  1. The company I am presently employed with in Canada/USA would like to open up a center here in Thailand. It will employ up to 20 local residents where ever in Thailand it is situated.

What my employer would like to know is this. Is there a business start up grant available to Farang to start businesses that will ultimately employ Thai Nationals? If so, were can I find information about this?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  2. Help. I am in need of some information quickly.

My fiance (now wife through traditional Thai ceremonial wedding) and I would like to get registered and need to know what to bring to the amphur.

We were wed through traditional Thai ceremonial wedding on Aug 14th then I had to leave Thailand for awhile. On Boxing day I found out she went into the hospital the previous day for emergency surgery, later to be diagnosed with cancer. I immediately made plans to return immediately to take care of her. Now I am here, I wish to get registered and then get my Marriage Visa before my visa exempt stamp runs out.

I went to the immigration in Chiang Mai and spoke with them, explaining my situation as stated above. Her income and mine combined are over 40,000 baht per month. I have been sending enough money to her for the past year to show that in her bank account so there seems to be no problem there. The officer at immigration just said that "You need the marriage registration". I asked a number of times if that is ALL I needed along with the banking information I showed him. He said YES.

I feel that there is much more for me to bring.

Also, what are the items that need to be translated and notarized? And who are they for?

I hope someone can give me a quick complete answer without me having to search for hours and find bits and pieces of information here and there. Doing it that way makes me feel like I am missing something and will end up wasting my time.

If you can help me, a million thanks in advance.

  3. Happy New Year to all!

I have a Business Admin degree (from a non accreditted university it seems) as well as certification in TESOL. I have been teaching for the past 2 years in Thailand and China (just finished a one year stint in Guangzhou) and am now back in Thailand.

My question is: Now that I have 2 years of experience accompanied with the TESOL certification, will/would that make getting my work permit a little easier?

    Thanks in advance

  4. All the above information is GREAT!!

What I would like to know is this:

I have a website that is my main source of income in Thailand, exporting Thai products legally. I would like to know if this applies as income in Thailand. Also, if so, what would I have to produce to obtain and non immigrant O visa to stay with my wife in Thailand?

    Thank you

  5. Thank you for the helpful information. Hope that you are able to help with a couple more questions.

    1. Am I able to get a 3 month Thai visa here in China?

Unless you are a resident of China, in most cases the answer is no At present I DO have a resident permit for foreigner, is this what you mean?? Or are you referring to a Chinese national status?

If not, would I be able to go to someplace like Singapore to get it?

Yes or you can change it to a "O" visa inside Thailand with a income of 40K per month or 400K in the Thai bank. Please note: This is for change from a 30 day tourist visa exemption stamp or tourist visa, then money in the bank is allowed to meet the criteria.

With the extension of stay permit, only a income of 40K per month is allowed.

In reference with the part in red, are you referring to an actual VISA attached in my passport? A VOA does not qualify me for the money in the bank criteria, right?

    Thank you

  6. Hello:

I have been trying to find some information about visa's ( marriage visa in particular ) but cannot find anything that says anything different than what it said before the coupe.

I am a Canadian national presently working in China but planning on returning to Thailand in Feb 2007. I have married a Thai national lady ( the traditional ceremony only at present - we are planning on registering shortly after my arrival back in Thailand ). We would like to continue living our lives in Thailand but with all the turmoil with the visa laws, I am unsure whether I am able to get a one year marriage visa.

What I would like to know is this,

    1. Am I able to get a 3 month Thai visa here in China? If not, would I be able to go to someplace like Singapore to get it?

    2. After we register our marriage, what do I have to do to get the one year marriage visa?

I have read somewhere that I would have to return to my home country to get it. Am I able to go to Singapore to get it??? Or is there a less expensive place to go to get it? I really don't want to have to go through the expense, time and trouble of going back to Canada just to get the visa and return to Thailand a couple of days later.

I hope that someone can fill me in.

    Thank you in advance.

As you are not married at the moment you would only get a 60 day tourist visa. After you are maried you can get a 90 day Non Immigrant O visa, locally that can be extended for 1 year if you have 40,000 Baht monthly income between the 2 of you.

From what I was reading, I was under the impression that I personally had to have an income of 40,000 baht monthly. Are you 100% sure about the "between the 2 of you"?

If that is the case, does the 400,000 baht in the bank part of what I have read have to be in MY bank account? Or is that also between the 2 of us?

  8. I am married to a Thai National but am presently working (finishing a contract) in China. I am finished the contract in February 2007 and was planning on returning to Thailand to live with my wife. What type of visa am I to apply for and what are the particulars about it. How long is the visa for, can it be extended, how much is the visa, etc...

I am originally from Canada and would like nothing better than to live permanently with my wife in Thailand. What steps do I have to

    take?

    Thank you

before you come back to thailand, get a non immigrant o visa by showing your marriage certificate

to the nearest thai embassy /consul,even if you only get a tourist visa you can still upgrade to a non immigrant visa within thailand as long has you have 21 days left on your tourist visa.

go with the wife to thai immigration and apply for a one year marriage visa ,you must have a letter from your bank stateing you have over 400,ooo baht in your account plus photo copies of your passport, wifes id card, tabien bann. etc.

when you get your one year visa,if you want to go out of the country you must get a re-entry visa that covers you while you are out the country

    easy

Thanks for the quick response. Just a couple of other things.

First, I am not supporting my wife and there is no other reference that I have been able to find about a O Visa or any other that is just for people who want to live in Thailand with their Thai spouse but not supporting financially.

Second, is there any other way around the

    400,000 baht in your account
    thing?

    Thanks for the help

  10. I am new to this forum and thought that this might be the best way to find out the truth in something that I recently heard.

I recently married a Thai national and had to return to China to complete a one year contract there. In one of my recent chats with my wife, she mentioned that there has been a dramatic change in the visa regulations. Something to the affect of : If you are in Thailand with a non immigrant visa, when the visa is completed you MUST return to your country for a length of time, before you are permitted access to Thailand again.

Has anyone heard about this new development? Apparently it was just put in force over the past 2 weeks.

Any information about this or Marriage visas would be greatly appreciated.

I am planning on residing in Thailand permanently.

    Thanks you.
