I will take the Burmese generals angle: If the monks were asking only for lower fuel prices, would the generals have cracked down on the protests so hard?
I doubt it, therefore my conclusion is that the monks were asking for more, making demands that the generals could not accept, nor even negociate (read: regime change).

The flags could be of Cambodia, but I don't recognize the place.

I struggle to use my 300 Bahts per 30 days, that's gonna help. Thanks for the tip!

Ha LaoPo, you put me in a cold sweat too! Maybe we need a photo finish...
I looked where the word Hanoi first appeared, and that was as a guess in Zpete's post, at 8:17:30. Hence my suggestion to give the turn to Zpete.
Must be Vietnam, only other place would be in Hanoi. But at the same time, I'm the first to acknowledge that you were reaching the same conclusion with your post at 8:20:11, and even went the extra mile to include the facts and picture in support.
HOWEVER.....It's Hanoi after all and it's called:
St. Joseph Cathedral:
LaoPo
So, who should take the turn?
-
Wow, you've been up early gentlemen!
It is Hanoi indeed, and I'm told the cathedral has been cleaned this year (my picture is from 2006).
Looks like it's Zpete's turn, with his post just 3 minutes before LaoPo's.

Not Manilla, but we're in the right part of the world.

Is it Cairo, Egypt?
-
1. Just didn't think about it! I'll try that next time
2. And of course you're spot on with the Capitole in Toulouse.
Your go,

Thanks LaoPo. I've seen a lot of pictures of Spanish churches today! (see this, page 338: http://www.mcu.es/archivos/docs/ArchivosIglesia.pdf)
Anyone knows this city:

Heng, may I ask how importing/exporting living things from Thailand works, regulation-wise? Do you have to get some sort of "certificate of good health" for each shipment, or is there a systematic check by the customs of the receiving country?
kyubi, sorry for the off-topic. Some big Thai companies / brand names you may want to look into:
- Double A paper (Advance Agro Co).
- Poultry products / pork products / animal feed / animal medicines: CP, Betagro, etc...
- PTT (petrol).
- AIS, DTAC, True... (IT).
- Banking: SCB, Krungsri Ayudhaya, Kasikorn...
- Furniture manufacturers. Some big brands (La-Z-Boy) are made in Thailand, but I don't know the names of the local manufacturers.

Will toothpaste and lightbulbs really have such a big effect on the stockmarket?

Before vote buying, the government may want to address the candidate buying, i.e. the millions some political parties are spending right now to sign up MP candidates with them.
If the candidates were receiving less money in the first place, they would have less to spend on vote buying. And they would have to compete with ideas and policies rather than who has the biggest wallet.

La hermosa ciudad de Girona.

I'm with KhaoNiaw, "Mai sai prik" (don't put chilli), is the way to go.
-
Absolutely correct, LaoPo.
The tower on the hill is Namsan tower, right in the center of the city. The river is the Han river.
Your turn,
Edit following yours: Too many things on display to be Pyongyang...
-
-
Not Zhengzhou...
The sea is less than 100km away.
-
I'll throw in a few more clues: On the left of the picture, the tower on top of a hill is a landmark of the city.
The place is surrounded with hills and mountains, but it's also not far from the sea.
-
The hills look like Spain or Italy in the summer - there are even cicadas. But it's not European. Look further East (far East).

Doctors are the 3rd leading cause of death in America killing at least 250,000 people per year.
Yes, just get rid of the doctors and all illnesses will magically disappear. Things like plague, diphteria, lockjaw, poliomyelitis...

Yes, same tree.

Is It Safer To Drive A Car High On Wheels ?
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
Safer for you, but not for the people in the other car involved in the crash... Maybe fine if it is "them" crashing into "you", but what if "you" happen to crash into someone else?
Elevated cars, including pick-ups and SUVs also cause more serious injuries than conventional sedans in case of collisions with pedestrians, because they hit at chest level instead of at leg level.
