Hi all, when I renew my uk passport im guessing the number will change, anyone have any experience of notifying their bank of the new passport number, im guessing they will need to be notified of the change for immigration purposes regarding bank statements for visa extensions. Im currently banking with kasikorn bank in Khon kaen

Many thanks for all the replies and helpful advice, im now with kasikorn bank and it was a fairly simple process to open the account, the app works a treat and im overall pleased with them. After reading here about people’s negative experience with the banks here, I can see why people use visa agents to get their visas, it seems to be not a great idea to tie up a lot of money in a bank that can then be frozen without notice….very worrying

Hi all, thanks for the many replies, I have opened a kasiorn bank account literally in and out in 30 minutes, I have tried to open a bank account with SCB but they wanted a mountain of paperwork including copies of my marriage certificate and wife’s ID etc, then then took all the paperwork copies and said that they have to send them to head office in Bangkok for approval…i am still waiting to see what happens..

Morning all, im hoping to get some advice on what to do to recover money that I loaned to a business owner. I have loaned 200k to a local restaurant it’s an Indian restaurant with an Indian owner, we have been friends for quite a while so when the subject of me loaning him money came up I was ok with it and was happy to help, the loan is to be repaid in the following manner 12 monthly interest payments 13th month the 200k is paid back in lump sum. I have a loan contract laying out the repayments etc this is signed by us both, the first 2 payments went fine, the 3rd payment was late and now the 4th payment is 10 days late and im just being told he will pay tomorrow etc but no payment forth coming. On top of this loan he loaned 55k which was to buy stock, this is now also 10 days overdue, so at the moment im owed a fair bit of money, I have been promised that the payment of the 15k and the 55k will be transferred to my bank account today 30/1/2026…so let’s see if that happens or not. So two questions Can I ask for the original 200k to be paid back as it looks like he is going to default on the monthly payments ( I have a loan contract document for this loan) . How could I recover the 55k loan which there is no paperwork for, all I have are download of the line chats regarding payments etc, I also have bank transfer slips to prove I loaned him the 55K I know I have been to trusting by loaning out money but I didn’t expect to e in this situation I just need to know if I need to get a legal letter to him giving him a set date to repay the 55k loan and also can I ask for the 200k loan to be now paid In full if he’s defaulted on the monthly payments on that.

Hi all, I have had a bangkok bank account for about 6 years now, I find them problematic and generally unhelpful, so I want to park my visa money in there but open an account with another bank for general use and daily transactions, can anyone recommend a bank that seems to be good to use..many thanks

Ok, I think I have the answer I needed, I have spoken to Khon Kaen immigration today, I told them i’m on a uk passport and extension of stay based on retirement, but I want to change to a marriage extension at my next renewal which is in may, but my marriage certificate will have my Irish passport number on it, I have the required 400k sat in my Bangkok bank account and it’s been there for a few years ( actually it’s 800k to cover my retirement financials) they said it’s not a problem but to call them 1 month before renewal and they will Give us the list of documents that they require…. I would like to thank you all for your replies and suggestions and help, particularly @Liqorice & Dr Jack who must have dreaded it when I asked yet another question, many thanks for your time, patience & efforts. The only thing left to do is visit Bangkok bank and update my account with my new uk passport number, and look for another bank to put the other 400k in

Ok just to be clear, im currently on a retirement extension using my uk passport, when I got married I used my Irish passport for all the paperwork, I now want to change my retirement extension to marriage extension, in my uk passport but my passport number on my marriage certificate will be my Irish passport number…will this be a problem?

Ok, so when I registered my marriage I used my Irish passport for all the paperwork, so my Irish passport number will no doubt be on my marriage certificate somewhere, can I now change from retirement to marriage even though my marriage certificate will almost certainly have my Irish passport number on it

Im going to check mine later, when I filled in the affirmation to marry paperwork they wanted to see my passport at the Irish embassy, so if it has my Irish passport number on it I won’t be able to,e to change my extension based on retirement to based on marriage

This is all proving to be a bloody headache to be honest, is it possible to change my retirement visa/ extension to a marriage visa / extension in my existing uk passport

My marriage certificate was issued using my Irish passport, I don’t want to cause issues further down the line. I did think that maybe I could come back in to Thailand using my irish passport get my 60 day visa waiver stamp, then go to immigration and apply for my non o based on marriage, I would have thought that if they want to see 400k as proof of funds I could just show them my Bangkok bank account balance? …

I better go to spec savers I missed all of that regarding the financial requirements…

@Liquorice , I have just been on the Thai embassy in Vientiane information page, it looks like I don’t have to show proof of funds in a bank account, so this might be what I need to do, as has been stated I can’t open a bank account before I get the non O visa

@DrJack54 oh, that’s a spanner in the works right there…I didn’t think about not having a bank account with my Irish passport details….bugger it! I’ve just had a look at the royal Thai embassy in vientien and they are directing applications online with Thai government, but of course im using an Apple iPad so trying to fill in the form online just doesn’t work, they seem to prefer android based tablets or phones…and they are quoting 5-10 days to get the visa emailed to me, I really didn’t fancy staying in Laos that long, not only that but I would have to fly into Laos as im leaving Thailand on a uk passport and entering Laos on an Irish passport

@DrJack54 I have only booked for one week im afraid, so Heres my plan. This week open a new bank account and deposit 400k, this will then be for daily living expenses, the remaining 400k will stay with Bangkok bank and this will be for my non O based on marriage and its subsequent extensions, I will leave Thailand on the last day that my current retirement extension expires in my uk passport, I will enter and exit dubai on my Irish passport, then enter Thailand on my Irish passport getting a 60 day tourist stamp, then extend that for 30 days, about a week later I will apply for my non O based on marriage, the reason I’m doing all this is because I want to try out the monthly income method (40k) monthly payments from abroad into my account, because I will be on my Irish 🇮🇪 passport I should be able to get the letter from the Irish 🇮🇪 embassy confirming my income for immigration, the 400k will always be there as back up in case something goes wrong.

Just to make things clearer, im going to go to Dubai for a week ( never been so looking forward to it) im going to enter Dubai on my Irish passport and then one week later enter Thailand on my Irish passport, the only stamps in my Irish passport will be from Dubai, I do not have any other stamps or visas in it as it’s new and not been used, im not sure if 1 week is enough time to allow me to apply for my non O…regarding the banking side, im going to keep 400k in my Bangkok bank account ( I’ve had this account about 6 years and my wise transfers are paid into it) I will very soon open another account with a different bank and put 400k in that account, so my Bangkok bank account will just be used to bank the money required to meet the marriage visa/ extension of stay requirements, and the other account will be for daily transactions.

Hi gents, thanks for the responses and suggestions, the reason I’m leaving Thailand is because I’m coming back in on my Irish passport and I want to use that instead of my uk passport but to do that I have to leave thailand…I have over 800k in my Bangkok bank account but I wanted to change or open another account where my 400k for marriage visa can sit and not be touched

Morning all, im currently on a non o visa based on retirement and have been here four years with extensions of stay, my current extension expires in may this year but I want to leave thailand and let the extension expire, then return on a 60 day tourist visa which I will then extend for 30 days, during that period I will apply for a non o based on marriage, my question is this…at what point does the 400k have to be in my Bangkok bank account as proof of funds, looking forward to any help, my immigration office is Khon Kaen.

Many thanks for your answers, I have a santander bank account that was registered to my uk address, when I moved to france I changed my bank account address to france, im just concerned that if I use a uk address that the DWP will see the account is registered to my french address and it might cause problems

Hi all, im able to claim my uk state pension next year in may, I have a house in france and a house here in Thailand (Khon Kaen) can I use my french address when I claim my state pension or is that not possible? I have an address in the uk that I can use if needs be….just trying to stop my pension being frozen from the annual increase.. any advice or experience greatly received

If vietnam were to sort out a proper long stay visa then Thailand would be in trouble as foreigners are getting tired of the ever changing rules surrounding the visas here, from my own experience as soon as they see a foreigner here the price goes up, it’s done blatantly and without any thought, if I want to buy a used car or buy building supplies I get my mrs to get a price then I show my face to pay for it, because if they see me first they will inflate the prices

@Equatorial, many thanks for your advice regarding card management on the app, I had a look through and just noticed that the prompt to ‘ activate debit card ‘ is greyed out so I can’t select it, looks like I need a trip to my branch to sort it out. many thanks for your help

Hi all, thanks for the replies and good information, the situation I have is I have a Bangkok bank account but the card I have I can’t use to shop online or make contacless transactions in a shop by touching my card on the reader, what normally happens when I’m trying to order grab or buy from lazada etc is they ask for my CCV number when I enter it it gets rejected or I get a message saying incorrect CCV it’s as if some functions of my card have not been enabled by the bank….looks like I will have to contact the bank by going into a branch to sort it out
