  1. To all you Phangan people out there, should we have a seperate pinned thread for Phangan restaurants or would including it in the Samui thread be ok?

The reason I ask is yesterday my husband and I went out for a late lunch at the Peppercorn in Sri Thanu. Excellent food, good portions for reasonable prices. I had the schnitzel with mushroom sauce and sauteed potates. Delicious and only 180 baht (good sized portions too). My husband had the NZ t-bone steak with blue cheese sauce, baked potato and green salad for 490. Very large portions, good steak, cooked to perfection, the sauce was very good.

So, I would like to add the Peppercorn in there, but wondered if it was worth it start a new thread or not.

What do you guys think? Are there enough restaurants to warrant its own thread? Would we get lost in the Samui thread?

    Peppercorn has now a website ... http://www.peppercornphangan.com

  3. I did my driving test in Surat, failed the theory test at the first time, but once my GF translated the thai booklet, with different content than the english book they gave me before, I made it the second time.

Does anybody know if I can drive with this in european countries or do I have to get an international one first?

  4. there is a place called delco's in lamui where he does frquent visits to bangkok and back with his lorry. i used him before it did the job moving house.

hmm off topic but i recently asked about a service like this but got no responses... do you have any contact info for delco's? and did you mean lamai?

How to conatct this 'Delco' Guy? I need to ship motorbikes from BKK to Phangan from time to time .... and with the train it's quite annoying

  5. you pay less you get less.

thats why the other "company" is more expensive...they have more boats, more staff ,a proper pier, safety teams, rescue boat and even 5 star toilets.

so next time you go to the full moon and get stuck with no boats and poor service ask yourself if it was worth saving a 100 baht.

Believe me, nobody wanted to save 100 Baht in this trip. I just came to my usual agent and bought the transfer she offered. She were very sorry about that next day and assured me she will never collaborate with this company in the future.

Was she sorry enough to offer any kind of partial refuund or anything like that? She could always get it back from Sea Breeze if they want her to keep sending them clients in the future.

I doubt that she would be able to get any refund from the company if she would have paid anything back to the customer.

  6. We still look for somebody, who can:

    - Take Photos

    - Use a GPS Device (even if not ... it's pretty easy to learn)

    - Collect Information about resorts and hotels, talk with business owners

    - Translate from english to thai (for a new thai version of our sites)

    - Use Internet / computers (just little knowledge required)

Work in Koh Phangan / Koh Tao only.

  7. Every time I take a trip into Thong Sala to buy a DVD from the guy that also owns "Big Bikes" his shop is closed. I need some new DVD's. Did he get closed down or is he on holiday? I remember one time I was in there he was paying off the police. Maybe his pirated video shop got shut down? Does anyone on Phangan know anything about this?

Why are you missing him ?

Movies you can get better quality by downloading them from the internet, all newer movies he sells most of the time are 'Screen Copies'.

His 'Big Bikes' are a joke ... either +15 years old trashed up jap. imports or even worser ... Platinum Chopper made in China ... :o

  8. You can disagree, but I've been in the business for a long time. Many places do not use online booking. Many places do not take advance bookings. 4 days before the full moon the OP will have a chance to find a room, just not in Hadrin.

OP did not state he wanted to stay in Hadrin, which is the only place that fills up early. January is traditionally less busy than February. Or at least, that has been my experience for the past 18 years.

Maybe too long ... and missed a bit the development ...

High Season is booked at least 60% online ... the vacant rest are mostly quite old crappy resorts nobody want to book in advance anyway ...

... at least this was my experience in the last 5 years I'm doing this business ... before there was no online booking for Phangan anyway ...

For Koh Tao maybe have a look at our new site.

    www.kohtaoisland.net

  9. Maybe consider booking in advance ...

... I disagree with SBK :o ... January is still High Season and only 4 days in front of full moon ... so

"able to step off boat and have some options without having to hike all over the islands" ... is not that easy ...

www.phanganbungalows.com/statistics booking statistics, January is filling up too.

maybe have a look at these bungalows and resorts below 800 Baht per day on our www.phanganbungalows.com/search/for/bungalows/ :D

  10. Mafia is a very flexible term in Thailand.

It can be anything ... from police (they are at least organized) ... to a a bunch of 'YaaBaa' crazy Haad Rin Bar Boys (not so organized) .. to influential locals politicians.

In other counties "Mafia" is used for a sophisticated criminal oranisation, but Thai's love it ... so everyone with a gun can be mafia, let them have their fun ...

About the story with 6 guys shooting someone with a automatic gun ... I believe it ... most Thais can't shoot and that's strange since most people have guns here ... More likely to hit the own foot.

  11. mac.wheeler seems to know what he wants ... and these small Kawas are crap by the way ... not even a manual clutch

But don't buy the bike here ... you are better off buying in Surat Thani / BKK.

Or think about buying second hand in BKK or Phuket, for the price of a new 150cc you could get a 400cc or 600cc in good condition.

Phangan's Streets improved a lot in recent years, most of the island is easy accessible, even with a street bike.

  12. Hi ...

How much is the rent of the place ...

Maybe add it to our free classified section on PhanganIsland.com

    Hello SBK ...

What was wrong with my post :o ... I just read the forum rules and I can't find anything that says I should not post links.

And why would the forum not allow it if it offers the option in the message editor?

If you don't want any links posted I suggest to disable the '' TAG in BBcode
