  1. Mrs. Moon from Chiang Mai immigration bureau spoke to the Chiang Mai Expats Club, about beginning this year, explaining visa stuff.

She personally stated to me that the three month proof for the 800,000.- Baht is NOT required when applying for an extension of retirement visa. Only first time application. I think Jingting is right. But again the man who is right is sitting behind that desk, not standing in front.

  2. Not sure what TTT and related people are up to these days, but it is a ###### shame. Overseas connections haven't been as bad as since september. Sometimes even nothing works. If they steal bandwidth from eachother, that's fine with me, but that doesn't mean they can steal from us. We have to pay for our speed (actually quite expensive compared worldwide), but get crap in return. When you complain, they come up with great figures of national speeds and it's probably your own fault, because you are using a linesplitter or whatever they can think of is your fault.

Like already stated, I also believe they do alot of filtering on the internet addresses abroad. There were times I could not get peer to peer software working and then suddenly I can, without changing anything to my computer. Duh?

If you have your line open and unused for some time, you better reset your modem, cause you have been put on a dead end.

To my opinion one shouldn't be checked on what sites you visit or how much you download as long as you buy by the rules of law. Possibly, there is also censorship on the Thai web, so beware what you say or do. We all know about Youtube.

  3. Some of you say that Thai economy is not affected by farang having to leave Thailand.

I live in Chiang Mai and when I compare biss now against one year ago, I would say it is alot less now or better say dramatic. Reasons? Whatever one believes; coup, tsunami, smog, but probably also abandoning visa runners and other anti faranf measures.

Not only in Chiang Mai, but also much more quiet in Pattaya, Phuket and all other southern places so I am told by Thai people.

I say economy will be affected but might be half as bad as I think.

  4. Hi Ben,

    you can stay here.

As soon as you have informed all about your new address here you pay 0% tax in the Netherlands because there is an agreement about that between Thailand and the Netherlands. Just contact me on how to pay also no tax here legally as it's income from previous work you pay here also o% tax, same as I. And you still can build up your AOW, just pay to the Sociale Verzekeringsbank the premie, I also do the same.

    Succes.

    Henk.

I like to have more information regarding the tax agreement between Thailand and the Netherlands. Can you tell me the internet link about this subject?

    Kind regards,

    Henry

As good as it seems, but watch out for the 'resident' exclusion in that treaty. Residents pay tax and as far as the Revenue Dept (tax office) is concerned, you are considered a (taxable) resident if you live in Thailand more than 180 days a year. This is in fact when you have a non-immigrant visa type (*), Normally if you have income NOT from work, such as a life insurance, in Holland, you don't have to pay tax in Thailand, but if you are a resident you do have. Funny though I didn't find that chapter back in the treaty described on http://www.rd.go.th/publish/784.0.html.

I've been to the Revenue Dept in Chiang Mai and I tell you I better not go there again as they really don't know what is going on, same as the Belastingdienst Buitenland (foreign tax office) in Heerlen.

Here's what I did. Requested the form 'Verzoek vrijstelling inhouding loonbelasting........' according article 47 at the Heerlen office. Filled it in and sent it to the organisation who pays me and withholds tax normally. They sent it back to Heerlen and what Heerlen wants from you is a formal paper that you live in Thailand. Best formal paper is an approved tax declaration/payment, but in my case all I did was sent Heerlen a Resident Certificate which can be obtained at immigration offices at no cost. Sofar only payed SV premium and by jove, don't know why that is.

Hope this brings you any further. Best advise is however to do your homework and google like hel_l and don't rely to much on forums and I know this includes myself.

  5. Here we go again. Everyone gives info and everyone knows it better and no-one reads well.

The man was asking about a renewal and not a first application. Why do you give this man the first time requirements Blackjack. Rules as the 5 disseases.

And for a renewal of a one year visa, you don't need a letter of medical inspection anymore. Latest rules. If you apply for a renewal, you don't need to show finances three month ahead. That's only for the first timers. Sigh

  6. I am a resident in Thailand and read the thaivisa posts for quite a while already.

What strikes me is that hardly no-one gets a straight answer. Everyone knows something.

Same like in this post, where the poster bzalt is giving his specs and gets unrelated answers.

He himself states that he gets confused by answers giving here. Looks like people like to believe they know something, but hardly anyone knows it all. The fact that I don't answer questions is that I also don't know it all, but I keep silent.

Almost all Thai embassee's abroad (that is in your own country) give you a one year multi entry non-immigrant visa, with probably a simple income requirement of a bank account stating the amount of a detour ticket.

What is wrong with you bzalt, why not just go to your national/regional Thai embassy and ask them politely what the requirements are. Seems like many are afraid of asking or being refused. Thai can get firmly by the book, but what is wrong with rules? If you apply to the rules, they (Thai) will happily give you the required documents.
