  1. Hospital numbers probably more accurate. Deaths? From what I have read, and not 100% sure, a doctor does not have to certify a death in Thailand, a village headman/woman or other official can do it I believe so how many have succumbed to covid to be classed as pneumonia or some other reason. We have all seen that the excess deaths have been considerably higher than the official covid related deaths so I think the jury's out on that one.
  2. If they actually tested and published true numbers maybe people would listen to them. If I was in Bangkok and saw a figure of only 1000 odd I'd think' No problems here, population 7-8million, virus is not widespread, carry on as normal. Reap what you sow.
  3. Agree, informing the population of true situation lets them know of the risk to themselves. As you say, under reporting leads to a false sense of security and people disregard the rules.
  4. I'm not surprised, low PCR testing, low proactive testing, not count ATK, possible incarceration for reporting a positive ATK. Chonburi today all walk-ins bar 40 from the world. If these were the real numbers then everything should be open. https://ddc.moph.go.th/covid19-dashboard/?dashboard=province
  5. Not always true. A chap I know ended up locking himself in his bedroom at night because he was worried what his missus would do. Think she was a wild one. Paid her off in the end.
  6. Getting more like China/North Korea everyday. Criticize authorities and jailed plus the new media bill they are pushing through.
  7. Pretty clear now some provinces are not counting cases amongst foreigners. Pattaya reported 873 today but MOPH site states 896, 23 from 'world'. https://thepattayanews.com/2022/01/12/chonburi-led-by-banglamung-with-400-announces-873-new-and-confirmed-cases-of-covid-19-and-no-new-deaths/?fbclid=IwAR0vVHuiML0ttfa9H_77pFj1qK30yFe1z2WXHfxVzu3CHyHuBCflNIHN7dY https://ddc.moph.go.th/covid19-dashboard/?dashboard=provinceAre they now trying to 'muddy' the fact that tourists are possibly picking up the virus in Thailand?
  8. It has taken hold, just people not testing or home test and not report. Remember in Thailand positive test equals possible incarceration, especially if farang.
  9. Ah but maybe the reduction in Omicron cases is slower than the reduction in Delta, maybe that's what he meant to say, TBH I don't believe anything that comes out of the mouths of officials when it relates to covid in Thailand.
  10. That's ok, just don't look for or test for it anywhere, it'll go away, nothing to see, move along, were all good.
  11. Interesting read, thanks for the link. As he states in his writing, the world's leaders have to decide what level of acceptance to have with covid and, much like flu I suspect, countries will reach that stage through vaccination and monitoring. As the WHO has said until poorer countries get it under control through vaccination there is always the threat of a nasty mutation cropping up. Could say the world got lucky and Omicron mutated into a more transmissible but less deadly strain but it could easily go the other way.
  12. Endemic is when a virus or disease is present in low levels without any restrictions to prevent it. I think you'll find were a way from that yet. The UK government was spouting that and the scientists pounced on it.
  13. Same UK but political suicide if they done that on a whim. UK government has basically said it would be a last resort.
  14. Funny but we know what Thai authorities are like, they probably would.
  15. Quick, shut the schools, Yong has spoken, but keep all nonessential places open.
  16. These numbers just show the Thai authorities for what they truly are, all about the lies and save face. BS.
  17. Not much business for hotels so they need to get them opened as Hospitels but need a market for them, same as Pattaya.
  18. Feel sympathy for those who cannot have a vaccine for medical reasons but they should get an exemption from passes etc. Those who choose not to are the ones clogging up hospitals in general now. Solution, at least in UK, you get I'll, you pay. Brutal but MHO, if they have to pay they can go into private hospital and free up NHS. Bit different scenario in Thailand but the lack of boosters and good courses of 'western' vaccine could be a problem. Like you say, if you choose to not have vaccine be it on yourself to look after yourself.
  19. Said before the true restaurants will get rolled into the 'bar/restaurants' in footing the blame. The town halls issued the licences when it was obvious that they were still going to operate as bars so blame lays with them. Meanwhile those proper restaurants that have been open months will suffer along with the bars. Question is would these bars have converted to restaurants if alcohol was still not allowed on eateries? Of course not so it was obvious to anyone, officials included, what would happen and how they would operate, regardless of licence status
  20. Problem with low testing, low numbers to sequence and see which variant is circulating. Knowing true case numbers gives you an idea of how virus is spreading and planning to be taken place for health services, etc.
  21. Hospital up by 3000 odd on yesterday, as said concentrate on hospital numbers.
