of Hom Mali rice when we (that is, my wife) cooked it.

These days we don't get this typical Hom Mali (Jasmine) smell.

I went to Central and bought the most expensive Hom Mali rice I could find, but I still didn't get the same sweet smell.

Am I imagining things ? (If I am crazy, could you please be gentle on me.)

Here's the SP from my sister-in-law. Our rice isn't as fragrant as it was a few years ago owing to cross-pollination with strains which are not Khao Hom Mali. I guess we, too, have bought imported seed without thinking about it hard enough. I think it is next year when Asean free trade will allow millers to mix Vietnamese rice with ours and they will sell it as KHM. I thought, briefly, of exploiting the USP of growing and marketing our own fragrant rice but we [s-i-L & me] guess it cannot work as, again, cross-pollination from nearby fields would wreck the effort. Any thoughts by experts on the last point would be welcome.

I expect Thai rice prices to fall to the same as Viet prices soon. Make it easier to export but wondering what effect that will have on the price the chao nah gets. My guess is - less.

Yields have been pretty average so far with Khao Bhao and the start of the main crop. I liked a comment read recently that going for quality could be a good policy but then one is always at the mercy of the merchants for price. Understand they will also be trousering our price guarantee money after divvi-ing up with those who arranged it that way.

    Thoughts?

    Thoughts chai,

Can you ga-ru-nar explain owing to cross-pollination with strains……bit, what went wrong?

And then you say that we have bought imported seeds “sia-jai don’t understand why”.

You must know a lot more on this subject because we stupid Isaan farmers in the out skirts of Roi-et just used the seeds from last year’s harvest, been doing this since Great Grandparents past the seeds to Grand Farther, but then unfortunately when he wasn’t watching Grand Mother used them to pay a gambling debt. “so the story goes”

When the Son came back from working in Bangkok reclaimed the bags of seeds would you believe in a (high-so) Chicken fight, but then proceeded in his smugness to feed the chicken with a hand-full of Great Grandfathers seed each day.

This caused a fight between Sister and Brother but then I married the Sister and had a Son which needed to be feed so we decided to buy the remaining seed from her Brother and plant the seeds so I can honestly say that still after our ten years of planting Khoa-Hom-Mali, it is still Khoa-Hom-Mali, with fragrant and taste to match.

Chan-mai-sarb Euca, you sound like an expert on Khao would love to learn some more.

    Bow,

Yes, I think you’re imagining things.....like the other night I drunk a bottle of Loa-koa and I felt it had no affect on me.

Try again at the end of this month as there will be a flood of new Hom-Mali arriving to markets.

    How do you cook it?

Electric, Gas, charcoal, aluminum. Stainless, bamboo?

What does Central refer too I’m assuming one thing But maybe I’m wrong.

  7. Hi All,

I have a couple of large trees on the farm that I'd like to have cut down and then cut into planks, beams, and posts to build a small Thai style guesthouse/cabin. There is a timber crew nearby that can do this with a chainsaw and a sort of mobile circular saw.

Before contacting them, I would like to know the general prices the "lumberjacks" charge for the above mention work. Do they go by the meter?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers

    Macx.

Never heard of a day rate charge, for our Village prices go buy the meter for finished cut wood whatever you order.

So if their your trees…..they will cut and carry, mill and dry stack for you. Example (2" x 4" x 4mtrs) @ today’s price of 25baht per meter.

    Square Posts, same....

No chainsaw or electric-chainsaw is used in this pricing.

    Only Makita 5402 saw 16”.

  8. gf has 10 rai near kham khuan kaeo, he relatives plant the rice and work the fields, in return she gets 1/3 of the rice produced, a neighbour is selling 5 rai at 40,000 per rai, g/f wants to buy as if she gets 1/3 of rice produced on this land she won't have to buy any rice, she reckons the rice she's getting at the moment isn't enough. 2 questions i have........ (1) is that the going rate for land, seems very expensive to me (2) 1/3 of the rice from 10 rai of land, only plant once per year, how much rice would this equate to, how many people would it feed for a year (eating rice evey day)

    Curlywatt

First off: Why don’t you advise to GF to arrange contractors to plant maintain and harvest for her, ‘since it’s her 10Ria of paddy’, why only receiving 1/3?

We work around, 300kg per Rai planted once per year being Jasmine. Note: Not hand planted only hand thrown which is the cheapest and fastest alternative with a small yield but least drama. “In my opinion”

You say 10Rai well trust me it’s a lot of rice.

I tend to keep the figures lower than other posts, as it not a big money earner for the small time farmer, and blowing the balloon up to much will only cause one reaction, look at it like a necessity for survival and or subsidized living plus there are so many different points to be made and of cause everybody has their own style. Huff and puff…

300kg per Rai @ 14bht per kg sold with the shell on you work it out.

I’ll give you some help and say you should quite easily keep to a budget less than 15-000bht to have contractors complete all tasks for her 10 Rai of rice paddy yielding 3000kg. So if you have six small plastic style bags full of rice with the shell on you would be in business for next year around Roi-et area.

Land title information comments are very relevant to this price for sure.

40k to me is a little higher than usual for paddy, but then again depending on area maybe not. (paddy land with red chanote, off the main road with no power available 25K is norm)

How much rice eaten per month, Jasmine 28kg, Sticky 20kg

Four adults, Two teenagers, Two children,

    Three dogs…………..

And a workman’s dinner BBQ party once a month for five.

  9. Hello all,

Does anybody know of a preferred method of killing farm animals? (Isaan)

The sledge hammer, knife concept seems to be the only way for our Village.

Butchered one rather large cow the other day, which I might add even proved to be a handful for our gang of blades.

Just curious, “here say never fun to do” but most definitely a necessity of life in a Village.

I’m thinking that there isn’t a humane way inside this Village as from what I’ve seen it’s pretty tuff if you’re on the menu.

  10. What I really mean't to say was from what depth are you lifting the water supply i.e. is this water coming up from an aquafier underground or are you taking water from the mains supply.

Putting that aside, the question then is: how many times per day do you wish to circulate the water through the filter system? The Power required here is not much however you look at it as your pressure differenace can never be more than 1/10 of a bar. It will come down to volume - how many times a day do you want the water to circulate.

If the circulating pump was say 100watts, and the solar panel was say 250watts, then the power used during the day would be a little less than half the power avalible from the panel - the balance could be stored in a battery and used to keep the pump running through the night.

100watts can move a huge amount of water - off the top of my head at the sorts of differential pressures we are talking about here (ie.. tank to tank) 100watts could move between 4000 - 6000 litres per hour - yes, I mean per hour not per day!. 1watt = 1litre = 1minute

    Hi Maizefarmer,

100watts can shift 4000 to 6000 litres per hour, are you sure on this?.

What is the brand of pump here I need to change up as my shurflo can only achive around 400LPH on a real sunny day.

    Cheers

  13. Yes permit,

I have one from the equivalent in Thai being ‘Forestry department’ which I believe to be legal.

We registered our chainsaw at Roi-et to a cost of 800 bht Five years ago, two-weeks later the phone rang, arrived back in to town to receive document. Simple as that, every year we receive a letter and are required to bring into town they check numbers etc take photo adjust document.

Small fee here around 40bht and away we go, you tell me I get the thumbs up, so away I go.

There is a lot of confusion with regards to petrol saws, added with village stories and it is pretty well summed up, but the bottom line is this permit is only creatable being used on your own land.

Stealing jungle wood or letting the brother in-law borrow would run in to complications.

    Hope this helps

Ps. I walked into town’s cop-shop and asked years back they pointed me in the right direction as most folks were to scared to even talk about it go figure.

  14. in the UK we have a MOT test, vehicles over three years old are tested and must be certified, anything that fails needs to be repaired before it is certified. these vehicles need to be certified every year at garages licensed by the Ministry of Transport. however in thailand we know that would never work as the certificates would just be bought

Exactly....the bus companies are owned by rich & influential families. so its highly unlikely a law / regualtions which would cost them money would be passed. And if one was, they'd just buy a stack of certificates and be good to go.

How many of these "accidents" have there been in the past few years? What got done? Remember the "vow of good driving" the bus drivers had to take a couple of years ago? Pathetic.

I don’t think you would be saying that if you owned a bus.

Very interesting to hear more about buying certificates, do you have any personnel experience or are you just being an exhaust here.....

In the UK…..… well in Thailand there is also a compulsory six month inspection for Buses/Trucks you may or may not be aware. Jan and June is the period for our province and penitently will cost, if you don’t comply.

Not every bus company is owned by rich influential families and some may take your comment too heart as their transport business has been built up over-time and hard work from their family.

Very Sad to hear about this accident.

    Regards C-sip

  15. ^ How much power does that produce?

    Gerontion,

    Wind gen 200watts

    Solar 120watts

    Battery 200amps

    24v system

    Excluding the wind package.

Solar, this is the time you laugh or cry but ok. On paper looks like 720watts.

But in reality over the last months average is 500watts per night.

So the norm would be a grand x2 20watt 2’ fluorescent lights @11-12hrs run @ cow shed.

Including the wind generator if consistently turning, add on another 200watts per hour.

So this is quite handy as when we do have power cuts it's normally windy so 4-5 extra lights can be on.

  16. If the Thais don't do it then do likewise. They've been doing it for thousands of years and if there was a way, they'd have found it. 'When in Rome.......... springs to mind.

    Do what? bludge.

Our farm borders a Klong which runs all year, and yet only 3 out of about 50 farmers who also border this Klong bother to do a second crop of any description and most of them have the bum out of their jeans.

The theme around our area seems to be,never let work get in the way of endless days socialising over a bottle of Lao Khao.

    HA HA ha aaaarrrr Ozzydom,

  17. Hey Disambiguated,

Sanity checks nice one. ‘arrr sorry I’m just climbing back into the chair.’

I fine it a bit hard to believe also about the gold, 3-4 Baht is quite a lump for one piece.

Will you require security for the event or travel plan if so I can offer a team of mercenary from our Village outside of Roi-et.

Maybe mother-in-law ‘To be’ is meaning more that one piece, which then could add up to the 10bht plus factor, ring, bracelet, chain bling.

Next insight personally, I think that you will find it hard to stop the locals laughing full stop.

I’m sure that they have the rate set in Sisaket, as any Mother with an attractive daughter would know, the bar in your case looks like this has already been set high and now is the time too see how you do in the high jump.

What I find incredible in TITS, (this is Thailand) is that the gold always seems to spend most of is time residing in a small plastic bags inside a lock box/safe back in town at the Gold shop.

So the bigger the Baht is always better for dar-borrow.

I’m sure this will be a case of the more you know (back in the Village) then learn the more sanity checks will be necessary, ‘so where the boots well soldier’

I also liked the usual nonsense part in your post ‘dam_n chair’ but unfortunately you maybe only scratching the surface and I wouldn’t be one to say impossible in Thailand.

    Regards C-sip

  18. I need an estimate of how much money it will cost to do the following to 78 very large lamyai trees:

    1) fertilize with 15:15:15 (one application)

    2) apply pesticides to kill red ants (one application)

If you have the answer, please let me know.

And before you say it, yes I have talked with a local distributor of fertlizer and pesticides........I want a second opinion from a person who knows and has experience growing lamyai. Thanks.

Might be better JR ….if you do this first and then tell us?

No experience with Lamyai trees at all, but my best guess would be around 3000bht fertilize.

With bug spray via 15ltr water mixture inside this solo hand pump backpack style unit on average

three concentrated bottles complete our 150 mango trees at around another 1000bht.

Total of four thou with no labor cost . How does that sound? Compared with what you have heard.

  19. Drunken drivers dosnt care for other people and their lifes and should be considered as murderers

    Bengt,

So I guess you have never made any mistakes in your life and because of your perfect seed you have sowed you are now the tall tree too all which would like shade.

Would you like too be the judge and jury and possible the executioner or would you like somebody else to do that part under your request.

They did say ‘apparently’ in the post incident, unless you have some first hand knowledge of the report to add?

It never ceases to amaze me, but then you advertise that you are a ‘Odd fellow’ "Friendship, Love and Truth" but in reality you probable don’t practice what you preach.

Splatter finally made some sense well done ha.

Head back to the top of the thread and read ‘Dingdongrd’ quotes ‘these are great’.

    Heng, Scott sum it up.

I can only add that I find driving in Bkk a challenge at the best of times and would not advise this for the faint hearted even before believe it or not, adding an Elephant on the tar seal.

I can remember back that it was recommended for (red) flashing lights to be added to tail and or feet which is something I guess at night, which may be the only warning you have under curtain circumstances but I still see this is not compulsory.

Next page…arr. sigh and shrug my shoulders.

Because if you only worry about the drunks on the road and feel that they are the chaos and want to highlight them you won’t last five minutes and all the “friend ship, love, and truth you possess will not help you on the roads in this big bad city”.

    Regards

  20. Back in February I had an aircon problem I thought with my Toyota pickup. There was water on the passenger side mat coming from under the dash when I went around corners so it appears to be some kind of aircon leak. I went to the new Toyota garage in Ubon off the chayangkul rd and they re-gassed the aircon for me at no charge. Never had a problem since. If I had taken the car to a back street garage they would have found work for themselves by makiing a problem out of nothing in order to squeeze some baht out of me. I was pleasently suprised with the Toyota dealership and their atttitude to looking after customers. The point is that it is false economy to think sometimes that the smaller guy with a breakers yard up an alley or mechanic shop off the street is any cheaper than the main dealer. For me it was a lesson learned as the same happened with my father-in-law's Nissan when they re-charged his aircon after a service and decided to throw that in for nothing. The main dealerships are very helpful and have well trained staff but most think they are too expensive to use for minor mechanical problems or repairs.

You make a valid point re going to Toyota. I went to the Buriram Toyota outlet for a brake check and the air con problems. Ended up with new brake pads, and a list of the aircon problems. I did not request a car valet wash and wax, but they did that and charged me for it!

What I wanted to do was get the same air con work done by a small trader, using the same parts, at a hopefully considerably cheaper price.

But lo and behold, instead of looking for work they repeatedly told me there was nothing wrong with the air con. Now I must decide what to do next.

Well, sounds like you need to head over to the Toyota garage in Ubon off the chayangkul rd.

Valid points taught thanks guys something free from Toyota dealer, paying for a carwash that wasn’t requested.

    Cheers C-sip

  21. Hi there John,

What number plate are you intending to run with, would be another question to ask.

We run a couple of buses, example:

    10mtr 43 seats and a 10mtr 34 seats.

Number plate: starting with 30 = Travel tour anyway inside of the Kingdom.

Number plate starting with 10 = Inside of a Province buying the road from a set point A to B return running the correct color.

We pay around 14,000bht per year to run on number 30 and 12,000bht on number 10. Years registration stickers and the lowest third party insurance from the transport department Roi-et available.

This price above doesn’t include the first-hand cost to set up number plate say number 30 is around 45,000bht but you now own this, same with number 10 =20,000bht buying the road from A to B taxes etc.... just to let you know also one transport check now every 6months is required (yellow sticker). If not the fine is heaps.

I personally think 100 000bht per year is ridicules price not reasonable at all. But there are factors that may lead you down that path?

MF has hit the nail on the head with his questions.

Again personally I wouldn’t buy new! Haven’t you been following the price of fuel in the Kingdom.

Best to go down to your local transport department with dedicated driver for rig “license upgrades take alot of time to achieve” and ask some questions first! Then you’ll be ready for the PTT station.

    Cheers
