This is a four lane divided highway in this area with no sharp turns. It may not have all street lights working but definitly not dark enough to easily see the road. If you go off the road there it is on you, not the lighting or the road. Not meaning to disparage the driver, <deleted> happens to all of us and it can happen in a splitt second at 120kph.

I suppose just firing into the air never occurred to him? Another brain-dead idiot with a gun.
Calling someone an idiot while advocating a bad alternative is a bit amusing. Shooting into the air risks blowing up a star or possibly shooting down the moon. Some people even believe in an obscure idea that what goes up will come down. Me, I prefer people know where a bullet is going before they send it. I believe this guy hit his target, he just didnt verify his target was who he thought it was before shooting.

well, cnn certainly is trash but i find this story ridiculously hypocritical. 1. cnn is not responsible for securing the crime sceen. Unless they snuck in somehow it is not on them but on whoever allowed them in. 2. it is common practice to show gruesome graphic photos in the thai press. Showing a several days old crime scene long after all victims have been removed pales in comparison to some of the picures i have seen published.
just because "netizens" are upset due to this being high profile does not justify making cnn a scapegoat or sacrificial lamb. if someone needs to be crucified let it be whoever gave them access in this case and make it clear to ALL other officials that crime sceen photos is not something the press should be allowed to be taking.
it is newsworthy to report on a murder but it is just gratuitous to include photos of a bullet ridden body sprawled out on the ground.

I am thinking that is way too close to the forecast. Makes me think the numbers have been adjusted to reflect a better picture. on the other hand I would have expected them to come in a little under the forcast if playing games.

It saddens me that so many of the commenters here want to ban other peoples freedom of choice when it has little to no effect on them. Offended by the sight of someone doing something they dont want to do, or god forbid, smelling a fruity sent as you walk past someone is hardly an imposition on your delicate lives.
Perhaps you should reflect on what activities you enjoy that others might find offensive and want banned. personally I hate seeing people walking around the city in beach attire or having to smell stale beer or seeing guys holding hands with some girl outside the bar areas that is clearly a rented date. I accept these as other peoples right to choose. If you are so worried about what other people do, maybe you need a hobby. The world has too many petty tyrants already.

The 51 scholars are right. I also see it that Prayut - as of August 24th - has been the country's leader since 8 years. If the latest constitution is to be respected, Prayut's time as leader is up.
If a constitution can be changed so often according to political whim, why would anyone respect it? BTW: is there something in the current constitution about militay coups? If historical precedent holds, we are about due for the next one.

actually my normal coverage for 6 months in thailand is only $450 and that is with $0 deductible and $1 million coverage (overkill i know). $10,000 shouldnt cost much. Worked with thaipass no problems

I will be happy too, because then i don't have to deal with the smell of regular cigarettes.
She vape with no flavours so that's nice for me as non smoker.
Personally i wish she would stop vaping, but her choice and at least she turned from cigarettes to vaping, which had several advantages.
So yeah i hope Thailand legalize it, so she can vape again in Thailand.
I appreciate your tolerant attitude. I am so tired reading comments from petty tyrants that insist everyone around them must conform to their personal choices.

From what I have read the jury is still out on the saftey and health benefits of vaping. Many reports from around the world are now identifying health problems associated with vaping. Hopefully the Thai Health Dept and Government will look closely at these reports and make an informed decision.
A possible health risk is way better than the proven risk from smoking. Forcing people to use a product known to cause serious harm by banning an alternative product that may possibly have risks in the hope that some will quit is insanity.

my recollection is a " levi's going out of buisness sale" sign at both terminal 21 and at robinsons in chantaburri as recent as a few months ago. I suppose these stores could just be resellers but i thought they were brand owned.

Strange how people are quick to say things that dont effect them should be banned but scream about any restriction on things that would impact them. Authoritarian a-holes are going to be authoritarian a-holes.

No account for the air spaces around the mask? It doesn't matter what your mask filters, air will bypass your mask, around the edges.
I guess i was a little unclear. The smoke test is try blowing smoke through the mask and when i referred to watching someone with glasses and a mask the point was all the air blowing out the top of the mask unfiltered often causes peoples glasses to fog. ???? Long night and jet lag fogging my brain.

Perhaps a little science will help.
virus is .1 -.5 microns
smoke is .4 -.7 microns
respiratory droplets are 5 - 10 microns
So if you can blow smoke through a mask the virus can go through. The mask may still stop droplets carrying virus particles but not the virus unless contained in the droplets.
Try the smoke test and then watch someone wearing a mask and glsses then come to your own conclusions. Not much point in listening to the pronouncement of "experts" anymore unless they can explain how they came to their conclusions. We are in an era of "honorable lies" where it is ok to lie to the masses if it manipulates them in a way that is desired by those who know what is best for us. Stalin and Mao would be very proud of how the world is evolving.

I am not on here to cause an argument, as you are implying. I have been "on here" for long enough to see when someone is!
I will merely "copy and paste" your first 2 sentences, and let others be the judge:-
"I don't come here to discuss the minutia of chicago political issues nor do i believe anyone else here would be interested. For brevity sake I did not go into detail."
And indeed I did not go into detail in my initial comment nor was I intentionally discussing chicago politics. I was only using it as an example to show you that your original comment showed little understanding of the issue because I am well aquainted with my local peculularities. You accused me of being missleading so I expanded on the topic to be very clear. Now you take a snippet from the expanded explaination you instigated, which is referring to why my original comment was breif, and insinuate that I am being disingenuous because that comment does not comply with what I stated referring to my original comment. LOL
I truly do not have any interest in discussing politics as it is generally unproductive. My original comment was merely to point out there is more to the issue than the flippant comments like yours that tend to drown out any rational thought.

"Chicago does not allow guns ...................."
Very misleading, actually - "The state police issue licenses for the concealed carry of handguns to qualified applicants age 21 or older who pass a 16-hour training course."
I don't come here to discuss the minutia of chicago political issues nor do i believe anyone else here would be interested. For brevity sake I did not go into detail. While technically guns are not banned, the laws in chicago make it nearly impossible to go about your normal life armed legally. Laws on where it is illegal to go with a firearm are numerous and complicate, and were designed that way purposely to make it unfeasable.
Who is being "Very missleading" ? What does
"The state police issue licenses for the concealed carry of handguns to qualified applicants age 21 or older who pass a 16-hour training course."
have to do with chicago laws? And as for
5 hours ago, sambum said:771 victims were killed in Chicago in 2021
Technically accurate but meant to be missleading. You would know that if you had any real life knowledge of chicago and were not just searching the internet for factoids to nitpick because you have no real argument. Chicago has political boundaries that are fairly nebulous and seemingly arbitrary. While there is a reason for it, I won't bother explaining how this came to be. Regardless, what is and is not within the political boundaries of chicago is not visibly apparent. You can have building complexes, and even individual buildings (i believe), partially inside and partially outside the chicago boundary. Thus for any statistics with relevancy we use "cook county" locally to mean "chicago" because for the most prt they are indistiguishable.
December 1 "cook county" crossed the 1000 murders mark for 2021, over 900 of which were "gun related" whatever that means. Meanwhile, out here where people can legally go about their lives carrying firearms and many do, crime, and particularly violent crime, is rare.
Despite your attempt to discredit my statement with irrelevancies you made no real argument. Your views are an emotional knee jerk reaction with shallow understanding of a complex issue. Sadly far to common in the world.

How do they so easily distinguish betw. Burmese and Mocambiquan rubies?
Impurities in the gems can indicate origin. For instance a common impurity in burmese ruby causes a strong fluorescence in ultra violet light giving an almost glowing sparkle in sunlight. Thai ruby has little of this but contains an impurity that causes a slightly brownish hue. With fairly common equipment the chemical makeup can be fairly easily analyzed.
4 hours ago, rudi49jr said:Simple: accessibility. It’s probably quite easy to get Burmese rubies, they’re from right across the border, whereas Mocambiquan rubies are probably quite a lot harder to come by.
Although in covid times i am not sure, but chantaburi has always had a large number of African gem dealers with work permits importing rough stones to be cut.

Most of the crime is committed in democrat controled cities where it is illegal to carry a weapon. I am from outside chicago. Chicago does not allow guns yet over 1000 murdered this year and shootings are so common that over 50 in a weekend is a regular occurance. Out here many people carry guns legally and there is almost no crime. Surround me with legally armed citizens anytime, they are not the problem and the people who would be a problem are far less likely to start any problems.

300,000 thaipass applications? i wonder if that is actual people or multiple apps per person. I watched a guy on youtube do a fake app to demonstrate and many reports of people trying multiple times

I knew that alot of people just read headlines, but damn, 90% of the posts so far are from people who obviously didn't read the article. That is how the news is manipulating the masses while still being able to say their articles are factual.
It is no wonder elites have lttle respect for the masses when they can manipulate so many so easily.

2 minutes ago, Guderian said:Sure, but if Indonesia and Russia, two of the most corrupt countries on the planet, can sign it then you'd think Thailand would have felt very much at home with this agreement, lol.
The green activist groups need to start a social media campaign advising people that Thailand has refused to sign the pact and will continue exploiting its endangered forests, and asking them to consider again if they really want to go to such a selfish place for their holidays. Add the 2065 net zero target for a country that has a highet average GDP per head than mighty China, and the place should be looking quite unattractive to environmentally concerned people.
You seem to be saying that other countries signed without intending to hold up their agreement. Then you say Thailand should be punished for not doing the same.
So basically it is the appearance of bowing to activists that is the most important thing, not what they can do or are willing to do.

Another "hair on fire" click-bait climate change article.
Why didn't Thailand sign?
Honestly, there is no telling because the article does not articulate what was in
whatever they think should have been signed.
But it is for the environment. Whatever it says it must be agreed to without question. No need for logic or sense, even Leo DiCaprio was there and approved. 555

India’s rice export halt stirs concerns of 10% surge in Thai rice prices
in Thailand News
Posted
Rice is a commodity. Less rice on the international market means those companies that need rice to make their products will have to compete with each other on price to secure the supply they need. Sellers are always going to see to the highest bidder, thus retailers have to pay more and charge consumers more. It is basic economics. You are not going to see rice farmers turn down higher offers for their rice so why would anyone else in the supply chain? If you were selling something, I doubt you would sell to the lowest bidder just because they cant afford to pay what others are willing to pay.
