  1. hi,

need to get some advice from people who know - thank you!

i am german living in germany, have traveled to thailand many times, stayed here in all more than 2 years. i always did on 30 day tourist visa on arrival. i have never worked here.

now my problem: on arrival this time, i did not receive a 30 day visa. upon seeing my many visa stamps, the officer decided to give me just 29 days - one day less than i need. when i asked, she suggested leaving the country to get a new visa which will include this last day missing. not nice.

since i have no experience with this matter at all and did not find answers in the forum valid after august 12, i please need to know:

1 - if i leave the country and come back, do i get another visa on arrival? or do i need to get an extension at a consulate? how much is it?

2 - how many days do i get when doing this visa run as a tourist (ie when can i do it earliest planning to leave sept 09)?

3 - what will i expect if not extending my visa and showing up at the airport with my visa one day short?

thank you so much in advance!
  2. ...no problem on my old mac powerbook G4.

getting the grey screen means download has not finished or been aborted. retry and watch for progress in download window (to view press option command L).

you do not need acrobat reader on a mac. preview works fine with almost any pdf. just double click the file.

    good luck!

  3. hi,

i am using an iPhone 3G (without SIM-lock from italy, software 2.2) with an AIS 1-2-call SIM here in thailand. internet, google maps etc etc work fine. i have configured 2 pop email accounts (from gmx.de and o2online.de) that work fine on wireless (WLAN), i can send and receive emails without problems. on GPRS/EDGE, though, i can only receive mails, sending does not work (prompt 'cannot access server xxx'). changing the sending mail server from original to mail.cscoms.com does not help.

    any suggestions?

    thanks a lot in advance!

  4. hi there,

since i have been searching many forums looking for a good language school, i would like to give back my recommendations to the many people still searching out there.

i am from germany, m 42 yo, and i had some basic knowledge of thai speaking and reading - but far from considering myself advanced.

after intense web research and a (free) trial lesson i ended up with p&a language center at silom. i took 3 weeks (2-3 hours a day) of 1to1 tuition. i think i do really benefit from these lessons. staff is competent, friendly and flexible in terms of schedule and curriculum. though everybody there speaks english extremely well, you start speaking thai from the very first minute. they have farang and asian clients. best: lessons really are fun (yes, it's true!) due to their nice staff. after 3 weeks, i can manage most standard situations like taxi, restaurants, light conversations and small talk. reading is okay, too. prices are competitive (not the cheapest around, but definitely a bargain compared to 'big names').

my advice: check them out - it's free. and have fun.

check www.pathaicenter.com for infos and rates.

    tom
