  1. Maybe he forgot…

    October 30th:

Under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree, a new order has been issued, signed by General Chalermpol Srisawat, Chief of Defence Forces, banning gatherings and activities deemed to pose a "risk of spreading Covid-19 throughout the country". The order was published in the Royal Gazette on Friday 30 October 2021 and states that all gatherings that pose a risk of spreading coronavirus disease or worsening the plight of people are banned throughout the country.

FDA authorizes COVID breath test for emergency use

"The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday authorized for emergency use the first COVID-19 test based on breath samples, a system that looks for chemical signatures of infection and can provide a result in about 3 minutes.

    ...

In its announcement yesterday, the FDA said the device, from Texas-based InspectIR, is about the size of a piece of carry-on luggage and is designed for use in settings such as doctor's offices, hospitals, and testing sites. Testing is done by qualified, trained operators under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers.

    ...

The FDA said a large study found 91.2% sensitivity [the percent of positive samples the test correctly identified] and 99.3% specificity [the percent of negative samples the test correctly identified] for the test. A follow-up study that focused the Omicron variant found similar sensitivity results."

No mention made in the FDA's announcement of just how much these little machines are going to be priced at...

But the announcement did say... InspectIR expects to be able to produce approximately 100 instruments per week, which can each be used to evaluate approximately 160 samples per day.

Whatever happened to the Covid sniffing dogs?

Chonburi announces 1,283 new and confirmed cases of Covid-19 and three new deaths

    Highlights:

1,283 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Chonburi today

8,306 positive ATK (rapid antigen) tests were reported but all require a second confirmed PCR test before being counted as official cases. The ATK positive tests are just “possible” cases until confirmed by PCR. TPN notes, however, that second confirmed tests are no longer mandatory except for high-risk groups.

1,191 (PCR) and 4,732 (ATK) recovered and were released from medical care

    Three new deaths

    https://thepattayanews.com/2022/03/30/chonburi-announces-1283-new-and-confirmed-cases-of-covid-19-and-three-new-deaths/

And those 8,306 positive ATKs in Chonburi amount to just under one third of the national total 25,397.

And only 2 tested positive in the Prison system

Thats only 2 among a population of over 300,000

This is a number that I find very difficult to believe, given the rapid rise of the Omicron Variant and its speed of transmission and infection rate, and the conditions in which Prisoners are kept.

It would appear that the Authorities are trying to revert back to the Smoke and Mirrors we all witnessed during the initial stages of the Delta wave .

and 2 found from pro-active testing.

Luckily, the other sources that create 88% of GDP fair pretty well, so far.  So, why to worry too much about Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin? The majority of the Thai population live somewhere else. Perhaps the money for the overinvested tourism facilities could be used for some other purposes more useful for the population.

And some of the 12% of the tourism will still be maintained by Thai people and the other residents.

Maybe because foreign tourism is an export i.e. money brought into the country.

Is there any sane reason why the numbers of Inoculations for Today is exactly the same as Yesterday at 646,126

Another " anomaly " in the MOPH facts and figures.

    Hmmm

Check out the date in the bottom right hand corner.  The dashboard has now been updated to show vaccinations from the 24th (765,845 - somewhat fewer than the 1 million +)

Well it is down to what the government's Covid committee thinks that matters, and by the sound of it, they're moving in one particular direction (thankfully, as far as I'm concerned).

I do agree about reopening for tourism, though.  Maybe some more "sandboxes", but reopening the day-to-day economy (workplaces, restaurants, shops, schools) is far more important and needs to happen soon.

    A Bangkok sandbox perhaps?

Here's the latest estimates of the true number of covid cases in Thailand from the "Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME)" taken from Ourworldindata.

If you take the mean estimate we can see it is around 70,000 per day.

"A key limitation in our understanding of the COVID-19 pandemic is that we do not know the true number of infections. Instead, we only know of infections that have been confirmed by a test – the confirmed cases. But because many infected people never get tested,2 we know that confirmed cases are only a fraction of true infections. How small a fraction though?

To answer this question, several research groups have developed epidemiological models of COVID-19. These models use the data we have – confirmed cases and deaths, testing rates, and more – plus a range of assumptions and epidemiological knowledge to estimate true infections and other important metrics."

It allows you the alternative to only count cases and deaths since April 1 2021, and not since the beginning... But either way, the vax numbers in the blue box stay the same.

Agreed, but some of the other figures do change, so it looks like the graphic isn't working properly.  Anyway, it's only an idea as to why the numbers are different.
