Thailand Pass or Certificate of Entry: Clearing confusion for travelers
Joules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
How to get Thailand Pass To get a Thailand Pass, visit http://tp.consular.go.th and follow the instructions provided. Beware of phishing websites like www.thailandpass.org. It looks credible but is in no way connected to the government. Cyber-thieves are reportedly using these websites to steal information from Thailand Pass applicants. Ha, I laughed when I read that! What the Cyber-thieves are trying to do, the Thai government and its cronies have been doing to everybody since the pandemic started. They have treated it as some kind of cash cow. Crony supplied vaccinations only, exorbitant hotel prices for quarantine, huge insurance polices required, insane charges for required testing, the list goes on and on. -
Thailand Pass or Certificate of Entry: Clearing confusion for travelers

Personally, I'll wait until the Thailand pass fades into history along with ALL testing requirements. Until that time, I won't be entering, period. -
Nightmare scenarios continue in wake of Thailand Pass launch

WHAT is the cost of this insurance? -
Judging from the content in the six pages of content here, This article seems to have done nothing to settle the confusion. I Always thought that with my O visa and marriage extension I could go out on a trip somewhere and come back without buying the insurance. Now it does not look that way. And at my age, a lot of insurers like Aetna just say no.
-
"There is currently no requirement for anyone on a Non Immigrant O extension to have health insurance - apart from if they wish to re-enter Thailand, which is a requirement for all foreigners, regardless of their visa status. " I would NEVER go anywhere as a tourist that required me to buy 3 million baht (more than $90,000US) in medical insurance as a condition of entering the country. As it is, I live here with an O visa and marriage extension. I supposed I am trapped. If I leave, they will nail me when I come back. No travel for me. And I seriously doubt I will get the foreign visitors I used to get pre-covid, with this insurance requirement. What healthy person is going to pay that for the privilege of a visit? Only the horney perverts. If the Thai government would simply open up the government medical system to bona fide tourists (at no charge), they would make money, not lose it. As it is, few people will want to come. Nobody is going to come here to rip off the <deleted>ty (how about "crappy"?) government healthcare. And let's be clear, what this is really about is the greed of the influential insurance cartel in this country. It's just another attempted money-grab. Not a friendly country anymore. By the way, why doesn't somebody publish a schedule listing the approximate cost of this insurance per week (or month or year) for each age group? I NEVER see that.

Thammasat abandons plan to get 1.5m doses of donated vaccine from Poland

The explanation for this is quite simple: Moderna is barred by the US Corrupt Foreign Practices Act from offering the grease needed to smooth the way. -
Welcome to Thailand! 15,000 arrivals from 26 countries this week, say CAAT

Ha, ha, ha. Meanwhile, another post says there is not one single international hotel booking in Chiangmai. Not one! Not one! -
Thailand ranked among the top 6 places in the world to retire
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Reminds me of going for an early morning run in Philadelphia, PA, USA, a few years ago. I was wearing a sleeveless tank top, short, short running shorts and running sandals. I was listening to music from a little Walkman device. It was a beautiful morning, about 7 a.m. All of a sudden I became aware of some violent sounding shouting. I pulled out one earbud and saw this cop all decked out in SWAT gear up ahead screaming at ME. I yelled "Huh?" He screamed, "Cross the road! Cross the road, NOW." I yelled, "Why?" He screamed "I'm a federal agent, YOU! Cross the road now! NOW!" So I crossed the road and stopped. I yelled over, "What the hell is this all about?" It turns out that I was passing by the famous US icon known as The Liberty Bell, and was not allowed on the same side of the street lest I be a terrorist with a bomb trying to blow it and, apparently, myself up. Of course, if you go back to my second sentence, above, you would know a bomb was impossible. So now I live in Thailand under a military junta. I am not happy about that, but if I am honest, I will have to admit that, except for freedom of expression, I have a lot more freedom here than I'd have in any of the western democracies. I can even burn trash here! -

Which makes me wonder how Canada got into the no. 2 spot! Beautiful place, but it certainly isn't warm in winter! -
I would not even THINK about visiting a country that had such an insanely expensive insurance requirement! Even the folks who want to visit might think twice when they find out how much they will have to pay up front over and above the plane ticket. Might not be too bad for someone 25 years old, but the price goes up with age. Oh, and by the way, my phone doesn't qualify for entrance. I do not own a smart phone. I suppose they'd turn me around for home at Suvarnabhumi. Well, I am already in and have been for 15 years. How things have changed!

Why don't they ever publish a pro forma premium schedule for the major companies and age groups. I can't ever seem to get a price without filling out a lengthy form asking for all kinds of private information. I get it that I must do that to buy -- but I only want to shop. How much does this insurance cost? And at what point is the "non-immigrant" simply to old to qualify for any insurance? I went through the process once with Aetna, and before I was finished, I got a pop-up that said I was too old to qualify.

Thailand's healthcare system ranked among best in the world
Joules replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
I could not have said it better. Our local hospital would not even measure up to the average veterinarian office in the US. Cattle get much better treatment than Thai villagers could ever hope for. Cancer treatment were I live is paracetamol. And mammograms or colonoscopies? Are you kidding? Hey, it is certainly better than nothing and nobody has to worry about bankruptcy if they need healthcare as they would in the US. The Thais have Thaksin Shinawatra to thank for that. But to say it is better than Norway and New Zealand? Come on, man! The Earth ain't flat. -
They make it sound like only "foreigners" are committing these crimes. Criminals should be tracked down, tried and punished without regard to whether they are "foreigners" or Thais. I think it is perfectly safe to equate "foreigners" with "people of European descent. I seriously doubt that Chinese nationals get labeled as "foreigners." This whole business only leads to a greater feeling of insecurity for those of us of European descent that live here legally. Sure, the apologists will come out and say, "If you are doing nothing wrong, what do you have to fear?" Ask the black folks that are "profiled" in the US how they feel about it. Frankly, I don't like being singled out for extra scrutiny because of my race. This is no longer a good destination for anybody of European descent. Not for tourism, retirement or anything else. Things were different here when I went "all in." If I had it to do again, I would not choose this place! Okay, all you apologists, I have a target on my back. Take your best shot.

Thailand to introduce 500 baht tourist entry fee from Jan 1st
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Ha, ha, ha! They make it even harder for tourists to help the tourism operators. Too funny! Anybody that really investigates the best places for tourism or retirement would never choose this place. 20 years ago, certainly, 15 years ago, probably, 10 years ago, okay, 5 years ago, in the toilet. Oh, the sex tourists will still come, but no families. What a joke. Edit: Years ago, I had a lot of people come to visit me here. I encouraged it. Now I tell friends and family, "Don't come here. It ain't what it used to be. there are much better places to spend your vacations." I have not had anybody come since the last coup when it really started downhill for expats. -
Udon police arrest Swiss expat who killed armed intruder at his home
Joules replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Big mistake, calling the police. If I killed somebody in my house, he'd be dumped off in a lonely rice field. Just another unsolved homicide. -
Posted just now Can you better explain, and defend, your claim that "the Biden Administration wants to put the spotlight on every American bank account worth $600 or more."? Apparently, after the citizen outcry, the plan is being revised. I am posting a link to Yahoo news, I hope that is legal. If not, you can Goggle it.
