However, the Public Health Minister expressed concern about the ongoing political rallies, as they might pose a risk of COVID-19 transmission. Social distancing has not been strictly implemented. Demonstrators are advised to wear protective masks

Social distance during a protest? Not going to happen. Racist, A-NUT-in uses the fake media to stigmatize protesters as super-spreaders. Where's the apology for his racist comments about foreigners? He's on ignore mode until an apology is issued. But I'm not holding my breath on that ever happening either.

  2. China has been impacting Thailand geographically since the 2014 coup which was highly criticized by the United States it's strongest ally as an authoritarian power grab. The Thaksin Shinawatra administration that took office in 2001, and the military governments that repeatedly ousted Thaksinite governments, provided an opportunity for China to engage with Thailand at a high level throughout the 2000s and 2010s while the US was silent on offering comparable diplomacy, aid and significant trade deals.

When the US pulled out of the TPP, US-Thailand relations deteriorated further. Menawhile, China's committment to business investment, military equipment and education in Thailand has been on a level that no outside power has done since the US in the Vietnam War. China is now investing in and building physical links through many parts of Thailand's public and private sectors.

IMHO inviting Chinese in first was always the preferred choice of the BKK Sino-Thai elites as Thailand has clearly entered into China's geopolitical orbit. China's direct investment is now becoming increasingly critical to the survival of Thailand’s flailing and uncertain economic future. I would expect many if not most of the STV tourists will come from China. Thailand simply ignores the egregious actions of China intentionally releasing the virus throughout the globe. The courting the China cash cow is the name of the game.

  3. I sat at an immigration office a couple days ago with a perfect sightline to watch an agent meet individuals and families at the immigration counter, as one after another handed the agent huge stacks of 1000THB bills. Quite a scam operation. And now they extend the amnesty?

Do they think foreigners are stupid and can't see through their frickin' racist money suck? The Thai Extortion Dogma lives deep within them all.

These IO airheads have lost all credibility.

All these stories make me so sad does it really matter in these difficult time whether or not a few remaining foreigners stay or leave Thailand. What about the forgotten poor Thais reliant upon tourism now without any means to support them selves or their Children.

Hey now...hasn't there been enough confusion? Don't confuse IOs with the facts and common sense issues. Their head might blow up.

You're right, I've only lived full time in Thailand for 16 years, so I have much yet to learn. Maybe in another 10 years I might get to your level of understanding, or I'll die first LOL.

But you are totally wrong about this case. It's a push for compensation. Money trumps face everyday. He contacted his lawyer - the lawyer can see the potential of a big payday and they go for it.

I've been here 25 years and worked for and hired Thai people. Seems to me after 16 years you still don't get it. Take 10 more.

This has nothing to do with saving face. Damaging an hotel's reputation affects their profitability. This is about money, not face.

Disagree. You obviously don't know what the Asian concept of saving face is.  Saving face is a big time concept to Thais which is why they avoid confrontation and endeavour not to embarrass themselves, their family, friends, business or other people. The hotels reputation and appearance is an extension of who they are. Think circular not linear. Greng Jai.

  7. This guy acted like a fool. Those who know this culture and speak Thai understand to some degree how this culture works. NEVER get into an "nasty" argument with Thai people, regardless of who it is. Thais honor a soft approach and a smile to engage in negotiations. In other words, shut your mouth and deescalate your drunk*** attitude asap. Be polite...supap na krap.

He's staying at a resort @ 6000THB/night? Is 500THB really worth arguing about and having the entire staff think you're a bonehead? Threats to post negative reviews to ruin the resorts reputation is stupid. This guy needs to grow up.

As difficult as it may be in the heat of the moment, don't threaten Thai people...period. You will lose that battle and a world of trouble can come raining on your holiday parade. Don't think Thais will take being threatened or verbally assaulted lying down. They have many ways to push back and some are not nice at all...don't go there.

My fellow American learned a hard lesson...shut your mouth, be friendly and if negotiations don't work then pay them the frickin' 500THB.

You need a certificate from a hospital

And make sure it is in Thai language from a hospital doctor. Remember they will grant 30 days from the DATE of the letter not the end of amnesty date in this case (i.e. Sept. 26). If your letter is dated Oct. 10 then you have until Nov. 10, even if the next 30 day extension period ends Nov. 25.

Of course this information was not announced by IM. And to add more confusion to the mix, procedures may vary depending on IM location.

  9. The proposed 5-7 day quarantine reduction in France and Germany is ludicrous and irresponsible.

Large scale Rapid Testing is not yet available in France and other European countries. In France, testing results are currently not adapted to a 7 day Q period and results sometimes are only available after three, four or even five days with current testing kits. With the recent surge in cases throughout major countries, it's not wise to alter the Q period at this time.

I would remind the good Minister not to confuse this virus with the seasonal or swine flu. In the case of the seasonal flu, the average incubation period is 2 days, with a range of 1 to 4 days. In the case of swine flu (H1N1 influenza virus), the incubation period varies between 1 and 4 days, which can be extended up to 7 days.

There is now emerging evidence that the COVID-19 virus is a genome altered pathogen, manufactured in the classified Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) lab in Wuhan, China, which holds the world's most dangerous pathogens at maximum biocontainment levels. IMHO Communist gov't of China purposely altered the genome and exported it by allowing Chinese to travel and infect the globe thus leveling the economic playing field. They need to pay for this egregious and reprehensible action that brought irreparable damage and death across the globe.

  10. Ok I get it...desparate times call for desparate compromising measures.  If they reduce the quarantine period to 7 days, Thailand will pay a big price. Amazing Thailand!

The virus most commonly has an incubation period of FIVE DAYS. About 97% of people who contract the virus will show symptoms within 11 days. That means most people who’ve been infected will likely show symptoms within 11 days. By setting 14 days for the self-quarantine period, health officials are allowing extra time for people to be certain they haven’t been infected and can’t spread the virus to others.

In reality if they were serious about reinvigorating long term tourism, they would subsidize the quarantine, pay for at least half of it, and then maybe some people would come. At this point, they may be sabotaging tourism long term, beyond repair. Expect a million tourists in 2021, two to three million in 2022, and beyond that?

On its face, the STV is a marketing disaster.  There are far too many hoops to jump through.  But I agree the offer becomes more attractive if they can meet tourists at least halfway on the costs.  Otherwise I think most of the target group of wealthy tourists say screw Thailand, since there are plenty of other long term holiday options around the globe that have opened up with less restrictions.

I know them Western dating sites

In all of them women are advertising sex with them. What do these women expect?

I personally know a German woman who ran after a German man (who lived next door) just to have sex with him in sunny Goa (India) This woman would never ever call herself a prostitute. But one thing shes sure of: "All Thai ladies are prostitutes"

You know what happens in Europe if a Thai lady refuses to go to bed with everyone? Then she's bashed as a lesbian.

Western men are so proud of their small dicks that they'd never admit they're simply impotent.

"Western men are so proud of their small dicks..."? How would know that Mr. Winkie?

Did anyone know there was a Mental Health Bureau here? First time I have heard of it in over a decade? Did they fabricate this Bureau out of thin air? If not, they sure have done of great job of keeping it hidden.

Agreed, they're a small and obscure health authority that operates as an outpatient resource in mental and general hospitals only.  There are huge psychological issues among Thai people, but there has NEVER been a surge in interest by the gov't healthcare industry in addressing it. Just another...my pen rai.
