  1. Out of interest, has anyone else had the experience of being phtographed at Imm leaving the airport?.

Last time I arrived, no cameras, last week leaving, picture taken.

Logic?. Reason?. Don't understand as last time at Don Muang on arrival photo taken.

  2. Here's the deal - I am a pilot.

An MOR (mandatory occurence report) has to be filed : Not 'if', 'maybe', 'perhaps'.

it is a legal responsibility of the handling pilot. The non handling pilot under the

Air Navigation Order has the responsiblity to follow this up, regardless of the seniority of the handling pilot or who who he is related to. (Air Safety 101).

Secondly, a Tech Log entry must be made so that the Engineers may assess the damge the the aircraft.

Thirdly, the airport authorities have to made aware of any potential damage to their airport.

    Ergo.........a huge paper trail

And that's how airplanes work and millions of people get to where they want to go every year in safety.

    The paper trail.

One assumes that TG will present the appropriate paperwork to the ICAO?.

  3. Century Park Hotel is very nice...first class hotel. The only comment I would have is that it is not real close to the main shopping/entertainment areas.

This would be the Century Park that is a five minute walk away from Pratunam?.

    Or Ding Daeng?.

It was still in the same place last week.............................

    Nice lunch buffet in there.

  4. Hi All,

I'm confused - (Not unusual in Thailand I admit).

Having finished a previous contract and having had a nice extended holiday, I have been offered

another job commencing at the end of June. (Not teaching).

So, go to Penang with paperwork from said company to obtain a non imm B : Penang say "No"

and that I must produce either a WP or a WP3 and print off a list of the requirements for non imm B, all of which I had except for WP3.

They then kindly issued a tourist visa and told me to make the WP application then return with the WP3 and then could issue a non imm B.

However I note on the WP2, WP application form it says applications will only be accepted

if the applicant has a non imm visa.

This seems like a chicken and egg situation to me:

So, can the company make the application with a tourist visa, get the receipt for the application

and then I can apply for a non imm B, return and have the WP processed?.

This is why I gave it lots of time to prepare!.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Hi All,

Popping down to Penang shortly and it's been many a year since being there.

Can someone give me some info on taxi costs from airport, somewhere reasonable but cheap to stay, and a good visa agent for Thai consulate.

Do UK citizens still get a free one month visa for Malaysia?.

    Many Thanks in advance.

  6. Having been married happilyish for some years and

living here, I'm finding that she treats me as one would a 6 year old child

on his first visit to school. :o

I'm not offended, but as I can run errands to the market and buy stuff and

request in Thai ; fruit, meat, veggies and suchlike she always wants

to write it down for me or insists I take the phone in case I get into difficulties.

I love shopping in the village markets, it improves your vocab and the ladies are a laugh :D

Jeez I've just stubbed my cigarette out in the ashtray and got hut chewing gum all over me finger 'n fum...........mebbe I do need Parental Guidance :D

Does anyone else get treated similarly?

Replies from adults only please :D

Absolutely - she plonks me down in a seat with a cold beer then wanders off to do the shopping thing. Excellent!. :D

    Unidentified Drunken Foreigner

A drunken foreigner was discovered unconscious after falling down and hitting his head on the floor.

At 3.30 am on 4th April the Pattaya Police were informed that a foreigner was found unconscious in a soi near Memorial Hospital and requested assistance from the police.

At the scene the team found the foreigner who was later found to be a Mr. Philip, aged 55 – nationality unknown, unconscious next to the footpath. His left eyebrow was bruised and he had a serious wound on his head – probably caused by his fall.

Witnesses in the area stated that the man was walking and stumbling on the road – it looked like he was drunk and when he stepped onto the footpath, he fell down and hit his head. He was losing a lot of blood so they informed the police.

The team was aiding the man for about 20 minutes until he regained consciousness. However, he was too drunk to talk. His words didn’t make any sense. All the police could do was sent the man to the hospital for further treatment.

    So, nothing new then?.

(I'm waiting for the glad rags to start the "He might have been drugged, medical condition, bleat, bleat..........".).

O.K. - pissed as a rat, falls and whacks his nut - a common sight in blighty. :o

  8. Hi,

I came to Bangkok on a Tourist visa and the 60 days are up tomorrow (Saturday, April 7). I need to extend it for another 30 days. I just realized that today is a holiday and i believe the immigration bureau on Sathorn is closed today and tomorrow. It seems the earliest i can go to the Immgration office to get an extension is Monday, April 9 (2 days after visa expires). Will there be any problems when i go to get a visa extension on monday since i will have overstayed 2 days? will they deny the extension?

    Thanks

You'll be OK - they are really nice down there these days and the girls behind the counter are great fun.

Calenders and dates they can do!.

I am sure some of the board members here can tell of horror stories in yesteryear about visits to Suan Phlu - I remember the first time I was sent to the ' Interrogation Room' - what a title!.

Bright lights and cattle prods it was not. :o

  9. I have noticed that there is a nice swimming pool in Lumpini Park. However it is open to members only and I have not had the opportunity to becoma a member during my short but memorable visits to Lumpini yet.

Now, I would very much like to become a member but I do not not have the name or address to this swimming club, can anyone please help me find the contact information for this club?

    I love Lumpini!

    regards Uffe

A swimming pool in Lumpini Park?. Where?. Wow, been going there for nigh on 15 years and never seen a pool. Mind you, I frequently walk into trees so should maybe try to be more alert!.

Give us some directions plse then I can teach Ms C to swim.

    Thanks.

  10. final point, and the reason i am posting, has to do with the widespread blame of the government. while it would great if the govt had the ability to be everywhere enforcing all it's laws, it just doesn't. Individual responsibility, like the fellow who carries a window breaker, is what is also needed IMO. if the thai people as a culture copy the irresponsible driving behavior of those around them, the government CANNOT stop them. there is a tipping point, beyond which, the lawless and bad overwhelm the law abiding and good. nonetheless, living defensively and calling for positive change is reasonable, so keep up the good work my TV friends. suksonguan songkran...hahaha

    Individual responsibility my a55!

All previous and present government have so far badly neglected road safety, the result is what you can observe now, the "Me, me, me" approach of most Thai drivers whose "sabainess" or jai yen yen vanishes when turning on the ignition.

Thai drivers make up their own laws because they know there's no danger of getting pulled over, period. No paranoia whatsoever of seeing a police cruiser with flashing lights in the rear view mirror.

Expressway, elevated highway, motorway, tollways, 4 lane wide highways, 2 airports, Siam Paragon, Emporium, Mercedes and BMWs everywhere but still, no homogenous and coordinated ambulance system, no patrol cars or motorcycles pulling cars over. Road safety can not be managed from a street corner, sidewalk, toll booth or emergency lane off the highway, those are tea money collecting zones. Ever noticed how fast cars even approach toll booths, fighting their way in, cutting across 8 lanes to save 5 seconds to make it to one of the 16 booths and then take off like a rocket when cars have to merge back into 2 lanes?

The few patrol cars that can be seen are rarely used, usually parked at police stations, if they are actually moving, they are used to transport top brass.

The traffic police themselves have no idea about road safety, are dangerous when using a 4 lane highway for a roadblock, creating jams. I saw a near miss again yesterday at one of those.

    What's wrong in these pictures?

Hang on a mo' and correct me if I'm wrong, but these pics of yours are taken from the front right of a vehicle and portray incidents of dangerous driving?.

Isn't using a camera whilst driving somewhat unsafe?.

    Pots.........kettles.........black?.

  11. Errmmmmm..........I'm feeling especially stupid today. BUT:

A Brit goes to a night club with his camera.

    Sits next to another Brit.

And tries to take pictures of said Brit's girlfriend's knickers?.

I think it is safe to assume that a fair drink had been taken.

    (By both parties).

Or, that one party should return home and continue to steal panties from his neighbours washing lines.

How very strange - why go to a nightclub in Pattaya to take panty shots?.

A purple one would have seen him o.k. for an afternoon's fun in the privacy of his own room!.

    Daft.

Now, if he is reading this - Ms C has a few pairs to replace and at a special discount price, you can buy them. Washed is 2000 B per pair, unwashed is 5000 per pair.

    Let me know :o

Jealous Husband gets Clobbered by Wife

. All the police could charge her with “having a weapon in public for no good reason”.

:o:D:D Amazing Thailand indeed.............."Having a weapon in public for no good reason".

So, it's O.K. if you have a good reason?. What defines a 'good reason'?.

Now there's a couple of real, real, idiot, pretend, gangsters (farang) wot I know of and who seriously need removed from the gene pool.

So if I trog off down Sukhumvit AKA Rambo is that 'good reason'?.

I think we should be told........................

  13. Tsk, tsk.

Now, all the "We are in Thailand brigade and must live by their rules".

Fact : Thais do not start hitting each other over the head.

Do that and an early arrival in the next life is likely.

Any Thai starts smacking me around the head in public is going to get the standard, in public lecture (verbally) about his or her manners.

Cop, drunk, or not drunk cop, simply unacceptable behaviour.

  14. OK... we've had our fun... please keep the discussion to "the snatch" and not "her snatch".

    Thank you.

    :o

That's a bit off isn't it?. I mean refering to a person as the 'the'.

She was snatched from, therefore it was her snatch. Or was it his snatch?.

All rather confusing - English instructors may inform us on the useage as wot like they speak.

Was he the snatchee and she the snatchess or snatchessed?.

I fink we should be told.

    :D

    Truck Stolen While Eating Noodles

A housewife went out to buy something to eat at a noodle stall and within 10 minutes, she turned around to find that her pickup truck had been stolen – from right behind her back!

While the investigating officer of Dongtan Sub-Station was working at his desk at 7.40 pm on 14th March a lady walked in with a very surprised look on her face saying that her pickup truck had just been stolen. It took the police a while to calm her down before she could give a statement.

Miss Rawi Jitchuen, aged 41, told the police that she resides at View Point Village. Earlier she drove her Nissan pickup truck to the Mae La-Or local market in Soi Wat Boon Karnjanaram Temple to buy some seafood as she was holding a party at home before flying overseas.

On her way back, she stopped at a noodle stand by the road and jumped out to get some noodles, without turning off the engine because there were lots of people in that area – nothing could have happened she thought.

She later regretted this careless act because when she turned around the truck was speeding off – heading for Sukhumvit Road.

The police made a report and are now searching for the truck.

Presumably left the engine running for the air con: Idiot. She deserved to have it stolen.

    Flying overseas eh?.

Why do I feel an insurance scam coming on?.

Would insurance cough up in these circumstances?. Shouldn't think so, therefore she may be more stupid than at first reading. :o

  16. just forget that after some years tortured in Guantanamo Bay you would confess that you killed your own mother even if she is still alive.

With the right methods (DDR (GDR) made a lot research, but is seems also the USA isn't lazy on that) you can make anyone so crazy that he is sure that he did it even it is not true and he has detailed memories of all details.

So such propaganda news are not worth the bits in the wire....

Absolutely - I remember the various types that I met when in the military. The Military Intelligence guys used to maintain that they could have anyone admitting to anything within 24 hours even if it was a complete fabrication and was behind closed doors.

Coercion, drugs, beatings..............ooohhhh, a whole host of things.

    Nasty people indeed.

  17. Isnt the OP talking about a conviction he got IN Thailand?

If it is I'm suprised he wants to come back! hehe

How relevant this is today I don't know, however, I knew a guy who got busted for a bit of grass

    around Sukhumvit eleven years ago.

Wasn't jailed but had to report to the BIB daily until his court date which was quite prompt.

Pled guilty and was fined and it was a small fine.

Didn't have to leave the country.

Another guy was caught smoking a joint in the Nana Hotel toilets - cost him 50,000 Baht for everyone to 'forget' it.

(Exchange rate was about 36-39 to the pound if I recollect correctly).

It was suggested that he left the country, which he prmptly did. (Came back though).

  18. We are looking at travelling to Thailand from Australia, however I need to obtain guidance on the 'Persons not to enter the Kingdom' ruling.

Does an old conviction of possession of illegal drug (was personal marijuana - not considered dealing) get noted on the blacklist or reported at immigration/customs?

Does any one know the specifics on convictions recorded? There was no imprisonment.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I know guys here from Denmark who are receiving funds from the Danish government to help rehabilitate them from a major drug habit and they have been allowed to live here long term. s long as they and you don't do drugs here then I don't see any problems myself. As far as I am aware, tourists don't get screened for previous criminal offences because if they did, Pattaya would be empty of foreigners :o

I know one guy living in Pattaya who DOES NOT have a criminal record.

    That's a start then.................... :D

  19. Great suggestions t.s. agreed 100% ( for a change :D )

However, regards the Bayoke recomendations made by other posters, I gotta say Bayoke restaurant is skank. Horrible food, overpriced and nasty decor, the only redeeming factor is the view.

Is this Bayoke 1 or 2?. Ms C and self enjoy the lunchtime buffet in Bayoke 2 from time to time.

    Beats Jools hands down........ :o:D:D

I also like the way that the staff come around and encourage you to eat more.

Not that Ms C needs any encouragement!.
