  1. The government should be ashamed of itself. It is one of the reasons that soon, Vietnam's GDP will exceed Thailand's. Appoint an education minister with the task of substantially improving English in schools, and throughout Thailand. Bring in school inspectors to see its progress. Pass a law that every Thai sign; name, or government instruction must show the English translation. Like it or not, English is now the international language.
  2. It does not help that Thailand is in the bottom 10 of some 130 countries in English proficiency, whereas nearly all young people in Vietnam can speak and read English. Outside the major cities almost no Thais can understand English. The Thai government ought to be ashamed of itself in this matter. They should appoint an education minister whose task it is to correct this. They should also decree that all public signs and messages in Thai show the English translation. This would help. Like it, or not, English is now the International Language, and if Thailand wants to compete on the international stage, they should get their act together.
  3. Is this the relaxation of the alcohol laws that has been discussed for yonks? 🙂
  4. "A Malaysian academic claiming Malaysia’s natural landscapes are “400 times more beautiful” than Thailand’s". 400 times, how did he arrive at that number? Why not twice as good, why not 1,000 times as good! How can a beauty in anything be measured by a number? Malaysian academics 400 times worse than academics from any other country!
  5. One of the answers is to employ native English speaking teachers who know how to communicate in Thai, vocal and written, to teach English. I have yet to meet a Thai who is proficient enough to teach English.
  6. The big takeaway from this is that America can never be trusted again. Not wishing to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, Thailand must now look for new trading partners for its exports.
  7. Maybe also put a high tax on revenue generated from Thailand by American tech companies such as that generated from Facebook, Google, Amazon ads, Netflix, Apple, etc.
  8. Thailand should now recognise that America cannot be trusted, ever again. It should look for new customers and get economically closer to China. Maybe it should increase its prices even further on certain food products such as rice and shrimp and really let the American consumer suffer even worse, remembering that the American consumer is the American voter.
  9. Why jump from one extreme to another. Some people wish to use it as a recreational drug, just as they do with cigarettes. Banning the substance is not the answer; it will only create pushers, jail more users, waste police time. Why not make it less available: 1. restrict the number of outlets (say 2 in Pattaya, 4 in Bangkok, etc) by charging a huge licence fee, to the highest bidders. 2. charge a very high duty on the sale of the product. Like cigarettes the product should not be flaunted to the sight if non-users and children.
  10. One million per cent agree. No Thai has ever taken a "proper" test!
  11. Guilty or not, I dunno, but he clearly puts wealth ahead of health.
  12. But then they opened the beaches, hotels and some bars but banned tourists. It was great; open roads, easy shopping, being customer appreciated in restaurants and shops, and dirt cheap luxury hotels in great resorts. One of my best times in Thailand.
  13. FYI. I got Covid about 10 weeks ago. I suffered a lot more than the first time that i got it about 2 years ago (which was very mild), and, although the Covid lasted for a week or two, still feeling whacked out every day for the last 10 weeks.
  14. 1. Reduce the massive import tax on wine. 2. Restaurants should uplift the price by 50% not 100%+ 3. True dinners would then start to eat out more often.
