  1. if your girlfriend if not on the eligible ETA list you will need to send in a paper application to the australian commission wherever you are. She needs to supply proof of savings and funds, letters from employer showing she will be returning to work, show any details of support that may be provided whilst in australia eg accommodation provided ( in your case it's your parents who aren't citizens, on the form they ask if they are oz residents ) or if someone is paying for her ( they need to show their proof of funds then)

Anyway, the short of it is, you need the supporting documents and to fill in the application which is on government website under the tourist visa section. It may take some weeks to process.

    Good luck.

  2. Just some info, if you are not from an ETA eligible country (countries that are allowed to apply online for a tourist visa) it can take some time for tourist visa approval so make sure to look on the aussie government immigration site for your country and requirements.

My south african friend had to apply direct to the embassy which also required bank letters, accommodation proof, employer letters etc.

  3. I'm looking for somewhere to stay for my brother and his girlfriend on Phi Phi. They are looking for somewhere quiet on the beach with air and hot water. Not top end but somewhere decent.

Any suggestions anyone? Never been there myself so don't have a clue!

    Hi,

Having lived there on off for four years I would suggest Longbeach for a great place to stay. It's only a short long tail boat ride out of the main village, many resorts along there to choose from with low prices and great views. No hustle and bustle of the village life, a fantastic reef (Hin Pae) right off the beach for diving and snorkelling, a fantastic stretch of beach to relax on, Longbeach Dive Centre for diving and great places to eat. Try Paradise resort, PP Hill or PP the beach resort. All nice! Good luck.

  4. bus 556 from the airport to Khaosan rd is only 35 baht by the expressway, the taxi will be 400 baht (300 fare, 50 airport taxi tax, 50 tall - if you are in rush).

(from don muang to khaosan was always below 200 baht - you did not have to pay tall if there was not heavy congestion)

You must have known the good cabbies then, I've never seen the Dm to Khao san for under 200 baht. Either way if you can't handle the bus, 300-400 baht isn't steep considering what you would pay for a taxi that same distance in most western countries.

  5. I also get frustrated when someone tells a story asking for advice and then totally ignores what is given him !

That's exactly why people make these stories up and post them on Forums. :o

Magio6, your little britain face. Every time I see it I'm laughing.

The guy wanting advice, doesn't take it because ' he knows toooooooo much!!'

    :D

  6. scubaaussie have you heard of kangaroo feathers? The ones from their pouch. :o

We would sell them to yank tourists when I was a kid. They’re very rare and hard to collect you know. :D

hmm yes, just like the rare roo scales, you know the ones the baby roos shed shortly after hatching from the egg. If you can find a full specimen it fetchs in excess of 4000USD.

Hard to find, you need to go deep into roo territory armed only with a large magnifying glass and lot's of patience....

  7. I'm still laughing about the person who posted the comment about smuggling roo eggs in your bra.

    HUH??????

What do the schools teach people these days? Did someone say 'roo egg omelette on another posting?? Sorry but that's too funny, are you guys from the same family, please tell me your not aussie. Still laughing...

    :o

    Kangaroo Scrotum Bottle Opener

An Australian family favourite - the perfect bar accessory for anyone who likes to impress their mates with their toys.

This, is a genuine kangaroo scrotum folks, if you click on the picture to enlarge it you'll notice an abundance of hair... yes, the kangaroo has hairy balls too!

    Only $25

    :o

Oh my god that is so funny. Reminds me of the time my mum bought my ex boyfriend a genuine kangaroo scrotum money pouch for christmas as a joke. Now really, that isn't a joke, she did it. Being canadian, he didn't get it.

    Kangaroo Paw Bottle Opener

I had one of these 40 years ago.

If you are old enough to remember Skippy, 2 of these were used when Skippy was supposed to pick something up. The camera shot was always tight, if you recall.

You never saw a long shot of Skippy picking something up. Sorry to kill the illusion. :D:D

    Again, only $25 + P&P

  9. As a novelty food for the ex-pat market - yes, sure, but would one be able to sustain it as a business venture, and get the Thai's to climb on board as well.

They dont cost much to breed do they - I mean this is an animal which will live off the bush won't it?

Would it be as simple as a large fenced off area, which one can just drive around in on slaughter day?

I simply dont know, but if the costs are low, why not - one wouldnt be risking too much would they?

    Tim

As a novelty food item for the expat market, that was a joke.

Maybe google some info about the roo....

'would it be as simple as a large fenced off area??? Hey?? These are kangaroos mate, they live in the bush. Aussies define bush as something about the size of London city...lol

Hope the backyard is about that big. Then maybe. :o

  10. lol, one must ask what you were doing to warrant a bite from a quokka, were you trying to put it in a cray pot?

It probably had good reason to be pissed off. It was in a cage at someones house. He had stolen it from Rotto. I was silly enough to try and pat it. :o

that's funny. I won't ask how he managed to smuggle it off rotto then.

In answer to Maize farmer, I am sure there would be a market for it if someone was serious, or silly enough to want to try. I mean look at how many drunken farang eat scorpian and fried bugs from the little stall on Khao San Road at 2am. Imagine a bit of fried roo leg, would go down a treat after a few singahs and buckets. You could make a tasty profit. mmmmmmm :D

  11. I've lived down south of thailand and I have seen alot of affection between thai people and certainly families I know there, especially between older relations and the children. I know it can also be the thai way not to show affection but you do see it nonetheless.

  12. Are these post-9005-1162888322_thumb.jpg quokkas better deep fried or grilled? :D

They make great crayfish bait... so I'm told... :o

Could you ask your "source" how they run the fish hook through them? Through the eyes?

*laugingly picked out the cutest, gosh-darn-it-sweetest-looking, most huggable-looking, most innocent-looking quokka pic I could have found*

Apparently they sit quietly at the bottom of a cray pot... on the bottom of the sea floor... irresistable to crayfish.

    :D

    No hooks required.

Only joshin... it's a stock standard Western Australian cray fisherman's joke... :D

oh ok.. thanks for the insider truth. Guess we're back to just frying small pieces of their flesh..

No use them as cray bait. They have been tenderised by the school leavers playing quokka soccer about this time of year, and the cray season is about to open. You will get more eating off the crays than the quokka. The good meat comes from the larger roos (tastes better too :D ), not the things the Dutch confused for rats a couple of centuries ago.

One of those little bastards bit me on the finger once! Bloody hurt! Cray bait is too good for them! :D

lol, one must ask what you were doing to warrant a bite from a quokka, were you trying to put it in a cray pot?

  13. Yes I have to disagree with farangsay, Hair of the dog is definitely the way to go.

The way we aussies approach it is to keep drinking all through the next day, well at least to the sun goes down, that way if you pass out and go to bed you sleep through your hangover.

Not so bad the next morning if you have a fry up of some description either.

  14. Yes I have to agree with farangsay, Hair of the dog ( or cure as they call it in Ireland.) is definitely the way to go.

  15. Well many of you jest, but no reason at all why not to have one, you can own a monkey, why not a roo here.

Perfectly legitimate enquiry and I have a very large graden and would love to see a roo laying in the sun, eating the grass and playing with the kids.

Apart from the protected species thingy.

Large Garden? How large, paddock large? lol. How big is your garden fence? :o

  16. who would have thought that purchasing just two roos could have such marketing potential. It's endless. I mean, tuk tuk roo safaris, qokka soccor matches, maybe fried quokka bits and vb bbq at the zoo, and maybe we could consider a muay thai v boxing kangaroo match? Those roos would sure give the muay thai a run for their money in the leg kicking department. That sounds like an interesting zoo.

I think that this means that they will be showing the ashes on pay per view channel 72 but they have not fixed the price yet.

you'll find it on a tv somewhere. If not just wait to hear it from the aussie cheers in the streets when we win them back. :o

  18. I want, or rather my wife wants, to import a kangaroo or two. Has anyone any experience in doing this, or can offer any advice?

We own nearly 5,000 rai of land in various parts of the country and she is thinking of setting up a zoo on one of the estates.

    :D

Is this a pucking fiss take? Two kangaroos = One zoo. Don't worry about providing a big parking lot or lots of refreshment stalls you won't be needing them.

:o maybe with 2 kangaroos on all that land it can be a sort of african/thai/aussie safari where you can drive around for hours ( maybe in a modified camoflaged 4wd tuk tuk) hoping for a glimpse of the elusive roo. I think the annual qokka soccor match would be hit, maybe chuck in a few tassie devils for good measure?

  19. Very difficult from Australia. Protected species in-spite of the almost vermin status in some parts of the country.

You will need zoo status and be able to fill out lots of paperwork to keep the bureaucrats happy. Best to come to an agreement with an existing zoo / wildlife park.

If you just want a bunch of wild Aussies, put up a sign "Free VB" (or if you prefer the Northern sub-species change VB for XXXX), with some arrows pointing towards a holding yard (bar) and keep the taps full. :o

I haven't stopped laughing, I know millions of aussies who'll volunteer for that. Not as strange as kangaroos in Thailand...
