  1. You need 2,4D selective, systemic weed killer (google 2,4D weed killer) It is available at most agricultural shops in the centre of Buriram. If you are a long way from there then you could have a look at agricultural shops used by rice growers near you. They tend to sell it in bulk concentrate but its not expensive.

    +1

I have used 2,4D four decades ago when I had a lawn - unfortunately not now.

It works nicely with the thin leaved grass, but will kill any broad leaved variety.

Water the lawn one day after spraying. Repeat spray after a week.

Newer chemicals may have been developed by now that I do not know of, someone who has used them can enlighten you.

  2. Meanwhile, an AirAsia source said the airline was willing to pay if Interpol decides to collect fees - reportedly a few cents each time the database is consulted by a business - as the initiative would certainly help boost security for its passengers and aviation as a whole.

So, expect another "add on" with Air Asia bookings.

Luggage fee, food fee, seat selection fee, stolen passport check fee, vent above your seat fee, toilet usage fee (depends on a number 1 or a number 2), lift the window shade fee, oxygen mask drop fee (must insert 50 baht into bill acceptor when emergency mask drops to start the flow of oxygen).

LOL you forgot the fee to use the steps cheesy.gif

Good idea, good luck man. I rode in India and Nepal too for many months. Great rides and roads in a different universe.

But all I know you cannot pass through Myanmar from India to Thailand.

Is it changed? I hope that!

Yes, you can now. Requires a special permit from the Myanmar government to crossover from Moreh to Tamu.

Wow, that is surprising! from when? It is really goood to know so i can ride my bike from Thailand to India now! thanks for the info.

and, do they give it to everyone? which route are you taking thorough Myanmar?

please give us some more information.

    Thansk a lot. exciting news1

  4. They say you can apply by email - not so according to the desk at Swarnabhumi. I had to get a tax refund on three sectors that I missed and was told to apply at their desk when I transited. Fairly simple process, the lady filled in the details, took a copy of the passport and handed me a copy - told that expect the amount to be credited back to the card in 30 days.

Would know of the status of the refund in two weeks time when it is due to be credited.

  5. Also in the windows of smoking rooms there has been warning stickers for a while now stating the legal limits you can bring in and also notice that all exceeding cigarettes and alcohol has to be dropped to the "drop box".

Not sure what this box is, probably no fine if you donate the extra to customs xmas party or something :D

Saw this last weekend. This wasn't there in August when I passed through. Guess AOT is taking the cigarette shake down scams very seriously :)

  6. This is only speculation - I have never done it.

But...as this is an international to international transfer without checked baggage, would online check in and a printed boarding pass work? Air Asia opens OLCI 48 hours before departure, so it should be possible to get the boarding pass printed in the UK and then go straight to the gate at Suvarnabhumi without clearing Thai immigration....shouldn't it?

Not tried it. It might be possible if you do a web check-in that is possible 48 hours before departure.

    Any one done this before?

  7. WARNING

    Read this first:

    http://www.cambodiaevisa.com/2009/06/07/th...-visa-provider/

    quote:

There are no clues where the money goes if you pay your Visa fee online. It is skeptical now as the system is now managed by a bunch of crooks.

It gets even more murky now. The new website is down most of the time. The service provider changed the header to cover their sin of infringement. The site is a mess now if you compare it with the original site.

The new service provider claimed that it is an upgrade. We DOUBT…

Please do not apply Cambodia e-Visa until the justice prevails.

    unquote

BTW as britmaveric had pointed out on another thread, using the IP address works with Firefox:

    http://202.79.204.118/e-visa/vindex.aspx

Rather than risk giving out CC details to unknown entities, not mentioning the possibility of being issued a fake visa, I would certainly prefer to wait in line for the VoA at the airport

    :)

  8. DUTY-FREE 'THEFT'

King Power concerned over damage to reputation

    By The Nation

    Published on July 22, 2009

..... Chulchit told a press conference yesterday that the case had caused damage to both King Power and Thai investigators.

He insisted King Power's closed-circuit TV clearly showed the couple at the scene and said the footage could be viewed on King Power's website. Regarding their complaints about being cheated out of extra money, he said this happened the world over whenever people sought help from the wrong channels. False reports will tarnish Thailand's image.

Wonder what Chulchit or the AoT is doing to eradicate the "wrong channels" present within the secure area of an international airport ....

  9. Someone commented on the immigration to smile, I do understand them, you can imagine they are dealing with not just more than 10 but maybe more passports at a time. I have no idea how long do they sit there but I think it ain't easy if the work is on a regular basis. The quality and the quick service is enough, definitely makes anyone smile! :) Keep it up Suvarnabhumi people! ")

Came in today. VoA was free. Immigration was fast - couldn't see the smiles though as most of them were behind face masks.

    :D

  10. Plodprasop protests his innocence

Insisting that the tigers were not from Thailand but imported legally from India, Plodprasop said their export should not affect Thailand's natural resources. The tigers belonged to Chon Buri's Sri Racha Tiger Zoo, "so they could be given to anyone", he added.

    ========================================================================

The tigers imported from India??? what a load of crap... the Sriracha Tiger Factory churned them out.

The Chinese wanted the tigers for research?? what a load of crap... the thread on that case posted above points out the kind of place it really is.

Chiang Mai Night Safari show up for support??? that speaks for itself...

No way they could have been brought from India. Export is banned even for zoo to zoo transfers. There are only 333 tigers in captivity ..... how come 100 of them could be sent out?

    http://www.wild-india.com/IndianAnimals/bengal-tiger.html

Most Bengal tigers live in India, and some range through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Their esimated population is approximately 3,250-4,700 tigers, with roughly 333 in captivity, mostly in zoos in India.

Quite likely they are from Thailand or from across the border in Myanmar. The "zoo" should be shut down and all the animals let loose :o.

Hopefully, the tigers would have their owners for lunch, breakfast or dinner .... whatever. :D

  11. look here smarty boys,

i checked in in plenty of time,

please read and comprehend what was said,

and 45 mins should be heaps to get your passport stamped and walk to a gate,

it always has been anywhere else.

but being stuck in what it seems is a daily occurrence,

the airport makes no effort to fix it or help some who are running late.

    it is simply incompetence,

mai pen rai is no excuse,

thai wants to be an international hub, what a joke.

Please answer the question. How long before departure time did you check in?

What did you do between check in and entering the immigration hall?

You say 45 minutes is heaps of time but then go on to admit serepticiously that you were late.

And you say 45 minutes always has been sufficient anywhere else. You've obviously never been through Ninoy Aquino airport. And you've also obviously never been outbound through LHR terminal 3 and there's no passport control there.

Like others on this thread I always make sure I have time ++ when I am flying to allow for the unexpected. Once I'm checked in I proceed immediately through passport control and any other security checks. Once I'm air side I locate the gate so I know exactly which way to go. Once all that is achieved then, and only then, do I relax and do a bit of mooching about or more likely find the nearest bar and sit down for a beer or two.

Going by my experience, the Passport Control personel at Suvarnabhumi are grossly incompetent. Last October the inbound counter had stamped my passport with a date stamp of the previous day. Two weeks later, when exiting, it took two hours at the PP Control to sort out the mess for which they are responsible. I had to produce my inbound ticket stubs to prove the date I had entered the Kingdom. F@@king A$$holes.

Fortunately I was 4hours early at the airport having checked out from the hotel in the afternoon. Can't take anything for granted in the Kingdom.

  12. arriving in bkk 2 weeks time but have 2 hours wait for son is there anywhere i can sit to have a drink and smoke .like the bar outside departures in don muang.

Small smoking room in Domestic, presumably have same in International - no beer and smoking facilities though.

No smoking rooms in International departures. You have to access the same rooms in the domestic departure corridors. If arriving on international, proceed straight ahead to the domestic departure corridor. The rooms are on either side of the walkways. Can always have a can of beer if you want....

  13. I think the problem is that HM the King has chosen the name for the airport, and it has been translated in to English using the transliteration of King Rama II. Unfortunately, those transliteration rules are not 100% accurate - but you cannot criticise a past or present king....

It is indeed a problem. The most confusing transliteration rule that i know is that every word that should be pronounced with a hard 'p' is instead transliterated with a soft 'ph', as in 'phone'. Thoughourly confusing, but you cannot criticise the King, so that is how the correct transliteration remains.....

Suvarnabhumi is a Sanskrit word. It can also be spelled as Swarnabhumi. Suvarna or Swarna means gold and Bhumi is land = meaning the Golden Land. The Thai language has its roots in Sanskrit which the Buddhist monks brought with them from India. Thai phonetics drop the 'i' , 'l' and 'r' in their spoken version along with a host other vowels that I am not aware of.
