    There have been comments here to the effect that China was able to halt Covid in 77 days.  Sadly, this is far from the truth. There are ongoing outbursts of Covid in many of China's provinces, but the official News Agencies have been instructed to censor all reports of them.  I receive frequent messages on WeChat (using VPN to evade censorship) about new Covid outbreaks.  However, authorities are at least giving these localised outbreaks rapid attention and essential treatment.

    To think that anyone or any one country can eliminate the Covid virus is to misunderstand the nature of viruses.  This position may be reached at some far distant date, as a result of worldwide collaboration, but until then,  the virus is alive and well.

    Are you serious?  It is doesn't matter if you use VPN or not. They have always access to your Wechat account and information.

    Nanjing is in total lockdown even as we speak.

    Not true.

    Health authorities in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, have begun testing the city's 9.3 million residents for COVID-19 after a group of airport workers tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.

    Nanjing authorities said they will test residents in all 11 districts of the city as soon as possible and told people not to leave the metropolis. Anyone wanting to leave the city must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken within 48 hours.

    The Nanjing education bureau has notified after-school tutoring groups to suspend classes. Cities near Nanjing, such as Suzhou, Wuxi and Xuzhou, have ordered all residents who traveled to Nanjing in the past 14 days to immediately report to health authorities for nucleic acid testing.

    Yes, my wife is there now. I was shocked to see 105 cases. She says people wear masks to the market and shops etc, but around the village among themselves, hardly at all. It only takes one infected person, down goes a whole village.

    It’s a very big province of course. I don’t know how widespread these cases might be.

    Positive test results yesterday in Udon Thani.  Positive findings are growing rapidly.

    I only remember that people were allowed to go shopping one day a week.

    I don’t remember any reports of the shops not having food.

    I was allowed to go shopping two days a week. No problems buy a food, beer etc. Now life has been almost normal almost a one year.

    I rely for the most part on the information provided about the situation in Covid 19 because my trust is based on the facts I have experienced and seen.

  5. When an outbreak was found in Bangkok, the entire city should have been isolated and all residents of the city should have been tested.  I live in China, this is how China has got the pandemic under control.  Here, no random testing is done but areas are isolated and a massive number of tests are performed on the area where a disease has been found.  One new positive is enough for this.

  6. Officially, the Chinese can leave the country, but in practice it has been made impossible by quarantine rules.  In addition, it is impossible for Chinese to obtain a passport so that they can travel abroad.  My friend's wife cannot travel to Finland to meet her husband's family in Finland because her passport can not be renewed.  I have worked in China for many years and I can understand why they act this way.  They have no reason to take any risk of getting the disease mess back to country.  Life is normal without big domestic Covid19 restrictions ,because the disease has been almost completely suppressed, economic growth is fast, citizens are happy and satisfied with the current situation and the Beijing Winter Olympics are approaching

    What a joke. Finland is one of the most miserable countries in the world, speaking from experience.

    As ever, they are taking 'security' and 'stability' to represent 'happiness, when they are arguably its opposite. Take politics out of the equation, focus on the simple ability to laugh at life, and the results would be very different - the league table would possibly be reversed.

    It is true the landscape of the Finnish mind is melancholy, but it does not mean life is unhappy. I am a melancholy serious normal Finnish man. Me makes happy most of my children's secured life in Finland. The Finnish system will take care of it. My ex thai wife lives in Finland and does not want to move back to Thailand from any price. She's happier in Finland than in Thailand.

  8. Let the Finns be happy if they feel like this. It should not be out of anyone in this forum. The happiness of Finns is due to everyday life experienced safety and trust in their system. The basic needs of all have been secured; Education, health care, democracy, the freedom of the word, etc. They are also the most pleasant taxpayers in the world because of this. There is no bigger alcohol or drug problem in Finland. The most common Finnish is quiet. Unnecessary laughing and talking is not a virtue that Finns appreciate. If a Finn doesn't smile, laugh or talk to you, does not mean that Finnish doesn't like you.

    According to you the country where

    • free press and free speech is dead;
    • their peoples are watched constantly with cameras and are actually rated as being a good citizen or not that affects their credit rating and ability to travel;
    • people with different beliefs are institutionalised for retraining; and
    • history is constantly rewritten,

    is less like 1984 than Australia where you have to wear a mask to go to the supermarket. OK Connda.

    It is true that China and Russia are totalitarian states. But ... Here we discuss the pandemic and how to deal with it. Asian states have prevented the pandemic from spreading much better than Western democracies. This is a fact that Western countries are reluctant to acknowledge. People still live in a world of imagination where all things are done right only in the West. It can also be seen in this vaccine debate. I am a strong supporter of demogratian, but the pandemic has shown the weaknesses of Western demogratian to prevent the spread of the pandemic. After all your own mistakes, it is pointless to blame China, for example. Countries could have closed borders a year ago and life would be normal as well as free.

  10. I am a Finnish basic engineering. My decisions at work are based on risks or benefits. The risks and rewards are based on data and risk calculations. This should be the same as assessing how foreigners can arrive in Thailand. I work in China. In China, Covid-19 infections are under control. I live in Hangzhou, near Shanghai, where over about half a year in this region (approximately 50 million people) have only been sporadic infections. When I travel to Thailand the risk of bringing a new infection to Thailand would be incredibly small, virtually non-existent. I would also be ready for a home quarantine in my own house. Then I would be with my wife and two children after one year of separation. Now forget me and my family. When decisions are made, they need to be based on data-based risk analysis, not what one feels. Any entry restrictions must be based on a country-by-country risk assessment or in this way Thailand can open the country to tourism. So first low risk countries welcome tourist from Australia, New New Zealand, Chiana,  Taiwan,  South -Korea etc to Thailand. "bad boys can waiting for until pandemia is under control"

    When it comes to China and its already history " they would be generally known "  you understand what it means when someone say " no data "  how you put two and two together is your choice this is something called " critical thinking "  you are funny!  Wake up and smell the coffee when it comes to China!   if you don't get in line for the Sino Vaccine it is free!

    I agree with you Chinese vaccine(s) needs more data to make all clear. Othewise your stories are lies and have nothing to do with reality.

    There is no data because China wouldn't provide it just as Brazil! or just look a the recent W.H.O. request for data!  Put 2x2 together it isn't coming. This isn't data but I have family in China which I keep in contact with since Sept of last year in our conversation there was something wrong I was being told many Chinese were sick that the government was starting to lock down and force their vaccine on their locals and migrant workers people thousand were escaping to avoid throughout China north/south maybe reason for the outbreak just outside of Bangkok.

    Take that timeline since late September have you heard anything about the so call Bubble quality tourist from China?  I've been told that the CCP is basically giving the vaccine free to anyone or country who wants it. I wouldn't surprise me Thailand leaders are getting it for free and claiming they are paying for it.

    Or course nothing I've said do I have any data????

    Don't tell the fairy tales. If the things you tell here are true they would be generally known. It is true that, in the end of the last year, China has been in a small regional infections and individual infections. Travel bubble has been alone Thai's sweet dream. The Chinese has never been interested by the whole thing. Better keep the money inside the country and  infections outside from country.
