  1. a monthly pension check does not arrive from the "nanny state" it comes from your previous employer. It is a retention tool to keep employees working at the same company for as many years as possible so the company does not suffer from a workforce turnover. Likewise, Social Security checks, at least for Americans, is the money the worker and his employer paid into the system over the worker's career. Now that lifespans have increased, workers receive more than they pay in but when the system started it was the opposite, shorter lifespans meant retirees died younger so the govt made a killing (yes, pun intended)
  2. the COE process was cumbersome and time consuming -.... and thats why they replaced it, unfortunately they replaced it with an even more idiotic system, what the hell most of the <deleted> they require to be inputted can be checked by immigration officers upon arrival -its not as if they are ovewhelmed with arrivals, i am not aware of any other country in the world that makes tourists jump through all these hoops-either open to tourists or remain shut
  3. Based on the online comments I read about Thai Pass, the 65k tourists could be 65 tourists trying 1000 times to access that site from hell
  4. Yes, it is ridiculous to enforce the absurd ban BUT what are the police to do if ordered to raid the bar?
  5. 35 pages of posts detailing problems, and the complicated steps required to overcome some of those problems, suggest that the title, Thailand Pass Up and Running, is not very accurate
  6. poster wants to know if an app/cell phone is mandatory and robblok writes back with his theory on life-fascinating
  7. sorry Dogfish, didnt see your post, didnt mean to piggyback off yours
  8. it will take longer than that if they continue to have different requirements for international tourists than for domestic tourists and keep their cumbersome application process meaning the COE and Thailand Pass in place
  9. on November 1 Thailand will reopen and on November 2nd and 3rd and.... different rules will be announced
  10. i wonder if their "solution" will be more expensive, and excessive testing, of international tourists
  11. if testing overseas tourists 3X is such a good idea then why not do the same for Thai tourists?
  12. the Thai bureucrats still dont get it.....replacing the COE with a Thai Pass to "make filling out the T8 form easier" is not offset by ripoff priced overtesting, having the visitor hope he doesnt get quarantined because someone near him on the flight is positive (possibly false positive) closed bars, insurance mandates, having their holiday disrupted by changing the rules....remember when they replaced the HKT to BKK flights with a 10 hour bus trip? and PARTICULARLY since the foregn tourist knows he has different mandates imposed on him then Thai tourists do
  13. i keep my funds in a USA bank that waives all atm fees for both foreign and domestic (usa) withdrawls, in USA there is both Schwab Investments and First Republic bank, they reimburse the disbursing bank fees and waive their own fees also, wells fargo bank will waive their fees but not the disbursing bank charges, various banks in other countries offer fee reimbursement for atm fees, both the UK and Australia have banks that refund also, it has worked for me for years with no problem
  14. the only people surprised by this story work for the Thai government
  15. so Thailand is sticking with the, "lets milk the foreign atm scam" still, foreigners have to test within 72 hrs of departure and again at arrival in Thailad but domestic tourists dont, thats not a health issue thats a pure money making issue
  16. the article states that testing can be done at the hotel and not the airport, looks like someone with common sense finally was involved in the planning
  17. .malaysia is talking about reopening soon , unclear yet if they will have as many ,"lets ripoff the tourists" requirements as Thailand but hard to believe they can be as bad
  18. if someone possess a negative PCR test results why the hell do they need a "fit to fly" cert? apparently their new and unimproved, "clear plan" is as nonsensical as before
  19. you are correct-again, by LOS I meant los angeles, calif and to clear up my poorly written posts, visa on arrival is not available for usc. for usc tourists staying less than 30 days no visa required as they are considered, "visa exempt"
  20. "There are not now and have never been visa on arrival for USA passport holders." correct, but as a USC, and if you qualify depending on the length of stay and reason for visit, you do not get a visa on arrival but are "visa exempt" "As one of the Countries listed for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival, U.S. Passport Holders are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days** on each visit ...Sep 28, 2021 details at https://thaiembdc.org/visas/#
