  1. I paid a visit to the Samsung service centre in CM this morning.  Seems mostly to be all about phones, but they supply parts for all their kit.  Very helpful lady speaking English served up some good news and bad.  The price of the new pcb ..... a rather wallet pleasing 949 baht.  But - there are none in Thailand, so we'll call you when it gets here from Korea, in one or two months!  I purchased a new wall fan later...

Thanks for posting this.  This has removed a lot of my guilt from using sticky-traps to get rid of some small geckos that had been hanging around my desktop mid-tower computer.

Like Bankruatsteve said, I'd try getting rid of the gecko and wiping the board off with distilled water (don't use tap as it likely has dissolved salts). Let it dry and then see if it works.  Hopefully the gecko just caused a logic error on the board without causing damage.

    Sticky Wallpaper from now on!

  3. Well it's still a dud.  I cleaned it laboriously with alcohol and brush, and our local "Man" returned and slotted it back in.  It powers up, but remains with the blinking "cl 54" on the digital display on the white box, same as before.

So, I'll try the samsug service centre in CM tomorrow.  And tech-mate, and any other suggestions that come along.

Thank you very much for taking time to reply.  Kap

I assume that the man did verify it wasn't just the fuse ????

Prior to repair chap arriving, the unit still "worked" with the board in place, with the display flashing Cl 54.  Using the remote, I could switch the unit off and on, activate the cleaning programme, which would open the front door, but nothing would roll, the machine then reset itself to flashing cl 54.  Therefore, I presume, not a fuse problem (but there again, I'm an artist????)

  5. Many thanks one and all for your help so far.  I got the board back from the service guy a moment ago and will give it a clean using some alcohol and a toothbrush (as seen on youtube for cleaning computer logic board).  The close-up photo shows the area of fried gecko.  I don't know if those wavy whitish lines mean it's had it, but I'll get the board reinserted later and see.

  6. I wonder if anyone can help?

We have a Samsung split ac unit AR13TYHZCWKN (purchased 13 months ago) which went on the blink the other day, flashing the auto cleaning cycle "Cl 54".  We got a local chap to come along and clean it, but on disassembling the indoor unit he found a fried gecko stuck to the logic (green board, processing?) board.

He cannot repair it (I don't know if this is skills issue or what) so we are looking for a replacement or repair by another.

Any recommendations of brilliant shops/people in this field for the CM area?  Thank you.

  7. Nipped up to CM immigration this morning. Pretty quiet. Presented my passport to the enquiry desk and asked for the stamp to be updated to 30 Dec (purchased a 60 day extension to my non-O multi mid September, valid from 27th until 26th November).  No problem.  24 baht to photocopy entire passport, no queue number, no fee, just a short wait and bingo, extension to the end of the year sorted.

This allows me to do my marriage extension and all future applications in December, which is a good time of year for me.

I can confirm chiangmai immigration by airport will update 60 day wife visa if submitted before September deadline for free to Dec 30 but this is last day.

"For free" ?  As I understood it, we (those of us Non O types who bought a 60 day extension prior to the September 26 deadline) automatically got our stamp extended until end of December.  Are we meant to have been in to get this done?

  9. A quick update.

I visited CM immigration this morning and had a pleasant chat with two officers regarding my options for annual extension to my Non-O.  They couldn't have been more helpful, giving me all the forms I would require to make the application.

However, they did not acknowledge the suggestion that I can successfully apply having paid myself only 2x 40k baht in the two preceeding months.  They insisted I show 12 months of 40k, or 400k in the bank, seasoned for two months. No other options.

    Therefore, I am considering

    a,   The agent at 25k,

    b.   Leaving it all until I am ready to return from UK, and see how the land lies at that point (November/December with luck).  As I said earlier, I am unlikely to have 400k saved up during this visit.  The online application for a 90 day single use Non-O from within UK (Hull consulate site) still requires bank statements x3 but doesn't state how much money should be available.  Does anyone have an insight on this?

    ......to be continued.....

  10. Thank you for your helps!

I spoke to a Bangkok agent (referred by a contact of my wife's) this morning who can help with annual extension of non-o, for a fee of 30k baht and the operation conducted in Korat (I'm in Chiang Mai). Doesn't sound right to me.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an agent in CM?

The 40k per month x2 and first time extension to my existing non-o seems best, will visit immigration in CM tomorrow to enquire.

  11. Good evening, newbie looking for some constructive advice from these hallowed pages

I am a (very nearly) 57 yr old British male, properly married to a Thai lady, currently holding a Non-O visa issued in Saigon last August, expires 22 Aug.  I flew in to Thailand last on March 12th and had my outgoing flights cancelled, so stayed on, now on the amnesty with a 60 day extension in reserve (unused).

The somewhat obvious reason for a visa collected in Saigon is that the financials are undeclared and for me, the answer to that lies in the amount of rebar buried in a hole in the ground, and the hardwood above it, just south of Chiang Mai. It just ain't in my bank account for now.  Being self employed, working in UK and ME, my income has been decimated this year, and I need to return to UK to earn some dosh quite soon.  Prior to leaving, I need to lay some groundwork for returning, and top of the list is a new visa (or extension or some other thing I am unaware of).  It is unlikely that I will procure a sum in excess of the 400K baht for an extension by the end of a short sharp gig prior to Christmas,

Ideally I would find a way to renew my Non-O (ME) without leaving Thailand, or find a way to convert it to an extension based on marriage (I read you only need to transfer 40k baht twice to qualify?) however my experience is limited and time is now running short (although I do have the 60 day extension card to play).

How can I renew a non-O within Thailand?

I am not inclined to go for a retirement visa on the grounds of insurance costs on returning here, which added to the overall level of buggeration, just takes the biscuit.

    Are there any other options?
