  1. Hello. I have a situation that I am sure many others are also dealing with. I have lived in Thailand now for about 5 years and went home in Sept to return with a 60 day tourist visa I had received from the Thai Embassy in NY. My visa expired on the 29th of November and a week before I purchased a oneway ticket to Cambodia to apply for another visa at the embassy in PP.

I have a new passport and know the preparations to apply for an additional visa in PP so that is not my concern. My worries are now that my visa has expired, all flights from Airasia have been canceled due to the protests and I am unwilling to go to the immigration office and apply for the extension of 30 days and pay 1900 baht. I had planned this early trip to PP simply for the purpose that I wouldnt need to do it around Christmas and New Years later this month.

What do you suggest I do. All lines to Airasia are busy and there really isnt anyone to answer my questions. I am prepared to complete a fake airline intinerary for Continental when the airport open so I can simply say that my trip to Cambodia was to be my last before returning home on Dragon Air to Hong Kong.

How can they charge me an overstay fee if my flight has been canceled and why would I pay the extension fee if I am only going to be here until the airports open up again and I can get a flight out to PP, even though I intend to come back in a week or so with another tourist visa but will be coming by bus to Poi Pet through Siem Riep.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just dont see how they can charge me any overstay fee if I had a ticket to leave the Kingdom a day after my visa expired since you are allowed 1 day overstay. It is now Dec 2 and I dont see anything happening until the King speaks Thursday and that still doesnt assure me a flight out to Cambodia Friday or that weekend.

Thanks and look forward to your repsonses. I am unwilling to pay the 1900 baht extension when have an open ticket and would have to leave near the 28th or so later this month which would make me miss the holidays.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff

  2. So let me get this straigh... I have tried to follow these new rules once they were made public a few weeks ago but and still baffled.

I am leaving Thailand in Mid Nov and plan on getting a tourist visa from the Thai embassy in NY for my return in Jan. Once that has been completed, I assume I will have a 90 day visa to stay in the Kingdom. Before those 90 days expire, I am allowed to make 2 or 3 visa runs to Cambodia, Laos or wherever for an additional 60 days????

Once those 2 or 3 visa runs have been used, I must then leave the country and apply for a new tourist visa at an embassy outside the Kingdom, such as Cambodia? Then the whole cycle can begina again?

I am currently going to school her learning the language and am really contemplating not coming back if I can only stay for a total of 6 months then go home for 3. Not really following what the whole deal is.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Jeff
