  1. Thank you for the response. So all the forms she needs can be downloaded?

    Thanks again, Chris

An American friend of mine also had his Packet 3 "lost in the post".

He then downloaded the forms from the Internet, but at the BNH hospital in Bangkok he was told the medical forms are the wrong forms.

Sorry I don't know the details, but it might be worth a check.

Fortuately the American embassy is close to the BNH and he was able to pick up a full Packet 3 and be back at the hospital within the hour.

    Good luck.

  2. I am using my friends account to ask some questions of you.

    1. What are the best places to meet thai women?

If I go the doctor, the store, or anywhere inwhich I can easily talk to a girl, I am probably 95%+ at getting her phone number. It is very easy this way. However, if I try to approach a thai girl waiting for the BTS, she looks at me like I am crazy. Sometimes she will not even respond to me and look in other direction. For the record, I am 25 year old farang, thin. I usually wear a collar t-shirt and a pair of khacki shorts. I try to walk up to Thai girls in a shopping mall, but they are so shy. Some will smile but will not really talk with you. Others will look away entirely.

    Try changing the shorts!

  3. Well the Big Buddha day u r talking about is on Sunday 29th and if u call from America it would be Saturday. In Thai culture, Buddhist people usually go to the Temple to pursue merit. Each month, there'll be 2 Big Buddha days. On the 23rd is not a buddha day. Actually it is the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day(The 5th King) and it's a national holiday too..

I suspect that Sunday 29th was a normal Buddha day, which occurs every 6,7 or 8 days.

Big Buddha day are special occasions, generally regarded as only 4 per years I believe.

  4. I need some help trying to get a 3 month Tourist visa to Australia for my 19yo Thai girlfriend. I am only a 21 year old guy living in Melbourne but have a good job for over 2 years and have good salary but not to much savings. I have been to Thailand 6 times sine June 2005 and the next trip will be in just 5 weeks when I hope to be able to get a TV for my thai GF to return with me in mid November.

I have known her for about 1 month and I took her to BKK with her mama to get a passport last week and she has a 18 month old babie but the babie will remain in Thailand while she comes for a 3 month holiday. Is the babie reason enough for her to return to thailand in the eyes of the embassy? She also has a friend who owns a salon in Pattaya so she could make up a work letter as well. Should I have any other problems trying to get her the visa in early November?

    Hi Aussie 21

Looks like you need all the help you can get with this one!

Reading through this thread, I think one point in particular has been overlooked.

If your girl is under 20 years old, then she needs formal permission from her parents to leave the country.

She needs to go to her District Office with her parents and get an official letter giving their consent to travel abroad.

This letter should then be translated to English, and legalised at the Thai Foreign Ministry.

I believe this is an essential part of the visa application package for any Thai under 20 years of age.

Best of luck with your application.

  5. I guess it's the result of another cost cutting measure by this government. With regard to public services Blair's attitude seems to be "Do what's cheap," not "Do what's right."

I was talking to an ECO based on the sub-continent recently, and he explained that, at his office, the ECOs are expected to fully consider 24 applications each per day. This includes reading and assimilating the application form and supporting documentation, conducting checks, and writing any refusal notice if needs be. On the basis of a 7-hour day, and assuming the ECO works flat out for the entire 7 hours, this only gives 17.5 minutes per application, which is clearly not conducive to considered decision-making, and that is why people get refused solely on the ground that insufficient supporting documentation has been submitted, rather than being given an opportunity to adduce it.

    Scouse.

    Hi there,

I'm new here so please excuse me if I stumble :o

It would be interesting to know how many ECO's are based in the British embassy in Bangkok.

    Any ideas anyone?

  6. Hi,

Travelling to UK next month with my Thai fiance. I have her visa sorted already, that was pretty swift, but do I need to get a medical certificate to show on arrival in England too ? I heard that a TB screening is needed maybe, and would rather get it here than let her be led away for testing by some surly immigration official back home !

Any info on this much appreciated,

    Cheers, TW.

Sorry ! Going for 3 week trip only, not staying long-term.

    Hi TW,

For a visit, your fiance does not nedd TB screening - that is required for settlement only.

    :o
