My wife and I are applying for different visas in KL, as the consulate does not appear to have a website (I may be blind)
Does anyone know what time you need to go down, I just got conflicting advice, one person told me arrive before 11am and another
told me arrive after 11am but before 1pm
So anytime before 11am or is it afterwards
Told you it was a simple question

At the university level in Thailand (at least in our area), students/faculty are banned from using Wiki as an authoritative source.
Well that applies to many Universitys in the US as well, there have many tests done to compare the validity
of Wiki results to Encyclopaedia Britannica and the results have always said they are comparable
Wiki is a starting point and the benefits are it provides additional links on subjects to sources which would be considered
authoritative, reports, journals etc..
Wiki is not the free for all anymore (I miss those days) that anyone can change anything they want y, the "people power" has faded a lot
as they were getting spammed to bits as getting a link to your site from Wiki meant a lot to online marketers
They have around 1500 full time volunteers who are pretty zealous about spotting what changes have been made
so do changes get made which are unreliable - yup! how quickly are they fixed, now pretty quickly. A lot of topics are now locked from editing
In my opinion its a good starting to understand something and will help you find sources/research/journals etc... so will help put you on the right track
Any student that quotes "Encyclopaedia Britannica" should be treated the same way, much as the Discovery channel has well researched work how credible would it be to quote that as a source
Not that it should be regarded an authoritative source but the results have vastly improved. But you have to remember if the founders werent feeling guilty about there online porn days we would have no Wiki
I love the internet it always comes back to porn if even a charitable foundation

I was in singapore a couple of weeks ago and met the nicest embassy/consul staff yet !!
In and out in no time, polite staff and a lovely place to spend a couple of days, i would reccomend Sing over any other local country any day !!
100 % correct, i would never go anywhere else, in Asia anyway.
Thats what seems to be coming up again and again, were only here for a shortish time but as we have been to Singapore before
she is hel_l bent on working a trip/holiday to Laos. I am hel_l bent on not having to do border runs (and yes I do qualify to save any trolling)but she has her non imm B to sort out so makes sense I get a new TR visa while where ever we end up
No has responded about times in Laos, anyone?
Idle curiosity Why does the word with "he" then "ll" get reformatted is it really that offensive?
-
Hello There
I have to a visa run next week, applying for 1 tourist visa for me and 1 Non Imm B for my wife
Assuming I make it to the consulate on time in any of those above countries, will they all usually process in 24hrs?
Thanks in advance
-
Vientiane, Laos would probably be good by land or Penang/Singapore/KL by air.
ok thanks and getting a 2nd tourist visa is generally not a problem if your passport is clean
If I thought I couldnt get a 2nd tourist visa would just make more sense to borderruns
financially, but would rather by air get it sorted
-
Now I have a tourist visa which expires soon, as I have never done a Visa exempt/on arrival
I know as I have no stamps in my passport related to the above I now can do 3 of them
As I am staying for another 4 months I would prefer personally to get a 2nd tourist visa
extend it for one more month and do one visa run
So my question, I have had a tourist visa (multiple re-entry) never done a 30 stay stamp ever
which is the best consulate to go to, I just want one more 60 day stamp
Will most consulates be friendly? and to repeat not one 30 day border run stamp on my passport, just a tourist visa which is expiring
I would just prefer to get a new tourist visa and extend it as I am going away by June and just dont want to do border runs once a month for the next 3 as in my eyes its more cost effective this way
Hope I am making sense, am I best to go to Penang, as I live in Chiang Mai was sort of itching to go to Southern China but if no consulate
probably no point as that would be just a holiday

Superbowl and with all the padding it's definately a girls game.
I have often wondered the outcome if a squad of (unpadded) NFL players and soccer players met on the field.
For an offensive linemen in the NFL, size is about 6'3 (1.905 m) in the high 290s-300 (136 kg) range. Some can weigh as much as 350 lbs (158.75 kg). A fullback would be about 6'2 240. This link shows that the average NFL player is 6'1.5" (1.867 m) and 245 lbs (111 kg). I could not find an average size for a professional soccer player but I doubt that it approaches the size of a NFL pro.
Here is an amusing Football vs. Soccer thread (from another forum) that I found while researching this post. "...the major reason their football is so huge in so many countries has a lot to do with the fact that Soccer is an extremely inexpensive sport to play and far less complicated to organize than the American version of football. While American football is a very high maintenance sport which requires very expensive equipment, soccer requires almost no equipment and all a potential player really needs is a ball. Because of this important, yet rarely mentioned fact, the sport spread all over the world. Over the years this has continued to contribute greatly to the sports colossal popularity, particularly among third world countries. This also explains why Basketball is played all over the world and is so popular in poor urban areas of the US. Congratulations, fellows! - your favorite sport is the past-time of choice among the deprived, the neglected, and the feeble of the world."
Its not about NFL players versus soccer players, who ever wins the superbowl tomorrow I would like them to play
the New Zealand "All Blacks" American Football is not soccer in the same way Cricket is not baseball
Get your pads off practise for a month for a game and bring it on
The jokes about pads are about American Padded Football Games versus non padded Rugby games
But that said I know most Europeans dream of competing with America in different ways like winning the World Series of Baseball which is comprised of american states versus other american states, and doesnt include any competition from other countries
One mans world series is anothers local sport
Get your pads off play rugby

Which teams do you think will make it?
Chelsea and Man United
Superbowl and with all the padding it's definately a girls game.
Chelsea for the cup :bah:
Wow, how original.
Anyway, I'll be at the Outback probably. I've seen signs at the Rose Guest house that they'll be at 6 a.m. w/breakfast for it too. I wonder if 6 a.m is too early for pizza, even with a football game on?
Its not original its the truth , The 6 nations is on now, plenty of action, padding free

Thought I'd let you know that the book "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" By Allen Carr helped me quit smoking, it's been about a month now. It also helped a friend of mine quit. He's been clean for a few months (he's the one who recommended it to me)
Good luck to everyone. The time to quit is NOW.
I have tried patches, hypnotherapy, gums and will power, the book is brilliant the only hard part with the book as even though small it takes
ages to finish (funny that)
3 months now without and at the end of the book was just instantly able to stop (your allowed to smoke while reading the book, why it probably takes awhile to finish)
Its written in a really clever subtle way, if your struggling to quit or dont think you will ever as whats the point? but are reading this post
on a "giving up smoking section" spend a few baht and read it, see what you think then
Im not a fan of self help books, but after 16 years smoking I have stopped instantly after reading this, and been happily in the pub one
week later surrounded by smokers and not even fussed
Some forms of brainwashing are not that bad

surely the highlighted contents should be of the same size?
Confused but curious
Are you taking into account the hidden files, and the swap file?
Apparently not thanks for the answer you have helped refresh my brain

Its a bit of a random question but someone must know
If I go to my C drive on "My Computer" right click properties I can see free space verus used space.
So for arguments sake, lets call it a 10GB drive and says 5GB full, but then I click into the drive and highlight everything
and do properties its says 4GB full
I did this on 2 computers today and the difference between properties of a C drive on "my computer" and going into the drive
and highlighting everything was generally quite different, surely the highlighted contents should be of the same size?
Confused but curious

For those that dont know the new Rambo movie is being filmed in town
I thinks the plot line is about how he escapes from Spiceys
So on the lets gets famous part, they are looking for extras to play Tourists
as the ad goes "Cauceasian, Asians" all ages "adults & children"
They are doing a few days filming between end of Feb - April
I went down today and you just fill in a form and they will contact you if needed
Until Feb 10th Mondays and Fridays only 10am - 5pm, Chiang Mai Grandview Hotel, 24 Chiang Mai Lampang Road
They told me if you get accepted you will get paid anywhere from 1200 - 1500B a day
Not that its about cash just seemed like a fun thing to sign up for
Hopefully I am not repeating another thread but just havent seen it posted previously
Just thought I would mention it, as I cant remember the last Hollywood blockbuster I was in and will happily settle to be tourist no 504

I use TOT for my internet, and its pretty useless as its doesnt work for hours at a time.
In my wifes office they use True internet, and now shes telling me we should change
Is there any point in changing? As I was of the opinion that all providers were pretty much as bad as each other for home use
-
I dont see the point of this post, every neighbouring country around Thailand is to be enjoyed and
has so much to offer, if you have missed that its your loss
Moaning about the rain, would happily have a days down pour any day soon
You cant do a comparison chart as its not about prices, nothing special about Bangkok or phnom peng or otherplaces until you explore
Before you jump on your high horse, excuse me I mean rant, whats the point of this post, my mistake I mean whats the point of your
ignorance.
All very pointless

I have been looking for a getaway...in the BK Post they have hundreds of them...but you have to first fly to BK so that adds another 5,000 Baht or so to the price for two people..plus a long wait at Bangkok as one may be delayed up here.
Does anyone know any Travel Agents up here than can book flights directly from CM that include Hotel Accomodation in such places as Singapore, Hong Kong or any other destinations that are flown to from CM?
Or tell me where I should look for them?
Regards
TP
TP check out some of the airlines webpages. they sell packages that include flight and accomodation as well. For eg: Jetstar, Airasia, Tiger Airways. That might be a place to start.
i have always wondered the same about how bkk post has so many goodies out of bkk but nothing from chiang mai. any more information to what TP is asking would really help.
Its not a package option but I usually book my flights direct and use Asia Rooms as they have a huge range of hotels with big discounts, it will take you a few minutes longer but you will get better accomadation for the same price as you would pay on a package. The site covers all of Asia with plenty of reviews from people who have stayed at the hotels. All budgets are catered for
If you dont fancy trawling around all the different sites to find the best deal on flights, I would reccomend Travel Shoppe (correct spelling )
by Starbucks on Tapae Gate. Covers all airlines and always finds the best deal, but accomadation you really are better if you can do it yourself

Just find me a battery that actually lasts as long as its supposed to and I will be happy

Greetings to all on the Chiangmai forum. I thoroughly enjoy reading all the input on resturuants and sightseeing in the area that so many of you have thoughtfully volunteered. My wife and I are heading up to CM from the gulf area on a tour group and we are seriously thinking of just staying in CM for a couple of weeks or so and I was wondering if anyone out there had knoweledge of a decent longstay hotel in CM. Hot water and sat TV would be nice and as cool as the evenings are this time of year in CM I guess that A/C is really not needed. Thanks in advance for any advice given. Also is there any particular hangout for english speaking expats in CM?
I think it would help if you said what sort of budget you had in mind as there is no shortage of good accomadation which can work for most peoples budgets
Remo, sorry for not giving a price range. We were hoping to find something around 2000 baht per week. I did find a hostel on the internet after I posted yesterday that has private rooms for around 300bt/night, it is apparently across the street from Mikes hambuger shop(wherever that might be?). Once again thanks in advance for anyones help in this matter!
I'd reccomend using this site to get a full list of places, its not an online booking service but a review of guesthouses and hotels in SE Asia.
In the last two months, through this site we found all our accomadation for a 3 week trip in Cambodia/Vietnam and all 7 places were great.
Have also used this site to find reccomendations for places in southern thailand
As the guesthouses arent paying to be in this, so the reviews by the people operating the site are honest and were pretty much exactly how they describe each place
Lots of places anywhere from 140 - 400 a night depending on type of room. which can all be found when you click here

not using IE is one thing..but most computer are running on MS operating system. any alternative
Well you could use Linux, biggest problems online tend to be the person using the machine, clicking on dodgy links in email,
opening attachments from people they dont know etc.. so if more than one person using a particular computer some internet safety
tips will be some of the best prevention for future problems
As John K said using 2 packages is good idea, I run Nortons which is ok'ish and in the "database" section of the Post yesterday they reccomended another programme I think called Cyberdefender which they raved about, and the advice they give tends to be very good

But, shit can happen
Umm, yeah, I 'dropped' my laptop a while back too and it bounced off my wife, the ceiling and the wall.
Well thats what you get when you throw your laptop at your wife in an argument, my "dropped" is just pure stupidity on my side, after deciding to move my desk away from the wall so I could look out the window while working
So Reamo, how is the laptop?
it turns out most of its injuries are only emotional

- When she comes to inspect the house before moving out, stand in front of the mark the whole time and refuse to move.
- Paint the entire room in pink or mint. She will love the colours.
- Scratch the walls in a similar manner repeatedly until you have a pattern. If asked, claim it is the latest interior design trend from New York.
- Smear the walls with pig blood and offal. When she comes to inspect the room, the least of her worries will be the scratch mark.
- Refuse to admit there is a mark there, tell her she has impaired vision. Pay off a few people in the vicinity to stand close and support your story if she tries to go find witnesses.
- Frame the scratch in expensive hardwood and tell her it's a Picasso which you are leaving as a farewell present.
- If she is superstitious, build a shrine over the spot where the scrath is.
All good advice, one of my friends has suggested is to mark all of the wall in black lines, stand in front of it and say
there is a zebra behind me as we are allowed to keep pets
-
Too much trouble, I would move house if I was you, I dont knowhow you cope living in a house with a mark on the wall
My wife has come up with the best idea, we are going to bulldoze the house, build a new one and hey presto there will be no marks on the wall

that KL mightnt be the best choice
Well I went anyway , and got a 2nd tourist visa with no problems
Just letting people know my experience
