Guys,
I am British and have been married to my Thai wife for 10 years + to which she already had 3 young boys from her previous Thai marriage. Around 5 years ago I requested some advice on the subject of legally adopting the boys from the British Embassy (and to no surprise they couldn't offer zero advice) and told me to go directly to the Thai Adoption Agency in Bangkok. I took my wife and boys with me to this agency to find out the process and check if it was even possible. In summary the agency individual was very rude and not helpful indicating that the whole process could take over 2 years subject to my vetting and financial capability to support the boys!! "The Thai father hasn't paid a single baht towards the welfare of the children since I first met my wife over 13 years ago" yet they want to vet my commitment and financial standing - outrageous!! The key factor which put us off undertaking the adoption was that as soon as I filed the application and paperwork my wife would no longer have any parental control over the boys and this would be transferred to me as the Male in the relationship even though the process could take up to 2 years..... The whole system is totally biased to the male (father) having full control. My wife quite understandably wasn't very keen to sign over full custody which is completely understandable so we didn't proceed. My boys are now coming into their late teens and have simply decided to do a name change on their surnames so we are all a family unit carrying the same name.

Looks like the Thai Embassy in the USA has different guidelines for the Non O-A Visa. I am married to a Thai (no marriage visa) and was stuck in the UK for 3 months. Whilst applying for the COE I also applied for a Non O-A visa which was granted along with the COE and repatriation flight. Now in quarantine in Bangkok. I guess it comes down to the Embassy!

18 hours ago, ThailandRyan said:So, basically anyone wishing to vacation in Thailand must be first be approved by a Royal Thai Embassy and have evidence of COVID-19 test proving they are COVID-free within 72 hours before departing. Alternatively, they must present a ‘Fit to Fly’ or other documents proving they are free of infection. Additionally the tourists must have health insurance coverage of US $100,000 in case they need to have medical treatment for whatever reason.
With that being said they must also acknowledge that after arriving, they will remain at an ASQ hotel venue for 14 days, during which they will be tested two times during their stay at the hotel. The first test to be conducted sometime between the 3rd and 5th day of there lovely vacation, with the second test conducted between the 11th and 13th day of there by now wonderfully enjoyed quarantine, after which they can then be free to enjoy whatever remaining time they may have.
However, if they test positive then there time now is spent at a glorious beach front hospital where there 100K US policy will pay for there remaining vacation time in a luxuriosly appointed hospital suite.
No flickking way will anyone, except those expats who have family come and subject themselves to an out of pocket cost nearing the 300,00 baht range, before they can even began to enjoy there time here. Plus jumping through the hoops just to get approved. God forbid you take time off from work to go to through the initial testing but then to be denied or accepted at the discretion of the Royal Thai Embassy in your home country is Ludicrous.
Additionally, what airlines are they going to be allowed to travel on or just specific chartered flights which will only fly on certain timeframes guaranteed by the Thai Government. I personally do not know anyone who has all the free time in the world just to sit on there <deleted> and wait for a vacation that may or may not ever come. Additionally, whose job will allow them to just take off whenever.
This appears to be aimed at those with unlimited funds and High Flyers who will just unfortunately go elsewhere to avoid the three ring Thai circus that this is becoming.
Ok Flame and Rant over.
Very well articulated and sums up the situation perfectly. I have recently jumped through all of the above hoops to get back to Thailand on a state sanctioned repatriation flight and extortionate ASQ hotel booking in Bangkok (only the expensive hotels remaining) and currently in day 10 day of quarantine. The pre-requisite paperwork alone is quite stressful let alone the turmoil of state quarantine which does not allow alcohol to served!! I will then be flying home to Phuket early next week to see my wife and children after being stuck in the UK for 3 months. The prospect of anyone thinking of traveling to Phuket (especially those with young children) for a state sponsored 'penitentiary' style quarantine for 2 weeks (not to mention the invasive PCR tests) to then be allowed to travel within Phuket (no doubt tagged and surveilled) to 'enjoy' the rest of their already expensive holiday is preposterous!! Complete and utter Circus.....

Hi All, Im new to Thai Visa Forum and apologize in advance if this is the wrong thread to provide the following information which i think will be helpful.
I am married to a Thai National and live in Phuket and work in the Oil & Gas industry and do not have a marriage visa as I enter Thailand on a Tourist Visa every time due to working a 28/28 day working cycle. I was stuck in Thailand from March until May (visa extension) before returning to the UK because my father passed away. Like many other Thai Nationals and Foreigners I have been trying to get back to Thailand since early June and have also been hugely frustrated with the almost impossible demands from the Thai Government (Embassy) to qualify to get back. As Tourist on arrival visa's are currently not allowed I completed the online application for a Non O-A visa and scheduled an appointment to deliver my documents in person to the Thai Embassy in London. The UK Thai Embassy clearly states that you must have an ASQ recognized hotel booking before you can register for one of the 3 repatriation flights which were scheduled in August. After eventually booking one of the last remaining very expensive ASQ hotel packages (92'000 baht) which is non-refundable I waited intently for the registration to open on Friday 31st July. With no great surprise the website went into melt-down and I couldn't register - after waiting on hold for nearly an hour a member of the Embassy informed that the site had technical difficulties and to keep trying every hour to which i continued to do all day and eventually gave up around 18.30 that evening. When I resumed my efforts on Sat I was able to enter the site (input my ASQ booking) but couldn't pick the class of flight ticket business or economy and it wouldn't let me progress. I decided to drive to London from North Yorkshire to visit the embassy in person. On Monday morning I tried registering again for the flight only to see that all seats had been booked already and should attempt re-register again in Sept (for the next lottery!). On speaking with a Thai Embassy representative in person and expressing my frustration especially as my ASQ hotel booking was non-refundable he mentioned that "it is not actually a requirement to have the ASQ booking to register for the flight and that you just leave the ASQ booking section blank when registering"!! . I can't obviously validate that this will work but its definitely worth trying rather than losing a non-refundable ASQ booking. The representative did take my contact phone number and said he would try and get me on the 16th Aug flight as not to lose my hotel booking. He did call me several days later and after providing evidence that my hotel booking was indeed non-refundable assigned me a seat on the 16th Aug. I am now in the hotel Quarantine in Bangkok and can only suggest that persistence and direct contact with the Thai Embassy is the path forward for those still stuck in the UK. I hope this helps.
SHA+ Thailand Pass 7 Day Hotel inclusive of PCR Tests
in Phuket
Posted
Hi All,
I am having difficulty with obtaining the Thailand Pass. I booked an SHA+ Hotel and also the PCR Test on arrival at Phuket. However I received notification that my application wasn't approved as my hotel booking did not show that includes the PCR Test. Can anyone advise which hotels in Patong area are offering this service as none of them show this on either booking.com or agoda? Thanks for your assistance in advance - I should be arriving in Thailand on the 10th Dec so slightly frustrated.
