  1. Does this type of action set a scary precedent for forums such as this where people believe they have the freedom to voice their own opinion but in reality they don't under these ridiculously harsh defamation laws.  A number of comments in this thread could be legally challenged under the same type of principal/law.... it is a bit worrying, I have to say.

  2. Hi All. I'm currently on an Ed visa (expires Dec 1st) and I'm going back to the UK this Monday for around 6 wks. I've already obtained a re-entry permit but now I'm thinking that when I come back I'll just come back on a Tourist Visa, as my next trip back here will only be for around 3 months and involve no further studying. Will the unused re-entry permit and non-expired Non Imm Ed visa be a problem or will the Tourist visa just take precedence? Thanks!

  3. Just to let you all know TP motors did a great job. I opted for the metallic white paint and the cost was 4K. I'm going to let them have the other panels and tank to do soon and they've told me it will cost around 6K to do the remaining work.

  4. I have used for my pickup, and previous pickup, and always recommend, TP Motors, which is on Sukhumvit, just opposite the Cholchan Hotel. At the Traffic lights heading out, do a u-turn and the paintshop is 10-20 yards back from the jnunction.

OK, a bike is smaller than a car, but they have all the correct gear, including a paint kiln. Just ask for a quote.

They charged me 2500 Baht to make good my front valance which was hit by a motorcycle. Tidied up the scrapes and scars from the previous owner at the same time.

Thanks Graham. Will visit today and report back. Cheers, Simon

  5. UMMM. Changed ya mind about the size then. Good for you Simon. Be CAREFUL mate.

    Allan

ps Still got ya Ninjette. My offer still stands if ya fancy selling.

    Hi Al,

Yeh, she's a bit of a beast - just taking it very easy with her at the mo. Got a great deal on her - everything is sound except the lower fairings had some stickers on which covered some minor exhaust burns and scuffs. Will look nice and tidy once the the lower fairings have been repainted.

BTW, I've dropped the price on ninjette as you'll see from the classifieds section. I forget what you offered me to tell you the truth - PM me with it, if it's a sensible offer ;-)

    Cheers, Si

  6. FYI, there are no red plates for motorcycles in Bangkok.

You are allowed to ride without a plate as long as you carry proof of registration and insurance. There is a time limit to this exemption and I am not sure how long it is. I think the all wise Neverdie said 28 days and he is never wrong. :D

But why is it theres no red plates in Bangkok ?? Red plates exist, so is it the dealers cant be bothered, the dealers wont pay to get them, the dealers are rationed them (there is a rationing, heard that from a dealer down here).. But ultimately it IS the dealers job.

As to riding without a plate being legal.. I doubt it personally.. Tolerated maybe, which in Thailand means much the same thing, but legal ?? No I dont reckon so.. I know down here you dont get any chance on the road without a plate.. They pull you in and your going to have a LOT of problems (depending on mood as ever) and all new bikes come with a dealer red plate on day 1. You just cant ride without one, which makes no sense if they are 'legal' for 28 days.

    LivinLos,

Sorry old mate, but you are completely INCORRECT. If you take yourself down to a MOTORCYCLE dealer and pay for a NEW motorcycle 100% payment in cash....You will NOT get a red plate. Your first plate issued will be the normal type one.

If you were familiar with laws you would understand that when legislators write laws they also include 'exemptions' to these laws. So you will see by my previous post that there is or should I say 'was' (2 years ago) an exemption for motorcycles purchased as I previously described that allowed them to be used in daylight hours without the plate for the first 28 days. I was told to make sure I carried all my paperwork to prove I fell into that cateogry.

All the bikes you see running around with red plates from new are financed jobbies, they are everywhere, didnt you know that you can buy a new scooter from 399 down & financed for 200 years :D .

I usually don't just make things up as I go along for the hel_l of it & let me tell you for the few weeks I rode without a plate, I was pulled up heaps of times, I actually use to carry a copy of the paperwork in my top pocket, I was NEVER written up for it & I can recall on several occassions that this happened, the BIB were real hungry :)

I paid for my Ninja in cash and they gave me a red plate to put until the proppa white one turned up about 8 weeks later. Guess it varies from place to place?

  7. Anyone know of a descent shop in Pattaya where I can get my fairings resprayed?

I only need the lower fairings (left & right) done. Any idea how much I should be looking to pay for getting them done. I want them white with three layers of clearcoat.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Cheers for the reply Al/thaicbr :-) The contract actually has less than 6 months remaining on it but I can easily get a new contract drawn up as the person whom we rent the house off is a close friend. Would it help if I were to make the contract 24 months and show a hefty deposit on there? Also, would you recommend having the contract in Thai or English?

The company I referred to in previous post has never traded, so I won't bother mentioning that.

  9. Excellent...sounds like I'm on the right track at least. I know the missus does have some land in Chantaburi, so will make sure we submit copies of the paperwork for that.

One thing: I say I have 6 months bank statements for my UK account - I do but they are online banking print offs. Are they acceptable or should I order proper ones from the bank?

    Thanks guys!

  10. As you have been living together for 4 years this will be treated as if she were your spouse.

As well as the above, you should also supply evidence of your status in Thailand and your employment, if any, and if she is working then evidence of this too.

Plus anything else on Spouse/Partner of British Citizen (Based in Thailand) going to the UK for a visit (family visit) – Check List

    Thanks for the responses.

I have an income from a business in the UK which I have deposited/transferred to my Thai bank. I am here on a non-imm O visa. My girlfriend is not employed.

Based on this and info in my previous post, and I know you aren't issuing the visa's here, but would you say my chances of a)getting a visa issued at all ....and b)getting one it in time for August.... are strong?

    Thanks again!

  11. Hi All.

I've been living in Thailand for nearly 7 years. The last 4 of which I have spent living with my current girlfriend.

I would like to take her back for a 2 holiday in August and I just wanted to see if I have enough in my visa application portfolio.

Here's what I have so far:

    1. GF's Kasikorn bank statements for past 6 months showing regular money going into her account from my Thai Kasikorn bank.

    2. My UK bank statements for the past 6 months showing regular money being deposited and also 6 months of Thai bank statements. Statements show that I have enough money to fund the trip for us both.

    3. A letter from my mother stating that she will be providing board and accommodation whilst we stay in the UK. In the letter she also references her trip to Thailand in 2005 when she met my GF. She's also included photos with the letter and a copy of her passport.

    4. A letter from my previous landlord, written last year, confirming that they'd known us as boyfriend-girfriend for a period of 2.5 years.

    5. Copy of rental contract for the house we currently live in which is in both our names.

    6. Copy of green book for motorbike and finance papers for car. Finance papers for the car are in my GF's name and the motorbike is mine but I thought it was worth including as it shows that the owners (my GF and I) both live in the same address.

    7. Copy of my and GF's passport showing matching stamps in and out of Cambodia during times when she accompanied me on visa runs.

    That's it.

My only concern is that I have next to no photos of the two of us together, other than ones my Mum has supplied. Crazy I know, given that we've been together for 4 years but the truth is I hate having my photo taken.

Do you think my application is lacking in any areas or do you think it should be fairly straightforward to sort out.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Simon

  12. I'm chuffed to bits with the new Pirelli's. The ride is so much smoother and I'm sure that with the increased grip they're gonna shave a good few seconds off of our BIRA lap times.

Talking of lap times, I was looking at the starline GPS lap timers and then found a much cheaper alterntive (free in fact) - http://www.racechrono.com. You'll need a Nokia S60 phone with built-in GPS or if you've not got GPS built-in you can use with bluetooth external GPS. I'm gonna give it a go on Sunday and will let you guys know how it performs.

Also, YSS have released an adjustable rear shock for the little Ninja http://th.yss.co.th/index.php?option=com_c...0&Itemid=54. Can't find anywhere in Pattaya that stocks it or that can order it for me. They also have a PD Fork valve for the ninjette - goodness knows what this is?

I would love to get a rear hugger. Apparently you can find them in BK but i've not seen anything locally in Pattaya. Anyone know of a place in BK that sells them? I might be making a trip up there soon so could pop in and pick it up.

BTW, one of the concerns with Pirelli 150/60 rear tire was that it might not fit but it fitted with ease with at least 10mm clearance from the chain guard. Also i have found them to be just as nimble as the stock tire. As Bard points out they really do smooth out the ride with the softer compound and amazingly they weight about 3/4 of the weight of the stock 130/70 IRC tire.

    Cheers, Simon

  13. Big thanks to Bard who installed my area p full carbon system (shorty not quiet core). Top bloke!

The shorty is very, very loud, which Bard will attest to.

I kinda wish I got the quiet core. I think my neighbours do as well.

Other than the noise, which is the most notable difference, the torque has also been greatly improved. I can easily pass cars on the highway from 100-120 KMH staying in 6th gear, which before would have required me shifting down to 5th.

The machining place that transplanted the bung for my lambda sensor were extremely professional and who'd believe that it only cost 200BHT. I guess it was a little more expensive if you factor in the grown-up fun that we had in the secret soi that we hung out in whilst they carried out the job ;-)

Defo want to get rid of these stock tyres and into some Bridgestone BT90's. Had a couple of scarey moments with the stock tyres both on the road and track.

I love the little ninja but cruising on highways and doing any type of long distance is a bit of a bore lake, personally speaking. I really feel that I'm flogging the little thing to death doing 140KMH and if you get a gust of wind you do get blown around (not the stablest of bikes). Ok, my 92 kilo chassis (me not the bike) doesn't help but I'm inclined to do the same as Bard - keep the ninja for the track (where it really comes into it's own) and then possibly look at purchasing a larger bike such as the ER6 or FZ6 a little later on (finances & missus permitting).

    Cheers,

    Simon

  14. I am not saying that the rear view video is a replacement for mirrors - it's just another view. I find that there is little bit of a blind spot for me even when i glance at both the left and right mirrors and that blind spot is directly behind me.

For the forums mods here - instead of dedicating a thread per bike (which is basically what we have here), why not split each bike down into a sub-forum of it's own?

Any interest in a seperate forum such as I suggested above (ninjette.co.uk or babyninja.co.uk)?

    Cheers, Si

  15. Hi Chaps.

I fitted the Targa fender eliminator kit myself by following these detailed instructions: http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=121552

One less job for you there Bard ;-)

One thing worth noting is that I didn't find it necessary to cut & shorten the stock indicator cables nor did I fit the ABS plastic accents as they didn't fit (whether I received the wrong ones I don't know). Anyway, it looks great and I'm really happy. A vanity mod but it must have shaved a bit of weight off the bike.

Can't wait to catch up with Bard and the rest of the BIRA mob on the 4th. It will be my first track day so will be taking it real easy.

I'm thinking about changing my tires before doing BIRA. These stock tires are horrible. Will research this thread again in a mo but I think the consensus was that Bridgestone 140s were the best option.

I'm thinking about getting some eyes in the back of my head http://www.motionaleyes.com/home.html so I can spot these mad Vigo & Minius drivers that love flying up your arse at silly speeds.

This thread is getting awfully busy. I was thinking about starting a forum so we can structure these discussions a little better. I've just registered ninjette.co.uk & babyninja.co.uk. Why .co.uk I hear you ask, well it's because I'm a UK registrar and it was the easiest ccTLD for me to reg. Anyway, I have a VBulletin license and server to host this, so all I need are some knowledgable moderators. PM me if you're interested in helping. Also, out of the two domain names, which do you think is best?

    Cheers! Simon
