I got a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa in May using a letter of support from Employer X, however I never received a work permit thru this employer and now no longer work for them. (This was a small NGO who was not willing to support me thru the whole work permit process, but I ended up not wanting to work for them for other reasons.)
I now want to work for Employer Y, which is a language center which is willing to support me thru the work permit process. Since my O visa is good for another 9 months and from what I understand work permits are allowed on O visas, can I use my current, exisitng "O" visa to apply for a work permit through this new employer?
If I can use my current visa, what is the procedure to get the work permit?
If not, then what do I need to do?
FYI- I'll be returning to the US in about a month and can take care of required procedures from that end while I am there, but I need to know what paper work will be required and necessary to get organized before I leave Thailand...
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your comments! My only question is: what does the "higher income requirement for the Non-O" mean? Does that mean I need to be making a certain level of income from this employer? I was planning to work there only part-time...
Thanks!
