Thanks for you answers I meant the PCR test .  just for clarification , did you get your PCR test done at or near Heathrow  -   if you have been through this process

    regards

    Richard

In case it helps. I used the at home PCR test kit from Boots. Results next day and no problem with Airline or Thai immigration showing the certificate they'd emailed me.

but much better health care , and if unable to afford health care in Thailand, what choice ?

Seen a few people going back home, USA, UK due to high cost of health care here

But yes, not my idea either, but with all the extra benefits and NHS, maybe worth it for some

True, the NHS with free health care is the main benefit. However NHS has taken a beating due to Covid, for example I know people on the NHS emergency dental waiting list who've waited almost a year. Yes their operations were classed as an emergency but no staff are available. However for the most part Health Care is infinitely better than Thailand and free.

Someone mentioned free furniture as one of the potential benefits available in the UK. I can confirm my local Council did away with that shortly after the 2007 financial crash. Also I wouldn't be too sure about foodbanks, here at least you need a referral from the Job Centre. Not going to happen during a potential future lockdown or if the "Job Coach" or whatever they're calling themselves now doesn't like your story.

Still if people can't live comfortably in Thailand with silly medical insurance costs I totally get why they'd think of going home.

I wonder what would happen, if like me and a few friends, who have no property in the UK, were to return to live

Obviously, with no home, then would need all the basic things, like flat, house, furniture, , plus all the additional benefits that would be available

Couple of friends have said that if it gets worse here, or they have pension problems, they would fly back, and then go sit in the Benfits office until they got everything they are entitled to

Their view is what can they do to them, , if immigrants can get these benefits, why not pensioners

I suppose it depends which Council you try that with. The thought of spending 6 mouths in Sheltered accommodation with homeless, junkies and immigrants only to be given a council flat in the roughest part of town doesn't sound like a great retirement plan.

  4. I imagine DWP check if you're in the UK the same as if you're buying eCigs online, they check credit file to verify you are over 18. The same with taking out insurance or opening saving accounts they'll do an identity check with one of the credit agencies.

As long as you have a UK address (maybe use friends or families) for any kind of credit account, even a current account you should be ok. It maybe helps if you're registered to vote at that address. Of Course that would be a problem if the person living there had any benefits (ie single person Council Tax discount etc.). If you can't think of a suitable friends address in UK maybe someone you know in the EU would let you say your living at their address.

  5. The email address given during my application was different from the one on the embassy's website. Have you tried both?

When I had to contact London Embassy they only answered emails I sent using the address on website.

I think I'd be panic emailing and calling every contact detail I could find at this point. I wish you the best of luck.

(With regards to my application, apparently they sent an email asking for a document but I never received the email, very quick to sort out once I knew they wanted something)

  6. I'd be concerned about the mothers health. It's a long flight and then very hot once here. She may not be fit enough to acclimatise.

Worth double checking covid insurance and funeral costs. Certainly cheaper than back home I'd think.

Can you be sure she wouldn't need hospital care whilst in Thailand. Full insurance would be very expensive.

They do not have any verifiable online security.  And as anybody who has gone to just about any immigration office probably has seen, (I have only been to the one in Jomtien), every day they were collecting literally thousands of pieces of paper copies of extension stays, other types of applications, reports, and other stuff.  Many people have posted getting back printed things from immigration where the back side of the paper had stuff from other people!

I wonder if they'd accept a saving account statement. Less damage could be done with that.

  8. I didn't even think about it, I just uploaded bank statement. Using a PDF editor to change Account Number may be a sensible pre-caution. I suppose there's a very slim chance of identity theft or someone setting up Direct Debit in your name.

Of course passport etc. is just as concerning. Just have to hope they are careful and have good online security.

I applied for our COE three weeks ago, which was over four weeks before our flights, and it still shows "under consideration". A few days after I applied, the status indicated I needed to upload more documentation such as the airlines reservation proof and two other documents which I had already uploaded at the time of application. I uploaded all of the requested documents but ever since it has just shown "under consideration".

Sounds like something has gone wrong there.

When I did my visa at least one email from Embassy didn't arrive in my inbox, they quickly sorted it when I emailed asking why the application was taking so long.

    Try contacting Thai Embassy.

I have tried since two days several times, with no changes. I'm trying to get help from the Thai Consulate in Frankfurt today. However, it is difficult to reach someone by phone.

I personally found the Embassy quite responsive to the email address listed on their website (In my case the UK).

In saying that thaievisa.go.th has been taken offline so they could be very busy, with people trying to contact them.

In the mean time have you tried using a different web browser?

My hotel keeps telling me that they have a different process for people arriving after the 15th. When are you arriving? I tried calling the Embassy, but no answer and mailbox is full.

    From Hotel:

I cannot find anything about this (Except the post on reddit I posted).  I'm not arriving until the 25th but want to get everything going for my COE approval.

If anyone has more info on this please let me know. This is really the last thing I need to take care of.

    Thanks

My arrival date is the 24th, I contacted my hotel for covid test invoice last Monday and paid by PayPal. It doesn't surprise me rules have changed since then but I'd be keen to sort out COE if I was you too, have you considered contacted another hotel and rebooking? Maybe a different hotel will still let you book test now.

If I remember correctly last year the either emailed me the barcode or it was available to print out from the application on the the website. That took a few days after I'd uploaded, presumably for them to check details of my submission. I'm at your stage where it says post your passport but although there is an application number there is no barcode yet.

I'll wait until Monday and give them a ring.

I just signed into visa website to see if I could take a screenshot for you but my status has changed to processing. I can't see barcode now. I remember it not being obvious where to find it, I was pressing a lot of random buttons and found it more by luck than anything else. You may be better off having another look in case you already have it.

On a side note visa website has a notification for me saying:

    Request Document 1

    Request Interview 0

Please check your email or contact

    the Embassy/Consulate for more information

    about the request.

I didn't get an email from the Embassy so I've just sent a message asking if they need anything. Looks like something may be missing.

Hi...can I ask how long did it take between submitting/uploading your visa application and getting your barcode. I've uploaded and it states post your passport and supporting documents.

I took a break after paying for application, no more than an hour. I never got an email (still haven't), I logged back into website looking for instructions on what to do next and found e-appointment and barcode then, it may have been instant, not sure.

Yes, absolutely absurd how convoluted every little thing is, as I've had the same issue applying for a TR and also uploaded a different document in order to submit and when i click on proceed to payment I then get a pop up screen with only one option to submit the application by post!

When I click next I get a screen informing me to submit hard copies (of everything I've painstakingly just submitted online) in the post!!!! And won't take payment!

Did you get the same situation? As it won't allow me to submit it other than through the post!!!!

I started with booking Phuket accommodation, then started the COE online but it wants Covid insurance doc uploaded to enable the COE to be submitted, so I figured I'd apply for the visa, then get the insurance, then the COE then book flights and RT-PCR tests etc.

But I'm yet again one step forwards and three back!

Please can somebody advise as the entire sandbox process consumes my days and it is quite literally now beyond stressful!

    Hmm,

When I logged back into website to get barcode it only asked for Passport to be sent in the post and a print out of e-appointment barcode. That's all I send so hopefully that'll do the job. It arrived at the embassy in London yesterday. I'll update when I hear anything. Fingers crossed.
