    Why a 77X?

Well thats easy, the options within the TG fleet none of them are a good fit for 500 odd mile domestic route.

Pick your poison; B77X, A330, A350, A380(that just makes me laugh, so they probably would), or a B78X.

Of their fleet the 78X would be the least worst option

Thai Airways puts the brakes on new Boeing 777s

The airline says it's in negotiations with Boeing over the fate of three factory-fresh 777s with new first class suites.

    But then again...

Exclusive: BOC Aviation agrees 777-300ER leases

Singapore-based lessor BOC Aviation confirms that it has outstanding orders for three new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and that all three aircraft have been contractually agreed to go on operating lease with Thai Airways. The aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2021.

The first aircraft has been produced; it was painted into Thai Airways’ base colours this week. Airfinance Journal understands that the three incoming 777-300ERs will have the internal airline code ‘77V’ and that they will be the first Thai Airways 777-300ER aircraft to feature first class seating.

    YMMV.

The silence surrounding the purchase of these aircraft is ear shattering. As one of the articles points out these aircraft were purchased in 2018 at a time when THAI was already in deep financial trouble. The lure of the envelopes must have been too strong. And no one is saying that THAI will be let off to hook to take delivery. Another story says there is desperate negotiations taking place to to try and wriggle out of the contract. But mum's the word....no one is saying anything. THAI needs another threes 777s like they need a hole in the head. That's on top of the 20 they already have .

Has any comment been made about any sales made in the recent aircraft fire sale?

  2. There is a news report on 9th December that THAI is getting three new Boeing 777 it ordered back in 2018 in the days when envelopes flowed freely. Not long agao they retired 12  Boeing 777s. Now they are trying desperately to wriggle out of the deal by renegotiations. They will shortly run out of cash. If this report is factual and there is no reason to believe it isn't then things will get even more interesting especialy if it can't squirm out of the contract.

    The half-wits have spoken.

To provide evidence to your comment it is to be noted in the White Paper submitted by the Thai Chamber of Commerce includes heavy emphasis on "medical and wellness" tourism.  Greater detail of the  TCC White Paper reveals the plan places particular emphasis on the "wellness" part of it.  It is to be noted such "wellness" will have key promotional factors including "story-telling" and "promotional events" in cooperation with local communities.  It is questionable whether people get a buzz of "wellness" when they listen to the PM's story-telling or when he takes to the media to promote himself.

So a Khunpluem approved of the building in 2008 before ordering a stop to construction in 2014 and its destruction in 2016. What's the odds on another Khunpluem winning the demolition tender?

Verically challenged Sontaya Khunpluem is the godfather of the Khunpluem family and was appointed Mayor by Prayut in 2018 using Article 44. Sontaya is Prayut's eyes and ears in Pattaya and can do as he likes. Likewise his family has the same privileges.

  5. Another day, another dream, and another artist's impression. There's an endless stream of them.......shipping canals, suburban canals, grandiose airports, high speed trains, slow speed dual track trains, suburban trams, super highways connecting EEC and SEC to the Kra canal. If this project gets the approval of PM Prayut it's as good as getting the kiss of death. It will never be heard of again.

I thought some some guy said rubber prices would go to 100 baht per kilo recently?I

I wonder if he changed his Crystal ball...or got jailed under the Computer Crimes Act for false or misleading information.

You are right. The Covid rubber glove demand was going to send rubber prices through the roof. Plus all the rubber that was going to be used on the roads and highways for posts and railings and road paving. It was going to be the new El Dorado of Thailand. Plus back in September last year the government was proposing giving rubber growers a 26 BILLION baht subsidy to help improve their incomes. What went wrong?

I remember recent reports the government was  looking into ending double pricing.  How much time do they need? One for you Deputy PM Wisanu Kruangam?

It is an ongoing mull and besides it has to go through a number of committees before a decision can't be reached. Thai government committees are designed so as to avoid making any final decision.

A building full.of old men. What a loving husband. LOL only in Thailand do you get employed based on pictures and licking quality

The job could have been purchased as they quite often are. Would have cost hubby a baht or three but it brings in a fat new income. Good investment and easy job. Just catwalk around carrying papers and looking the part.

Donuts not making any impact then?

Not yet. Donut income is still in the process of being divvied up. Anything left over wont amount to much. But the cutlery and crockery fire sale could be just the thing to turn the cashflow tide. The fun is just starting. They will be out of cash next month and if they don't sell any planes where will the money come from to pay those consultants handling their rehabilitation plan? The auditors haven't signed off probably because they know they wont be paid.

  10. "The ten years from 2011 to 2020 was billed as a decade to end the carnage". Yes but in 2014 Prayut pressed the reset button and included it in his 20 year plan 2014 to 2034. Which included stopping corruption, solving Bangkok's traffic problems and making everyone happy. Give him a break! Early days yet. He can't build HS train systems, new futuristic airports, new shipping ports, EEC and SEC industrial zones and new shipping canals and at the same time be messing around with road safety....a killer far greater than Covid. Fair go.

Yeesh! Desperate times when you have to resort to that kind of rhetoric, Steven.

I suggest that many in the crowd would be civil servants just doing their job. Security people and minders and other ancillary staff that any Prime Minister would need on such an occasion. So in a sense they were paid if they were working as part of their duties. Nothing libellous about that I would have thought. Maybe they were given some free flowers the same as the PM.
