  1. Called into my local today for a couple of Leo's. After a week away in the village they produce a new style of Leo big.

Instead of the usual 630ml bottles  now I get a new design bottle with 620ml.

Seems Singh beer company have reduced the content.  Anyone else come across this yet?

  2. Should have a sign in BIG BLOCK LETTERS telling people to frikken shower BEFORE going to Immigration. When I'm one of the first people in line when the office opens in the morning and I can smell stale BO from people ahead and behind me that smell like they haven't showered in 2-3 days (at least) then something's wrong. (When I was in the army and we'd be out on field exercises sometimes you could go days without being able to shower or change clothes - some of the people going to Immigration smell that bad and there's no excuse for it.)

Frikken shower, use some deodorant and clean clothes before going to Immigration. No bluddy wonder some people have a hard time when they go there.

You must've been standing in the line for British expats!!!! ???

  3. Idea purloined from another forum and aimed at English TVF members

However, all members welcome to comment but please keep it civil, this is a fun thread and not an excuse for English bashing or racism.

So, who would you say is the greatest living Englishman (or English woman), who is our greatest national treasure.

It impossible for me to put them in the correct order but my top 5 has to be:

    Sir Ranulph Fiennes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranulph_Fiennes

    Brian Blessed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Blessed

    Sir David Attenborough http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Attenborough

    Stephen Hawking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Hawking

    Sir Steven Redgrave http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Redgrave

As you ask for a living person. There's none.

Only good Pommie is a dead one....???

  4. I think now I have answered the OP`s question that there no longer any point in keeping this thread open. The rest of the replies are like bad jokes that keep getting repeated time and time again.

For those who have nothing constructive to add to these threads, why bother participating at all?

Well excuse the rest of us for breathing Mr. High and Mighty Beetlejuice, your not the only member on TV that has the right to make a comment, if you don't like the comments then don't read them. MOVE ON....

  5. The sooner that civilians are allowed to carry arms the better what is needed is a Thai NRA, no more punch ups.

Oh dear, don't you think there are enough guns and gun crime about in Thailand?

Surely that is the argument put forward, to make you feel safer we need lots more guns. After all I feel a whole lot safer when I see someone walk into a coffee shop or hardware shop with an automatic rifle strapped over his shoulder.

This is either a gee up or your a red neck American. I not to sure which!!!

  6. Time to learn some Thai. It's a relatively easy language.

It's actually one of the most difficult to learn for a Westerner.

Not really. I'm completely fluent in it and sound like a Thai - and I know I'm not the only one. You just need some street smarts and stop instinctively speaking Thai using your native accent or letting your native accent interfere with learning Thai. In any given country one should be able to pick up the local language and eventually become fluent over time if residing in said country for an extended period.

It also helps a lot if you are already bilingual or fluent in other languages before attempting Thai. I grew up speaking multiple languages since birth, so have a bit of a gift when it comes to language acquisition. Having said that, I don't want to brag but all I can say is Thai really isn't that difficult. I see so many westerners speaking Chinese quite well whenever I'm in China (I personally only speak intermediate conversational Chinese, including some reading and writing) so I can't understand the difficulty about learning Thai amongst westerners when Chinese is so much more difficult, mainly due to the many characters you need to learn, and also the ability to decipher the difference between it's many, many homophones (words that sound the same but have different meanings).

Thai actually doesn't have that many homophones, it's more about being able to tell the difference between words that have different meanings based on changes in pitch or tones (to a trained ear they do sound different hence why strictly speaking I wouldn't consider them to be homophones unless they have the same tone and same pronunciation). Apart from that, you have to assume that English homophones (pick any 2 words that sound the same but have different meanings) are not going to be the same in Thai. For example, to wear (an item of clothing) and wear (as in this bicycle tire/tyre shows signs of wear or deterioration).

This is one of the biggest problems I've always faced when learning new languages - making those incorrect assumptions about the transferability of homophones. In Thai to wear a piece of clothing is "sai" for example "sai seua", while wear or deterioration is "seuk" or "seuk hro". So completely different words are used - you can't say "sai" when referring to a worn bicycle tyre. It just doesn't make one bit of sense.

Wow, your 1 smart ding a ling aren't you. I couldn't be bothered to read your entire story of tripe, but I'm sure that you have been here for a 100 years and are so experienced in Thai life.

Maybe you also have your Thai citizenship if your so good at the Thai language.

  7. You retro-fitted airbag systems into secondhand non-airbag vehicles? Really?

Sure must have been expensive, what with slip rings, sensors, solenoid valves for each wheel, computer for ABS, different computer for engine management, new brake lines, airbag triggers, new steering wheel, new dash to accommodate passenger side airbag, ...

How ever did you get your money back ?

I'm pretty sure the OP thinks it's April 1st and the laugh is on us...

  8. I believe the Amphurs have dog catchers. Contact the local offices I would guess.

The solution as to what is done with them is likely the final solution.

Confirmed.... I remember some 20 years ago on Samui, there were really lots of strays everywhere.

One day, some official looking geezers killed them with poisoned arrows, fired from air rifles. I saw a truck, full of dead dogs, taking them to...... god knows where they took them.

That was very cruel and so sad to see. Hope it will never happen again. They are just poor animals with no rights whatsoever.

    rather like us then

No... Soi dogs have more rights than a falang in Thailand. They come just behind the water buffalo and before the garbage rats... Then comes the Falang.

  9. I sense a rising rebellion of farangs against injustice, rightly so. You will stomped into mud. Thais and this government in particular don't care one bit for us or apparently even our money now. Immigration knows full well 'we' do not carry passport for good reasons. Why do I feel this is directed toward "western" type farangs and not Asian? Paranoia, yea that's it, paranoia. I foresee a lot of Issan women losing their ATM's. I won't be carrying my passport on me either, I will carry an extra 2,000 baht. The reality of things is we have no power, we have to wait and see and perhaps activate those dusty contingency plans we thought we would never have to use.

And are you going to ask for a receipt for your 2000thb fine???
Do you think you can pay your fine and walk away without them seeing your passport???
Either the BIB are going to be busy with the Immigration guys on their shoulder or this will be a bust exercise.

  11. Hi all,

Can anybody in the Pattaya, Sattahip areas provide me with a contact for a installer of water bores.

I currently have a well on my property but it is always running out of water and I think a deep bore would solve the problem.

Thanks for any info in advance.

Can PM me if you want to keep details private.
