  1. I've been here for about two years and always thought the fares were very good value. Cheaper than tuktuks and not bad at all for an air conditioned cab and door to door service. My short trips are only about 40 - 60 baht.

Most of them will use the meter if you ask them to. However if you are trying to catch one from MBK during peak hour you usually get the standard response "150 baht, traffic jam, traffic jam ! "

In that case we have the BTS or strike up a deal :-)

  2. Would anyone know where I can buy some "terminal blocks" or "joiners" - i'm not sure what the electrical term is ??

I need to join two cables together ie. the wires from the 32 Amp breaker and the wires to the 5500W cooktop.

I checked at HomePro but their terminal blocks looked like low current capability.

I have a neon screwdriver now but unfortunately don't have a Fluke DMM !

    Thanks

    Frank

  3. Thanks for the replies. Neon Screwdriver, that's a good idea, i'll check with that. I have a seperate

    green conductor as well.

The installations here are basic, power points that are always live ( no switches ), no earths on

the powerpoints and flimsy looking insulation !!

    Cheers

  4. I like Red Horse, you can get a six pack at Tesco for 97baht.

Chang, like others have mentioned, gives me bad hangovers.

What ever happened to Carlsberg in Thailand ? I was in Vietnam back in January and

was happy you could get locally brewed Carlsberg there.

  5. every 4-5 weeks my friend do a transfer from australian bank to my account in thailand , around 2000 AU dollars .

send as dollar and will be change in thailand !

the last one was : rates 28.31 commission 250 baht and cost over there was 28 AU dollars

changing baht in australia ? you getting a very low echange rates

i am with bangkok bank and national in australia !

never see so much high cost as mention :

the thai bank charges 600 baht to your account plus 1.5%commision

How did your friend get such a good rate ?, I just checked on the National Australia Bank site and I got this...

    1 AUD = 26.909 Thai Bahts

    2000 AUD = 53,818.00 Thai Bahts

    Indicative Rate as at: 22-DEC-2006

I would like to know since I was doing transfers with St. George Bank and they were around 27.3, however now they

have stopped transfers to Thai Bank's.

    Regards

  6. I would like to extend my 60 day tourist visa by 30 days.

When do I need to apply for it - on the last day or the day before ?

Also, is the immigration office in Bangkok open on Saturdays and Sundays ?

Are there any restrictions on the hours for applications and picking up passports ?

How long does it take to process ?

I called the office however the silly automated phone system got stuck in a loop !

    Thanks

    Frank

  7. I was thinking of going to KL to pick up a double entry tourist visa for Thailand. Does anyone know what the cost of the visa is, and how long does it take the Thai Embassy to process the visa ?

Also, is a visa required, going into KL or do they have a "visa on arrival" like Thailand ?

    Thanks

You won't get a double entry tourist visa now. They've stopped issuing them in Malaysia and other Asian Consulates.

You'll get a single entry visa which used to cost (last week) 1000 Baht, or 100 RM.

I prefer to travel to Penang to get mine. I hand my passport to an agent there and he processes it for me. All I do is sign the form, and hand him my passport with some photos. He brings it back the following day with a visa.

    Wow, lot's of changes recently.

Is the single entry a 60 or 90 day visa ?

    Cheers

  8. Does anybody have a list of these 41 countries ?

Is this a case of regulations "will" be changed or have they already taken effect ?

If so what date do they take effect from ?

    Regards

Visa rules will be tightened to stop abuse

Maximum stay of 90 days for foreigners

Visa-on-arrival (VOA) regulations will be tightened for nationals of 41 countries to prevent abuse of the privilege and curb the rising number of illegal entries, according to the Immigration Police Bureau (IPB). Foreign nationals from those countries, including the US, China and India, will be able to stay longer but with fewer chances of renewing the VOA.
